Official travel advisories for Ghana: 2 governments say do not travel, 4 say avoid non-essential travel, and 4 publish caution-level advice.

Ten governments have active warnings on Ghana. Germany and France have issued do-not-travel orders for specific northern zones; Canada, the UK, Switzerland, and Japan advise against non-essential travel to border areas; Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, and Japan flag the country-wide baseline as elevated caution. For a backpacker, Accra and the coast are a different risk category than the north — but neither is a clean pass.

The sharpest risk sits along the Burkina Faso border: Germany names Upper East, North East, and the specific towns of Bawku, Garu, Zebilla, Tempane, Nalerigu, and Walewale; France adds the Gbelé national park and all borders with Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, and Togo. The UK singles out Bawku Municipality with an "all but essential travel" rating. Canada sets a hard 25 km exclusion zone from the Burkina Faso border citing both inter-communal violence and terrorist activity. Italy adds two unusual warnings not duplicated elsewhere: landmines flagged for Ashanti Region and Western Region, and heightened robbery risk for Accra, Busua beach, and Kokrobite.
