Favela Hostel

+ Fui super bem recebido pelo próprio dono. O hostel é novinho. Seguro. Os quartos tem ar-condicionado. Muitos banheiros. A cozinha fica no terraço e a vista é incrível. Ainda tem uma laje com uma vista 360 da Rocinha. Fantástico!

- O único ponto negativo foi o desconforto da cama.

+ Ursprünglich wollte ich 1-2 Nächte dort verbringen. Am Ende waren es 5. Wirklich sehr cooles Hostel!

+ Localização excelente na entrada da rocinha com fácil acesso a praia e metrô. Quarto bom com ar condicionado 24h, internet muito boa (trabalhei de lá e fiz várias reuniões) e rooftop com vista top e pré baile em alguns dias

- Fechaduras dos banheiros.

+ Hospedagem perfeita, próximo a via Apia não precisa de pega moto táxi pra subir com mala nem nada muito fácil de localizar além de ter uma laje com vista linda.. os quartos super organizados e cômodos mesmo dividindo com outras pessoas.. tem ar condicionado, freegobar, microondas, banheiro e dentro do quarto o que é ótimo .. os donos tbm só muito legais e compreensivos .. com crtz é minha nova hospedagem favorita do Rio.

+ O hostel é muito bem localizado, o que facilitou bastante durante a estadia. Tudo estava limpo e organizado, e o ambiente é agradável. O dono e os funcionários do local são muito atenciosos e oferecem todo o suporte necessário, sempre dispostos a ajudar. Foi uma ótima experiência recomendo!

+ I had a great stay at the favela hostel. The place is clean, safe, and has a really friendly atmosphere. The manager Carlos speak English fluently and he’s incredibly attentive and always ready to help, he gives great advice and recommendations for activities around Rio, which made my trip even better. I definitely recommend without hesitation. On top of that, they organize rooftop parties, which are a perfect way to meet people and enjoy amazing vibes with a great view. An unforgettable experience! Valeu Carlos ! 🤙

+ I liked that it had an amazing rooftop with good views and the beds have curtains and also how it’s right above an amazing restaurant

- Depending on the night it could be loud because of music playing in the street but you can get used to it

+ The location is away from the touristy areas of Rio so you can get a different feel of the city. Carlos is super accommodating and makes you feel welcome and safe! Walking distance to beach and great street food, Wednesday Street market right outside, 10 minute walk to the beach, clean showers and toilets, and cold AC in the room. The view is also amazing!

+ You’ve no idea how cool the people are and the place is! Carlos is a heck of a human being! The hostel is new , clean and tidy, there are restaurants nearby, the metro is just 5 minutes walk as well! More important than anything Carlos feels more like a friend than a property owner! Several times he walked with me to get me what I needed, every time I asked for help, he was literally one message away! One of the best human beings I know! I told I wanted to buy a Brazil jersey , he walked with me but the price was two expensive! He literally got back to me with the jersey and gifted it to me! Can’t think of people like him!

+ This is a new hostel (early 2026), the first hostel in Rocinha, the biggest favela in Latin America. The place is clean, modern, as AC, a rooftop, nearby great food (sushis, burger, brazilian), and the staff is kind, helpful, proud of their area, and can help you to understand and navigate the favela safely. Having a hostel in such a location is an incredible opportunity to live a very special and unique kind of experience. Forget your assumptions and open up to the experience. The favela is ran by narcotraffic, and yes you will see people with weapons ensuring the security of their territory, but it doesn t mean it s dangerous as long as you stay respectful. The area is not controlled by the state, so they have their own forces to ensure order and control, and it actually works better than in the rest of Rio. This is a safer and more free place than Copacabana, Botafogo or Ipanema. Give these people an opportunity to show their version of the story, far from the poverty romanticizing critics and the outdated poor and violent narratives associated with favelas. You will then see an incredible community that deserve a new and nuanced image. If you are ready for the experience, staying there is also a great opportunity to experience the Baile Funk Parties happening over the weekend. But be ready for something intense, not for everybody.
