Charlestons NotSo Hostel

When we arrived for check in at 5pm someone had already taken our room. Literally locked the door and had their stuff in it. The doors are EASILY able to be popped open by just pushing so thats what my boyfriend did, thats how we found out someone took our room. Called, texted, emailed and called and left a message with their emergency service twice and they said they'd get back to me and still nothing. SCAM. INSANE BEHAVIOR TO NOT HAVE ANYONE ON SITE FOR THIS SITUATION.

This property has its challenges. It is not cleaned regularly and has mice. It does have parking and the location is nice. The guests are pleasant. The staff are not rude, but they do not address concerns. I would not recommend.

Didn’t stay. Description said en-suite bathroom but it was just a toilet. When I called Bailey was quick to let me know she couldn’t help. Vicki the manager, the same. Perfunctory, dirty. Not well run from a management or customer service perspective. I noticed there seemed to be en-suite rooms available for my dates, why not work with me instead of a quick dismissal.

Absolute nitemare. I arrived at 1030pm to a locked building, made several calls, received a code that didn't open the door, was told someone would call me back and to this moment not one phone call. I had to stand in the rain for 90 minutes only to book a flight back home and cancel the rest of my trip. This is hands down the worst accomodations experience I've encountered. I will discourage everyone from this business and my reviews will continue in the future whenever I have an opportunity.

was not given code to enter building and when I contacted them they told me they didn’t have a reservation under my name ….. I emailed them back with a screen shot of it and never herd anything back. had my mom call and text them on the number provided ( she was calling from Cañada) with no luck either . I was left stranded outside their building for an hour which left me no choice but to leave . Now I amin the process of disputing with the hostel and hostel world to get my money back… b...

Wouldn’t refund money even tho I had to cancel only because my flight got canceled. I payed for nothing!

The room was tiny but overcrowded with unusable furniture (couch). Not a single place to hang anything, had to use the couch as our clothes storage/wardrobe. Bathroom was ridiculously small, 20 inches wide (really!) by about 48 inches long. Couldn't even wash my face in the sink. Poorly maintained exterior. Non-existent staff.

Hi, It was very frustrating and disappointing not having WIFI the first night of my stay. I don’t have data on my cell so I needed WIFI to contact my friends (we were having a reunion after many years of not seeing each other). Also, the bed was quite small for two people and very noisy. Other than that, the location was very good, but I don’t think I will come back in the future. Thanks.

Everything here is like self serve. There was no lounge area in the house with couches. It was more dining areas. The bathrooms were nice. I didn’t really see any other guests and didn’t have any problems with weirdos. But I wish they had a manned front desk. There was a huge party next door, it was so loud during the night. But during the day it was pretty chill.

We stayed in the Kingsolver room in the Annex for one night. Great price for area and fit the bill! I did not receive my email because of an email issue with Hostelworld app. I called when I arrived around 8:30 pm and was immediately called back. Thanks for taking care of us!

I enjoyed my stay . The place was clean, and comfortable, and the location was great for visiting Charleston. I didn’t really meet the staff during my stay, and I didn’t see breakfast available, but overall I had a good experience there.

Too many steps. Staff is judgmental and do not communicate with guests. They don’t like their jobs much as my friend who works at the Uralian deli down the street told me. Claire is a very angry young woman who vents her anger on older male guests. I won’t stay there ever again. The rocks surrounding the main building make it difficult to move one’s luggage.

Instructions were clear and easy to understand for accessing the hostel. Space was very clean and organized. Staff and folks at the hostel were all very sweet and gracious. Absolutely would book again and so glad a spot like this exists is chsc

Beautiful hostel with a cozy atmosphere walking distance from downtown Charleston. Staff were super welcoming and gave great recommendations for things to do in town.

Excellent spot. Close enough to the historic area to do things by foot but also near a bus line if needed. Provided lots of local info. Amenities were good. 3 bathrooms for the whole front building. Full kitchen access with oatmeal and coffee provided. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff regularly cleaned shared spaces. Security was dependent on guests keeping doors closed so that was hit or miss as I came back once or twice to the door left open. But fully recommend staying here

Cozy place. Have stayed there for years. Consistently dependable.

Contactless check-in was simple and convenient. The dorm room was basic but clean and comfortable, with a calm, safe atmosphere. Shared spaces were tidy, and the morning coffee made for a relaxing start to the day. A great no-frills option for a quick stopover.

Decent hostel, its strengths are in recreating that charm, and the hostel was quiet and clean, staff friendly when present. 10-15 min walk to main road, but farther from main attractions. I ran into issues with the door codes malfunctioning, almost got locked out for the night, emergency number for reception did not respond, as the on-site reception closes. I also heard noises from within the walls, sounded like rodents, but unsure. Great value for price though!

Charleston, Not so Hostel was an amazing location and had all the amenities that I needed for my overnight stay except for towels — not sure where they were. I appreciated the self-check in. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. I was in the main location and it was perfect for me with convenient parking and access to public transportation. I was able to park my car, get around downtown Charleston and enjoy the city. I would definitely recommend this place and plan to stay here again.

Wouldn’t recommend. We were in an “annex” property. NOT clean. Bathrooms smelled. Sand on our bedroom floor. I accept the small room but I’ve never had a glass door for a headboard . Same laundry sat in dryer the entire time. No labkes to mark goods. Appeared as if the staff are not attentive to “the annex”. Noisy area can’t be helped but this house is old

no atmosphere/staff around, really just a guest house, but served its purpose and kept clean. very good location walkable to main downtown areas!

FANTASTIC LOCATION .... Room was good ... But, DID NOT LIKE the NO BATHROOM on this floor !! ... and they were clean enough when you consider 3 toilets for 7 bedrooms with multiple folks in each ... Nice porch BUT you hafta go outside and walk around the building to access it -too much trouble ... No living room or parlor for all those guests ... just two 4Top tables in each of the 2 kitchenettes (1 w/fridge, 1 w/o) ... No filtered water - just use sink ... Balcony was nice overlooking street.

We loved our stay at the Not So Hostel! We parked our car on arrival and did not get in it again until our departure, being able to walk everywhere we wanted during our stay. The upstairs porch in the front building was a hard place to leave each morning and a delightful place to return to. We will definitely return when our travels return us to Charleston. Thank you!!

This hostel created a core memory for me, granted I may have gotten lucky with those I met when staying here but wow wow wow this was an experience I will never forget. A gorgeous house with everything you could need and friends for life
