Tomorrowland Hostel Ella

Die Unterkunft ist heruntergekommen, nur 2 schmutzige Toiletten/Duschen, unbequeme Matratzen, kaputte Decken. Nachts extrem kalt, kaum Schlaf wegen Lärm. Keine Schließfächer, kein WLAN, Shuttle oft verweigert, Angebote kaum umgesetzt. Lage weit außerhalb. Mitarbeiter verhalten sich seltsam, teils im Aufenthaltsraum schlafend. Wir fühlten uns alle aus dem Hostel besonders als Frau sehr unwohl, viele sind früher abgereist.

Sadly, the high rating and great photos set expectations far higher than this hostel delivers. Among guests, it became a running joke that this place was a “must-see” purely because of how utterly sh*t it is. It’s ridiculously far from Ella town. They claim to offer rides, but the owner gets angry when you actually try to arrange leaving the hostel. Bedroom doors and windows don’t close properly, there’s no pool as advertised, and overall the place feels poorly maintained and misleadin...

Worst hostel stay we’ve ever had. We enjoy social and party hostels, but this was extreme: a loud party downstairs until 1am made sleeping impossible—we basically slept above a nightclub. The room was freezing due to holes in walls, roof and doors. When we politely complained, the owner became aggressive, accused us falsely, told me to “shut up,” and refused to return money he owed us (change money). He only stopped when a male friend intervened. Unprofessional and hostile.

Twee nachten geboekt vanwege goede reviews, ondanks de afgelegen locatie. Bij aankomst hing er een vreemde sfeer: donker, harde muziek, en niemand aanwezig. De beloofde gezelligheid ontbrak. Na leugens over andere uitchecken van gasten en slechte reviews besloten we eerder te vertrekken. Ook probeerde de chauffeur onverwachts 1500 rps te vragen voor de gratis shuttle. Onze boeking werd achteraf geannuleerd, waardoor we geen review konden plaatsen.

Was literally two other people there, so we got way too much attention from the staff. They were overly invested in our plans, and couldn’t take a hint when we wanted to be left alone. One evening the owner also seemed mad that we hadn’t informed him when we would be back. It’s far from the city, and though they offer a free drop off/pick up service, it’s only 8am-6pm. We used it to be dropped off the last day, but because we asked to make a stop on the way, they tried to charge us 2000 ...

This is an odd place in the middle of nowhere. As there is nothing happening everyone goes into town for dinner & drinks. If you miss the group leaving you'll be alone here. Food is about 2500 for dads home cooking.. not good. There's no music, no atmosphere, no party, no pub crawl. Stay in town. Here is dead.

Friendly staff, but the stay wasn’t worth 12,800 LKR per night for a private room. The room was very small and we barely had hot water. They do advertise for hot water and other perks like free cooking classes (not even available) and free drop-offs (they hire a tuktuk and you still have to pay). The free organized trip was underwhelming, because after the waterfall they drop you in the city centre and expecting you to fix your own transport to the rest of the highlights in the era

I mean the hostel and the facilities themselves are really cool and it’s a nice vibe, but can’t recommend to stay there. As soon they got your money they don’t give a s*** about you. The owner made me feel the most uncomfortable and after a day you’ll see that he has a massive ego and it’s all about himself. When in Ella, stay at Tomorrowland Hostel. We ignored the negative reviews and chose it over staying in town—and it was the best decision. As four Londoners exploring Ella, we loved the free transport to waterfalls, Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak, tea gardens, and the train station. A huge bonus for budget travelers, since tuk-tuks are costly. The food was far above typical hostel standards, and they even arranged a luxury van ride to Sigiriya. Highly recommended.

I don’t often leave a review but the hospitality here warranted a 5 star. The staff were very helpful and were willing to help with any needs.

I’ve traveled for 9 months and have stayed in many hostels. This hostel has had the best hospitality and service of any place ive ever stayed at. Owner is a great conversationalist. The view is also wonderful

Great staff, very accommodating just slightly further out than expected

The place is nice, but is quite far from the center. Also that was a misunderstanding episode with the reception. As the place is far and was Friday night, I asked at the reception if it was easy to get a Tuk Tuk back to the hostel. The answer was very rude, asking me back if I didn’t hear the news about the war and the petroleum crises (what that was nothing to do with my question!). As a host, I felt so so disrespected . So I just left day after.

Nice chilled spot, is a little bit out of the way from the main town but the driver from the hostel will drop you off and pick you up from any location. They’ll take you where you want to go any time during the day. Hospitality is great and all the staff are lovely and the owner is a top bloke got some jokes.

Amazing It’s located on top of a mountain, about 15–20 minutes from the city—perfect if you want to relax and enjoy stunning views.The host is an incredible guy with great stories, definitely worth sitting and chatting with him. He’s very welcoming and helpful.They also offer free pick-up and drop-off to the city and train station, which is a big plus. One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at!! The sunrise view is spectacular. And the free tour took me everywhere I wanted to see in Ella!! Grateful for the lovely staff who made everyday exciting and comfortable :)

Tomorrowland was an absolute dream of a hostel! The owner is great, and his staff is just amazing! Definitely take the tour that they offer as well, as it was a ton of fun. This was the first hostel with my one friend where he said “So this is why you stay in hostels”!

Visually impressive Goa-inspired design and a well-thought-out concept, with reliable hot showers and a useful shuttle service. However, the remote location makes getting around inconvenient, and the atmosphere during our stay felt quiet and unsocial. Dorm conditions were disappointing: too few outlets, loud rain noise from the metal roof, and cold nights. Considering the high price, the value felt poor. Overall, our experience did not match the very positive reviews.

Such a lovely stay at Tomorrowland! The staff were just so kind and helpful- could not have asked for better service from them honestly:) Great food, comfy beds, and a really nice overall vibe. Felt really good to be just outside of the city as well with a stunning view- and easy to arrange getting to attractions!

A unique little place with a lot of soul. The owner is absolutely amazing and makes sure you’re taken care of no matter what.

Made the best friends, extended because of that! Because of the Location make sure to get a Number of a driver, we took the Bus which is also very easy, and the driver from the Hostel gave us some free rides as well. Sometimes you get recommendations for Trips from them so be aware that they only Take you to These locations and not wherever you want. Rooms can get quite cold at Night an warm in the Morning but u usually don’t stay there too long anyways.

Mixed review here, I had been highly recommended this hostel by another group who said it was there favourite hostel in Sri Lanka, I found it very quiet however and the location was awkward although they do offer free pick rides during the day in there van. Staff were very helpful. I think this hostel really depends who’s there and what the atmosphere is like.

I can highly recommend Tomorrowland Hostel! The staff were incredible helpful and very friendly. The hostel has a shuttle so you’re able to get dropped off and picked up in Ella. We were on one of their tours seeing waterfall, little Adam’s Peak and 9 arch bridge. Good way to meet people from the hostel!
