Wanaka Bakpaka

This is such a lovely hostel. It’s quite small which means it’s super homely and very clean and tidy! They let us check a few hours early which was fab. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm which had an en-suite. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was large and very clean, with plenty of space to store your food. It is a 10 minute walk to the town centre and has a beautiful view overlooking the lake. There is also plenty of space for car parking. It was honestly great.

Construction outside my window two inches from my head starting at 6am. Building sounds are one thing but the music the workers were playing was louder than anything as well. If you are looking for a social hostel, this is NOT it, everyone seems to be a long term stayer and no one went out of their way to chat, you were lucky to get a hello. The staff seemed annoyed having to help anyone and the kitchen wasn’t the best. Pretty view from the patio but a huge hill to get up there and a good walk...

the kitchen is WAY to small for so many people and there aren't enough seating opportunities

Nice Hostel. Location is great with a good view of the lake. Room was basic, but all facilities were clean, staff was nice and all in all a good value for money

Such a lovely view from the hostel!!! The lounge and dining area has the most stunning view from all the windows. Everything is very spacious in the hangout areas. However, when I arrived there late the instructions that were set out were very unclear and made it almost impossible to find my room. The rooms are in cabins that are behind the hostel kitchen.. and it is so hard to find room numbers considering it is so dark and most are unlabeled. There were spiders in my room and in the sink, and...

Loved this hostel, the view from the communal area was amazing!! Free parking and laundry facilities was perfect. 5-10 min walk from town which meant it was quiet but still super close. Would love to stay again

Amazing hostel. Very cozy, perfect for socializing, and the owners are very kind. They also don't charge for laundry if you have your own soap. Truely an amazing and pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

By far one of the best hostels I have stayed in during my 7 months of travelling. It feels very cozy and homey with a breathtaking view, quite social and very friendly staff/ family! Would have loved to have the time to stay longer!

The perfect hostel

Great location - right across the street from the lake. Far enough from the town center to be quiet, but a short walk to it. A clean and spacious kitchen with all you need. A large common area, and friendly vibes. Quiet, but social. Would stay again!

Very lovely and cute hostel! Amazing view over the lake from the cosy dining area and lounge. Very clean and organised kitchen with every essentials. The hosts were very friendly and thoughtful. The atmosphere was amazing! Would definitely come again and recommend to others!

One of my favourite hostels in nz!! It’s a short 5 minute walk from town. Very quiet and had the best view of roy’s peak through the front window common area. The kitchen had everything you need including spices and oil!! The owners are very nice as well! I highly recommend this hostel if you’re looking for a relaxing place to stay!

Amazing all around! Such a nice vibe, everyone was super nice but not as Ian who was kind from checking me in to checking out. I was actually sad when leaving after only booking for one night! Fully recommend this is the best place to stay in Wanaka. Great location; right by the beach, the Iron Hike (amazing) and close to the town. Thanks Ian!

Liz and Ian were friendly hosts :) wanakabakpaka is in a great spot: overlooking the lake, and a short walk from the town center. It had all the facilities I needed for a comfortable stay.
