Mad Monkey Village

This hostel in mainly long termers, i found it very difficult to meet other backpackers as the bar is now closed and there were no social events in the evenings. The staff were also quite unhelpful on most occassions and I felt like an inconvenience at most times. Sadly wont be staying again

out the way from everything at least a 10 min walk. room’s absolutely stunk and toilet/shower area were always unclean. also the shower temperature would always change. could take alcohol into hostel however a bar would be much better and make it more sociable.

Nothing like the pictures- very run down and shabby. Showers leaking and broken.and always dirty morning and evening. Rooms very noisy with people talking in the kitchen. Main common area is basically the kitchen so smells and is always busy but not really sociable. A good 15-20 min walk from central cairns and did not feel safe walking back at night alone. Ended up leaving early and they did not give refund despite me giving them >24hrs notice as per their booking policy.

This hostel is not ideal for solo travellers. Most of the hostel are people working long-term to do their 88 days, so not a huge social atmosphere

Booked because of the many good reviews. However it is quite a big + noisy hostel with only 2 stoves and not enough storage and fridge space, which made cooking really not enjoyable. Also there is only plasticware to eat from. Room was okay not too clean but matress was okay. Price to value could be better.

no lockers in the room. My Room was infront of the community area so it was loud the whole time. The kitchen closed at 12pm and and the cleaning staff was really unfriendly. Location is okay. Overall not a really good hostel.

Overall okay hostel but the rooms smell horrible due to there being no ventilation and signs saying you will be fined if you open the windows. Our room had water running down the walls there was that much condensation

The rooms were ok but no place to store anything so the only option was the floor. Passive aggressive signs were placed on doors saying 20$ fines for a mess. Our room didn’t lock either so no security. The toilets stopped working and were closed and all of the plug sockets in the kitchen stopped working and couldn’t be used. Kitchen was so small and always busy and environment downstairs was very clicky. Loud music until midnight. 20 min walk to get anywhere so out of the way. Staff so noisy

Toilets were grim! It was at least 40 minutes to get somewhere and back. Found a cockroach in my suitcase. Staff threatened to fine us for having our things on the floor but no where to store stuff. They then tried to fine us for a bottle in the room that wasn’t ours. They threatened to fine us for having the window open. Pretty nice stay! I only spent a couple of nights there but the showers were nice, room was clean and the staff were friendly! Nice roommates also helped :)

Great place with everything you need. The full kitchen is perfect for cooking, and the private entrance is very convenient for late-night access. It's excellent value for the price—I keep extending my stay! Having a laundry machine and free detergent is also very helpful.

A legit hostel in the middle of cairns. Friendly staff and a great mix of people. It could be hard to meet people as there were lots of long term residents, but everyone was friendly and willing to chat! Kitchen is huge although some of the hobs need fixing. I had a private room which was really comfy. There aren’t many parking spots but if you can snag one it’s incredibly convenient. Would stay again super fun.

Great stay at the Mad Monkey Village! The place is clean, the beds are really comfortable and the linen is fresh. The kitchen is well-equipped and clean, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Good vibe overall with fun activities, I even decided to extend my stay. Everything is well located and easy to access. Only small improvement would be adding lockers in the rooms. Overall, I would definitely recommend it!

I had a really nice time at Mad Monkey Village in Cairns. It’s very social, so it’s easy to meet people and talk to others. The common areas are nice and I felt comfortable there. It’s a good place to enjoy and have a good experience.

Perfect stay. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. The staff friendly, helpful, and always available and Great location. I recommend it.

Stayed a couple nights in a private before an international flight. Didn’t use the kitchen and kept to myself so I can only speak to the room. Room was clean and had everything I needed. En-suite bathroom, having fresh towels, and hairdryer felt like a hotel experience after months of hostel group rooms! Bit of a walk from central activities in town but quiet at night, which is nice after party hostels!

I had a great stay at Mad Monkey Village in Cairns. The hostel has a really friendly and social atmosphere, making it easy to meet new people. The staff were nice and helpful, and the place was kept clean and well located close to everything. I would definitely stay here again!

I love this hostel, I think it’s the best i’ve ever been!

Ik heb echt een top tijd gehad bij Mad Monkey Village in Cairns! Het hostel heeft een super gezellige en sociale sfeer, waardoor je heel makkelijk andere reizigers ontmoet. Er worden gedurende de week veel leuke activiteiten georganiseerd, dus er is altijd wel iets te doen. De faciliteiten zijn ook heel goed: een fijn zwembad om te relaxen, een goede keuken en ontbijt in de ochtend. Er wordt vaak schoongemaakt, wat het verblijf extra prettig maakt. Het personeel is vriendelijk en behulpzaam!

Great hostel, really comfy beds & all the facilities clean. Loads of long termers there though that are very cliquey so I wouldn’t recommend for a solo traveller bc it makes it quite hard

Pros: Nice social hostel, easy to meet people and great vibe, enough space to store food, big rooms, clean bathrooms, really nice and helpful staff, nice backyard, lot of social events Cons: Kitchen was a bit messy/ dirty, no lockers, no shelves, no bed curtains (would be nice for some privacy)
