I had a really disappointing experience here. One morning a staff member woke me up at 6:00 AM. He didn’t apologise or show any concern at all about the disturbance, and didn’t even ask if I was okay. It felt very dismissive and unprofessional. The following morning, as I was checking out, the staff member with glasses told me the other guy had been apologetic about the situation and that he owed me a drink because of what happened. Sehr schön am See gelegen. Rückzugsmöglichkeit im sehr teuren Privatzimmer nicht vorhanden, da die Bar anschliesst. Sehr laut, viel los. Wenn man nicht schlafen will und Party machen, dann passt das. Bin keine Nacht geblieben da das Geschrei und Getöse unerträglich war.
Very nice location at sea. There is no retreat in the very expensive private room, as the bar is closed. Very loud, very loose. If you don't want to sleep and party, then that's fine. I didn't stay a night because the screaming and getting up was unbearable.
Incredible loud, they make their local party on Wednesday ( many people from outside) in a hostel, where people pay for their bed. I did not expect huge loudspeakers in front of the dormitory, no sleep until 3 am….in my opinion an impertinence to charge money from people for a bed you can’t use, also very expensive, I expected free kayaks or bicycles , even no free coffee. I think, the Laguna is possible to visit without yak lake House
i wanted to love this hostel, but the rooms are to such a bad standard I had to check out early. Mould in the rooms/bathrooms, rooms that didn’t lock, loud music from 8am-12pm, very uncomfortable mattresses. The lake access is great and the hostel runs lots of tours and activities. But you don’t need to stay here to be able to take advantage of these. I strongly advise against staying here if you want cleanliness, comfort or a place to relax.
For me the highest and first priority is sleep. This hostel wants to provide beds and a nightclub. For me that mix didn't work. The music was louder than you could possibly sleep through on the night of the "party" that went till 2 am. Nothing wrong with a party, noise and going late, but not when it so completely penetrates that entire building and disallows the possibility of sleep. To be fair to those making reservations a warning email with a chance to cancel is called for.
ATTENTION WARNING!!!! DO NOT EAT IN THE HOSTEL RESTAURANT THE FOOD HAS SMALL STONES!!, IT BROKE MY TOOTH I TOLD THE WAITRESS THE FRONT DESK STAFF AND ALL OF.THEM DIDNT CARE OR EVEN APOLOGIZE !!!
Die Lage vom Hostel ist super. Die Einrichtung der Zimmer eher Basic ABER Achtung bei den Touren nach Belize vom Hostel. . Ich hab extra nachgefragt, ob ich die Exit Fee bezahlen oder Bargeld mitnehmen muss. Beides wurde mehrmals verneint. Dass die Tour über Belize City und nicht Chetumal ist wurde auch nicht erwähnt. Letztendlich wurden wir dort extrem unfreundlich behandelt und durften 1000 Peso extra. Es wäre schön, wenn dem Hostel bei Touren vertrauen könnte.
The location of the hostel is great. The furnishing of the rooms is rather basic but respectful of the Tours to Belize from the hostel. . I have asked extra if I have to pay the Exit Fee or take cash. Both have been denied several times. Dass die Tour über Belize City and nicht Chetumal is was also not mentioned. In the end we were treated there extremely unfriendly and dared 1000 extra pesos. It would be nice if the hostel could trust the Tours.
Bug warning ⚠️ ‼️⛔️booked 2 nights. After the first night was badly bitten by something throughout the night and just left the place. Posting here to warn other travelers, and mainly to get the Hostel to do something about it. When I told them about this the response was : bacalar has a lot of humidity that’s how it is here. I spent a week here before this hotel with zero problems, and have been traveling in tropical climates for the past 2 years and have never had this problem.
So I never normally leave reviews but just be careful with your belongings. Not only did I have my speaker stolen BUT My friend also woke up to someone at the end of her bed beside her belongings. The person then ran out the room She then went to the front desk freaking out to let them know. (1AM ish) Reception guy said he was ‘returning’ her key she borrowed to her room mate earlier in the day. At 1AM… Also when I arrived I heard about two wallets going missing… Sad but true gl x
Left my bag in the luggage room and someone stole my headphones and AirPods, they were obviously looking for cash too because the whole bag was turned inside out with all my stuff everywhere. Then the hostel staff checked the cameras and said there was nothing on there and that I probably misplaced it haha. So was almost certainly staff and they’re covering for them. Go to Wednesday party here it’s really fun, but don’t stay unless you want your stuff stolen

Aan de dure kant voor wat je krijgt. Dorms vaak niet op slot en vooral de 8bed dorm ingang ligt direct aan de straat. Veel te weinig badkamers!! Locatie aan de lagune is wel erg mooi, maar door het restaurant is het vrij toegankelijk en liggen daar vaak ook mensen uit andere hostels
On the hard side for what you get. Sleeps often not on slot and especially the 8bed dorm entrance is directly on the street. Veel te weinig badkamers!!
Sehr schönes Hostel mit perfekter Lage am See, die Sauberkeit war in Ordnung nicht perfekt. Ich kann es trotzdem empfehlen.

Staff were really helpful, and the facilities are class as you’ve got direct access to the lagoon. The Wednesday night party was good fun but makes it impossible to get to sleep if it’s not your thing or you’ve got an early Thursday.
so far the best hostel Ive stayed at - the reception and event organizers are such great people 💜 I will definitely be stopping back by in the future! waka waka ☮️
The best is definitely the location at the Lagune. Bar is very loud. The room ist quite small und kind of moist. 1 shower per dorm is not enough. Didn’t feel very clean. Atmosphere is ok but not too social
It’s a nice place right in front of the waterfront with swimming access to the lagune. Unfortunately they play music all day long right in Front of the dormwindow very loud, so you have to wake up at 8am and until late. Every Wednesday there‘s a Techno Party until 2am, if you wanna Party perfect! If you wanna sleep impossible! All in all a nice place, but not worth the extra money compared to other hostel prices.
Dieses Hostel ist der Himmel auf Erden! Ich war hier über eine Woche und wäre sogar gerne noch länger geblieben. Die Lage ist mega direkt an der Lagune und im ortszentrum. Die Ausstattung lässt keine Wünsche offen! Besonders hervorzuheben ist jedoch das Team.Ob Ali und Dario an der Rezeption, das activityteam rund um Javi oder das Barteam mit Enzo - alle sind unglaublich freundlich und lieben ihren Job. Im Restaurant gibt es sehr gutes, frisches Essen zu fairen Preisen. Danke für alles ♡
This hostel is heaven on earth! I was here for over a week and would have liked to stay even longer. The location is mega right on the lagoon and in the town centre. The facilities leave no wish unfulfilled! However, the team is particularly noteworthy.Whether Ali and Dario at the reception, the activity team around Javi or the Barteam with Enzo - everyone is incredibly friendly and loves their job.
Bestes Hostel in Bacalar mit eigenem Pier. Das Wasser ist glasklar, die angebotenen Touren machen Spaß und mittwochs ist immer eine gute Party!

Amazing Vibes at Yak Lake! I had an incredible stay at Yak Lake Hostel. There are so many activities to join, making it easy to meet people. The highlight was definitely the team. All the volunteers are wonderful, but Aisha and Xavi stood out—they are so kind, helpful, and truly go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome. Their energy makes this place special.

Beautiful location directly on the lagoon. But overpriced for what you get. The 8-bed dorm has only one toilet inside the room separated by a thin wall. The beds are metal grid frames that look like prison beds, and the curtains are useless because you can see through the bars. Breakfast is very limited (3 options, no drinks included) - better spend the money somewhere with a real coffee machine, they only have a Nespresso. Bed outlets are loose, had to charge my phone at reception. Nice staf...
La relación precio-calidad del servicio es excelente. Todo el personal del hostal fue super amable. La atención es muy buena, los cuartos están bien. La ubicación y salida al muelle es inmejorable. La comida no es tan barata pero está bien para estar a la vera de la laguna. Lo único malo es el abuso de la música del bar, a veces está muy alta y no esta cumpliendo ningún proposito, al contrario impide la contemplación de la belleza natural. Divino el hostel y el personal que lo sostien...
The price-quality ratio of the service is excellent. All the staff at the hostel was super friendly. The service is very good, the rooms are good. The location and exit to the dock is unbeatable. The food is not so cheap but it is fine to be at the edge of the lagoon. The only bad thing is the abuse of the music in the bar, sometimes it is too loud and is not serving any purpose, on the contrary it prevents the contemplation of natural beauty. Divine the hostel and the staff that supports it.

Such a lovely place, the private room was good (although it was expensive). Definitely try be there on Wednesday for the big party - it’s great. Shout out to Jabi and Poppy on the activities team - legends!
I really liked my stay at The Yak Lake House. The staff were friendly, the dorms had curtains which were great, the food was yummy and the outdoor area was really really nice.
Amazing location. The only downside is the blasting electronic music until very late (literally until 2am on Wednesday nights).

Very good hostel I recommend ! the location is amazing you have access and view of the lagoon ! the rooms and kitchen are basic, but the rest of the common areas are top notch ! very friendly staff !
Best. Hostel. Ever. I will be back. Stunning location, comfy enough bunks, incredible shower (scalding hot if that's how you like it, great water pressure, spacious, pretty clean...). Walk out of bed straight onto the dock and into the lagoon. Great ambience - made genuinely good friends super easily. The Wednesday night party was a lot of fun and ended promptly at 2am, so that wasn't even a massive issue. Love this place - book early or it'll be full!
