Misty Bay

+ It is a part of someone’s house, the owner lives there. We travelled we two children and although did not ended up staying if felt uncomfortable, or the owner made it feel like that. Not welcoming nor kind! Children were put off as he did not even acknowledge them…

- Absolutely greedy, inhospitable owner! We are a family of four, two adults and two young children. We have travelled throughout Ireland and have been overwhelmed with the hospitality, kindness and warmth of the Irish, until Misty Bay. As quadruple rooms are rare and we still prefer to share a room, we have stayed in triple rooms where the hotels or b&bs were happy to add an extra mattress for an additional fee. More than a dozen places happily accommodated us. We booked a last minute triple room on Booking.com at the Misty Inn and asked for an additional mattress. Did not think anything of it and drove there. The owner was hostile and the first thing he said before hello was that it was impossible to add an extra bed and most importantly the room was not refundable! I do not understand how a business does not have an extra mattress but I accept it. But what I do not accept is the treatment and the refusal to see it as a genuine mistake on our part and offer a refund! It was as if aliens were in charge of finances not the owner of the business. We arrived at the property within half an hour of making the reservation, 7.30-8pm approx, so no way we caused a loss of business! We chose to leave and lose the money, good riddance! But it left a bitter taste and I recoil from the bad energy and greed of the owner. If you read the negative reviews on Booking.com they all say the same thing! They are all followed by some belligerent explanation that only serves to reinforce the total lack of anything mildly hospitable on the part on this person who has no place in hospitality! Although this is not a review of the place it cannot be dissociated from the greedy, cold owner! I urge you to avoid! I am aware of thé my leaving a bitter review but this experience was in total contrast with our experience of Ireland and something good will come of it if it happens to nobody else or if the owner changes his attitude/ways. Thank you!

- The loud banging noises coming from the bathroom kept me awake. The walls between the apartments are very thin and I could hear the person the other side snoring.

+ No breakfast provided

- Advertised as self-catering there were minimal facilities (a fridge, kettle and microwave to be shared with all other residents) in a tiny kitchenette downstairs from our room. Not even possible to boil an egg! No freezer compartment in fridge for freeze blocks either. Room advertised as deluxe, but very little space, no kettle or toiletries, only a very tiny table with two upright chairs.

+ A warm welcome from the host, and a very nice room.

- Based on the very high price, the lack of breakfast was a surprise to me. It was stated in the booking but I had missed it. For the rate I paid I would never have expected there would be no breakfast. This accommodation is right on the Beara Way but I cannot recommend it to walkers when no breakfast is available. Very expensive for just one B of the B&B!

+ Location fantastica, il panorama è meraviglioso.

- Stanza molto piccola per 3 persone, assenza di macchinetta per il caffè, kit per caffè e tea e kit per la doccia (probabilmente ciò che abbiamo trovato era degli ospiti precedenti). Rapporto qualità-prezzo non corrispondente.

+ Nice quiet location. Host was nice… didn’t see him much. Self check in and out. He kept to himself.

- Thought I was getting a garden view but it was the parking area out main window and shed and construction out the other. Just not what I expected.

+ The bed was comfortable and the house was spotless. The grounds are attractive and there parking is free. The room is not far from town, but we did not think is was walkable because most of the walking is though woods without sidewalks.

- This is not a B&B. The room was very small and there was no place to sit except on the bed. Phil was pleasant, but it was clear that we were expected to stay in our room except to make a cup of tea or coffee in the kitchenette. Because there was dish washing detergent and towels in the kitchenette, we assumed "guests" in the house were supposed to wash their cups. A sign on the washer/dryer advised guests that the machines were not for their use.

+ Beautifully done with attention to detail. Very clean. Incredible views from both the rooms and the patio. Good sized rooms. Safe. Definitely worth repeated visits. The pictures don't do it justice - even better in person. Nice common area. Full, shared kitchen available.

- A bit hard to find (but that added to the privacy), and lack of breakfast.

+ Dank der etwas abgelegenen Lage mit dem wunderschönem Garten hatten wir einen sehr entspannten und ruhigen Aufenthalt. Die Besitzer bieten kein Frühstück an aber es hätte eine kleine Kochnische wo man sich einen Kaffee/Tee machen könnte.

+ We liked everything. Room was stylishly decorated,. Everything was clean & comfortable. Generous amenities. The host was friendly.

- Nothing

- Die Küche hatte keine Sitzgelegenheit, Auf den Fotos hatte das anders gewirkt, aber das waren wahrscheinlich Aufnahmen von einem Apartment.

+ This is a home stay so meals are not provided. But we stayed in one of their two stand alone apartments which had a kitchenette. The setting and view were extraordinary. Set above the hills of Kenmare, about a 5 minute drive into town. Immaculate landscaping with outdoor seating. Deer nearby. Absolute peace and quiet.

- Two very minor suggestions: tea towels for drying dishes and face cloths in the bathroom. Otherwise, perfection.

+ Nice view of Kenmare Bay from window. Location very quiet and away from the center of town.

- Upstairs room, floor creaky when moving around. Water in sink made a gurgling type noise when it drained.
