Gecko Hostel

+ The location was good

- The rooms don’t have keys and are constantly open so anyone can walk in. There would be people constantly walking in and out of our room just to use the toilet which is very annoying as it should be used by the people staying in the room only and didn’t make me feel comfortable having someone walking in and out the room 24/7 as all my belongings are in the room too and when you’re trying to sleep it’s not great.

+ Les lits sont confortables, la propreté et la salle de bain

- Ambiance trop chill 🚬, la Clim dans la chambre va beaucoup trop fort. Nous n’avons pas bien dormi car nous avons eu froid et pas possibilité de la gerer car pas de télécommande ni de bouton

+ The hostel is really nice and clean.

- It’s definitely not a social place. During my stay, there were only men over 40 years old. In my room, I was staying with five men, and three of them were over 50. I don’t recommend staying there if you are a young woman.

+ Clean, nice food, comfortable bed, good aircon

- The non smoking common area (i asked management where smoking was not allowed) inside is not posted as non smoking. So i had to ask multiple people not to smoke there. Some were indignant. I left the hostel when they started smoking pot in the non smoking areas. If the hostel has a policy, management must follow the policy and ensure guests do the same. Not rely on other guests to police it or just ignore it because of business.

+ Das Hostel ist sehr süß und liegt zentral in Siem Reap. Das Personal ist freundlich, es gibt vielfältige Angebote und einen netten Aufenthaltsbereich.

- Die Bädersituation ist ziemlich mangelhaft, es gibt pro Etage nur ein Bad für 3 Dorms. Das ist natürlich völlig unzureichend. Bei den beiden existierenden Bädern kann man die Türen nicht offen halten, sodass es drinnen immer extrem warm und stickig ist. Im unteren Bad hat die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit dadurch schon zu einem riesigen Schimmelfleck an der Decke geführt… Die Matratzen sind ganz schön durchgelegen.

+ - very nice staff who are able to offer advice and help with anything - ridiculously good price when I booked (about $5 a night)

- - boring atmosphere. Seemed like a hub for expats and digital nomads (a lot of laptops out, not much socialising). Can’t fault the staff for this - bathroom not cleaned frequently enough and was filthy - need to have locks on the dorm doors for basic security

+ Amazing hostel!!! If you are looking for a chilled social place that is not a party hostel, then look no further. The rooms are nice and clean with AC, there are some common areas to chill, the staff is lovely (thanks Vince for all the help 🤗). They can organise transport, motorbike rental, tours, etc. As a bonus, it's locally owned.

- At times, the soap was empty in the toilets.

+ Everything was just wonderful. The location, the staff, the room. When I mentioned I was sick, they even gave me some bananas for a quicker recovery. Definitely would recommend this amazing hostel.

+ Das Hostel wird von Locals geführt die sich super Mühe geben, es ist noch nicht lange eröffnet, daher werden noch einige Sachen gebaut und angeschafft. Aber einfach ein kleines süßes Hostel mit Social Vibe falls man mag. Hab es sehr gemocht dort!

+ Dos meses viajando por el sudeste y este ha sido el mejor alojamiento de todos. Excelente en todos los sentidos. Instalaciones, comida, piscina, baños limpios, servicios, atención, agua gratis, mantas, toallas, lockers, etc . Todo excelente!

- Como sugerencia podrían cambiar los colchones duros, pero eso es típico en el sudeste asiático.

+ Thanks to the staff who was willing to help me in my sick condition. They cooked special chicken soup, as I requested, advised regarding the nearest pharmacy and helped me to check in 2 hours in advance. I was so exhausted after the flight and felt very sick, so it was huge assistance from the staff of this hostel to allow me to check in earlier

+ Ich war sehr glücklich mit meiner Entscheidung für dieses Hostel. Ich war kurz skeptisch wegen dem doch sehr niedrigen Preis aber es war wirklich super. Die Lage ist sehr zentral und das Personal hat mir schon im Vorfeld geholfen ein Flughafen Shuttle zu organisieren noch bevor ich in Siem Reap gelandet bin. Das war sehr hilfreich. Das sehr junge Personal ist super freundlich und kümmert sich mit viel Hingabe um sein Hostel. Restaurant direkt am Hostel von morgens bis abends geöffnet was ich gerade für das Frühstück super fand. Auf Sauberkeit wird viel Wert gelegt und bei Fragen hat man immer einen Ansprechpartner. Auch Tagestouren können bequem über das Personal gebucht werden. Die Sunrise Angkor Wat Tour ist zwar hart (Abholung um 4Uhr morgens.) aber lohnt sich.

- Wie schon in den Kommentaren zuvor beschriebenen ist die Badezimmer Situation etwas schwierig. (2 Duschen und 2 Toiletten) Allerdings scheint das Hostel noch recht neu zu sein. An der Situation wird aktuell fleißig gearbeitet und es werden bald neue Bäder dazu kommen. Also hat sich das bald auch erledigt.

+ Tout. Super accueil chaleureux ! Les parties communes et le dortoirs sont très propres. Le staff est vraiment super sympa, à l’écoute et et très disponible pour vous. On se sent en sécurité et bien entouré. J’ai fais une excursion avec l’auberge pour le temple d’Angkor à un prix raisonnable. Vous pouvez tester l’amok là-bas, c’est délicieux ! L’emplacement est parfait, proche de toutes les commodités. Je recommande fortement ! Merci pour l’accueil !
