Verandahs Parkside Lodge

Iconic views and nice location for Ponsonby with all its cafes and eateries :) Set up is a bit odd- weird having to go down stairs and outside to get to the kitchen, so glad I wasn’t cooking.

Great location - loved the decks overlooking the park and downtown. Ponsonby is a great district to be near as well. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were fine. The room was pretty dingy and provided no place to store even some of your belongings. There was no secure place to lock things up either. The buildings were safe though and needed key entry. There was a nice lounge but no TV to watch the games.

It is a nice hostel but has an older demographic. It isn’t located in the centre so is a bit of a walk or a bus to the centre.

I turned up at a sensible time but they were closed. I guess they are short of staff or that lunchtime is nap time but given that is when some might want to check in it strikes me as lazy. I turned up because I was unable to cancel my booking on the website as it kept reloading to the home page despite being on time for cancel. Regardless they did not care and charged me full rate anyways. Overall the hostel might be a good spot but if things go wrong they do not appear reliable or good vibes!

While the location was good, the cleanliness of the hostel did not meet my standards (bathrooms and kitchen in particular)

Muy buen hostel si buscas tranquildad, no hay ambiente social, por lo que no lo recomiendo para recien llegados al pais. El resto muy bien.

Overall a very nice stay. Staff were often difficult to locate and the rooms were very hot. Fairly central location though.

Eine prima Location. Ich war schon ein paarmal hier und konnte auch gern wieder. Gäbe es Locker für Wertsachen auf dem Zimmern (am besten mit Lademöglichkeit) dann wäre es einfach perfekt.

Beautiful property, right on Western Park. Great location. Clean, spacious bathrooms. Nice common areas. Bed and linens could be updated/improved, but cool backyard makes up for it.

Very nice spot to stay in Auckland. Very quiet. Staff is friendly and helpful. Convenient location to walk to the city’s CBD area.

A small hostel that makes it feel more familiar and the most social place I've ever stayed in in NZ. Cheap, clean, friendly staff. quite far away from the city centre but still in a good and nice location

A very pleasant and quiet place, close to restaurants.

Great place to arrive in Auckland, people are quite social which was nice. The rooms are big, though no lockers available for safekeeping valuables. Facilities were good and kitchen was well equipped too. Would stay again!

I had a great stay here! The hostel is very nice – spacious, spotless and with modern bathrooms and a cozy interior. The kitchen is a real highlight: large, well-equipped, never too crowded and with plenty of space for storage. I also loved the outdoor seating area – perfect to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings with a lovely view of the nearby park. Immer wieder

It's a very busy hostel, in a city. People are often tired, and perhaps not feeling sociable, especially if they're only here for 1 night. It's got everything you want from a hostel, beds, not bunks, so smaller community and reasonably close to everything, although not central, shops and cafes very nearby.

Great hostel, fantastic location right next to a park, yet everything is within easy walking distance. The kitchen, common areas and the garden are great! Even the shared washrooms are individual rooms, so you have plenty of privacy. The owner is super friendly and helpful. If I ever come back to Auckland, I will definitely stay here again.

Wonderful and relaxing place. A little downside is that personal bed lights are missing, but overall a very well equipped and thoughtful place to stay

the best hostel

Excellent hostel. It was very clean, staff were great and good social atmosphere to meet other travellers. I’d highly recommend this hostel to travellers of all backgrounds!

Cosy place, very welcoming. Spacious kitchen, comfy common rooms. The atmosphere is very chill - everyone seemed to be just arriving and still jet lagged, social nonetheless, but also easy to get some me-time. big drawback: the windows. i had the bed at the window and it was extremely drafty and rattling the whole time. needless to say i got a bit of a cold immediately.
