The volunteers were amazing: caring, friendly, and truly dedicated to the hostel and the dogs. The host seemed less involved. Sadly, there was no family dinner anymore because the cook had left. The private room (€20+) felt overpriced: very basic, creaky bed, stained blankets, no hot water, no Wi-Fi, and no beer available. The people there were fun, but the hostel and dogs felt somewhat neglected despite the volunteers doing their absolute best.
Avoid this place!Disgusting hygiene; bathrooms were never cleaned. AC is off from 9am-7pm, making it unbearable. Major animal welfare concerns: the mother dog is emaciated and puppies are taken away too early. The owner is weird and reportedly used shrooms on shift. Even for 9€, it’s overpriced and poorly managed. The only pros were the nice volunteers and basic free dinner. Save your money!
Way too overprized! I would pay 6€/night. Not clean (kitchen, fridges, toilets…) Beds are uncomfortable and got my neck really stiff. Only good thing were the dogs!
PLEASE DONT BOOK THIS HOSTEL! It was very dirty, very Young people, the owners havent been friendly, the electricity was crashing all the time, no wifi……. Felt Like sleeping at a prison
Var ikke aircondition på rommet og veldig mye fluer
There was no air conditioning in the room and very much fluorescent.
The staff and there freinds ware partying untill 4 a.m. at least. I asked to turn the music down multiple times and they were not cooperating. You cannot lock your room from the inside, only from the outside, this made me feel scared as a solo female traveler. I would not reccomend this place.
Friendly staff, but chaotic (trouble with our booking, had to be reminded of putting on clean sheets, giving AC at night...). In many ways, hostel seemed half-finished. The bathroom was nasty.
The hostel has a cool atmosphere. There is a free family dinner every evening, which allows you to easily get in touch with other guests. However, the bathrooms and toilets have mostly been very dirty and one evening the electricity has been constantly out. Therefore, in the night there was no AC and mobile etc. charging was also not possible... Although the vibe was very cool I would not stay there again, as the price-performance ratio has not been agreed (17€ per night).
Decent hostel at a decent location with very basic rooms. The staff is nice and the family dinner is a great touch too. However, the wifi didn’t reach the dorm room and there are no curtains either on dorm beds or the room window (but the room with the lights turned off was pretty dark so no big deal). Only constructive advise I would give is to keep the AC running during the peak heat hours of the afternoon when someone is coming from a long, tiring trip and is hot and uncomfortable from the...
Decent stay at Chilli Croc. Bathrooms could be cleaner but has the basics you need. Book the AC room if you do, it's way too hot to go in a Non AC dorm. Hostel was pretty quiet on our stay so tough to have a real social vibe but the host is a good guy and helps sort tickets for events. Family dinner's are good too

Soo you will have a great stay here! The owner is very friendly and gives great energy. The people that came here were amazing and made a great friend group. There is a very nice terrace where everyone can just hang out and chill. Really recommend if you are in the area. Also the food was really nice, I still dream about a sweet potato curry they made. Bonus they also had puppies this period😍

Wow what an experience! Extended about 3 times😂 Robert is such an amazing host made us really feel at home. Pretty social too activities in every day. Location is perfect
Fave hostel I’ve stayed in in Sri Lanka, such a cute family feel and Robert is so amazing. Felt so welcome here and ended up extending for a few nights. Facilities are simple but comfy and family dinner is delicious. Highly recommend. Little cat and the dogs are also so cute and cuddly
lovely Dogs and monkeys, free dinner. Only the dorm beds could be more comfortable
We had an amazing time at this Hostel :) Very social!
Nice Hostel if you are looking for a call place. The dinner is simple but delicious. I booked the room with AC and they told me that it’s going to be turned on by 7pm, but it didn’t. In the first night it was ok but second night it was really hot and I couldn’t reach anyone from the hostel when I called them.
I liked this hostel, nice and chill with friendly staff and friendly, if slightly reserved, guests. I wouldn’t go here if you’re looking for the party scene
really enjoyed my time there
Echt een leuke plek om in Hiri te verblijven. Gratis avondeten was ook heel gezellig!
It was a really nice place to stay in Hiri. free dinner was also very nice!
There was a mix up with bookings meaning that we could not move into our rooms until the late evening despite arriving at midday. We felt supported by the team working there and volunteers but not 100% by the management. Unfortunate experience because the rooms, dinner and facilities were decent and there is a good social vibe.
Quite a basic hostel, bathrooms could do with a better clean. Wasnt really any social events whilst i was there either, but the free dinner was great. Good location too. Rooms also felt a bit rundown. I think it depends a lot on the crowd there at the time. Dogs were lovely though!
really nice community-style hostel dinners are a great way to meet people! the volunteers and staff put a lot of effort into activities each night which you can opt in/out of. Shout out to the lovely staff too, so much fun and so kind! the location is good too, a bit out of the main town but an easy walk. Lockers are massive so plenty of space for valuables and more. few bits of feedback would be bathrooms have a LOT of mosquitoes - could maybe do with some coils - and WiFi is pretty bad
Pretty basic hostel that has a nice atmosphere because of the free family dinner every night. The AC worked well.
This hostel is so welcoming I felt instantly at home here! It’s very sociable and seems to attract the loveliest backpackers. The staff are so friendly and the facilities are great!
was less social than expected, the room was nice, I recommend the AC room! It was sad that the evening activities nearly always costed :( The bathroom was not very clean, it would have been cool if there would have been a shelf. The dinner was very good, but always kind of the same.
