Aquarius Backpackers Byron Bay

AC was completely broken in room 18 (12 beds) for over a week and front desk did basically nothing about it despite multiple complaints from pretty much everyone in the room. It took 4 days for maintenance to come and admit he had no idea. Requests for fans were ignored, had to drag a fan up myself from the lobby at night just to get sleep (Darren on nights was the saving grace). Hostel made no attempt to compensate or move rooms. Hostel itself is great, anything goes wrong good luck.

I've been traveling for a year and this was beyond the worst hostel experience I ever had.

Schmutzig!!!! Es wird nicht gestaubsaugt, es laufen Hunde frei rum (Habe Hundesllergie), Dusche/WC horror! Da es nicht sauber war hatte es Kakerlaken! Keine Vorhänge im Schlafzimmer somit sehr hell! Sehr hellhörig. 1 Dusche/WC für 10 Personen zu wenig! Küche nie sauber gesehen! Im Fokus stehen ganz gross Drogen! Nieeee mehr!!!!

Very loud, a lot of construction going on. The bathrooms are in the dorm rooms and you hear and smell everything

The location of the hostel is great, most of the staff was lovely too. Nevertheless, the hostel itself is pretty run down, the rooms were incredibly dirty, mattresses were very cheap and uncomfortable, cockroaches inside the bathroom. Additionally, when we stated there, half of the facility was under construction, with construction tools and dirt all over the place, construction works started at 6:30 am, great start to the day. Incredible how you can charge average Byron hostel prices for that!

The staff was rude, not very helpful… made me feel like I was inconveniencing them to ask a question lol! Service could be greatly improved. Quiet hours never enforced, lots drunk loud obnoxious people yelling for no reason into the 3am times. Room next to the kitchen sucked and was woken up every morning by the ding of the bell from what I’m guessing was when an order was ready… super annoying. rooms were filthy. This wasn’t due to room mates, as the sort of dirt I’m referring to is a build up of dust and just general housekeeping tasks that haven’t been performed in ages. Personal items were taking out of my room and off my bed by staff. Had to get them back LOL. Filthy room and false advertising. The private rooms do not have air conditioning. Extremely rude and disinterested front of house staff. The only reason this review isn't a 1* is because the location is great, it's got a sociable atmosphere and it's BYOB.

Paid for private room but was a semi private within a dorm room and no AC. Needs to be made clearer on their site and not in small print.

TERRIBLE PLACE we booked a private room, that states aircon, we were given a disgusting room, which is IN a dorm…the dorm had AC, we had a fan, that on max speed we could watch revolve. We slept about an hour. They told us they were fully booked so we couldn’t move, so they couldn’t help us at all. We slept an hour the first night, in BUCKETS of sweat. 10/10 The best hostel I have stayed in ever! Comfy beds spacious rooms, the nicest friendliest people. In a central location close to centre of Byron and the beach, really clean and excellent facilities. So much to do there and great value onsite bar and coffee shop.

Facu at the front desk was amazing! He was so friendly and helpful and made Aquarius backpackers a brilliant stay for us. The room was extremely clean, great location and brilliant hostel activities. I would highly recommend this hostel for anyone staying in Byron Bay! Thank you Facu💓

Das Hostel hat sehr viele Aktivitäten die toll organisiert werden. Von der Sauberkeit im Zimmer war ich etwas enttäuscht, da das Bad überall voll war mit Schimmel und die Matratzen so durchgelegen waren, dass ich die Metallstangen in meiner Rippe gespürt habe. Ansonsten sind die Zimmer groß und geräumig. Der Pool ist nicht mehr frei verwendbar, dies ist nun ein extra Pool Club. Ansonsten war die Küche immer sehr sauber und aufgeräumt.

Bathrooms need deep cleaning, especially showers.

Amazing hostel, booked my bed 2 minutes before checking in and it went soo snoothly. The receptionist was incredible; upgraded my bed after knowing I made 2 separate bookings over 2 nights. Enviornment was nice and the location is close to the beach.

the place is in a good location, I felt safe, the common area are clean and nice. but the room is a bit old and the en-suite bathroom could be a little bit more cleaner… no curtain on the bed and the windows in the room, even if the windows are blurry the light get in easily in the morning so bring something to cover your eyes while you sleep. overall a good place with good vibes!

Social hostel in a great location. However only one shower/toilet for 10 people.

Location is great as it's only a couple of minutes walk to the beach. I had to ask FIVE times (over several days) for the handwash dispenser in the shared bathroom to be refilled. The lack of handwash also meant other guests were walking around and touching handles with dirty hands. Cleanliness wasn't great in the rooms either as there is a large build-up of dust on floors and beds, and snot on walls. Staff singing loudly whilst cleaning. Some staff rude. Noise disturbances not prioritised.

This place is so lovely! Got super lucky with my roommates and all got along amazingly! Love the balcony and all the facilities it has to offer! It is in the centre of everything, and all a walking distance! It’s so good we are coming back lol!

Zimmer war nicht „frisch renoviert“; es war nicht sehr sauber. Ansonsten alles top

I adored this hostel, ended up extending another 5 nights. The 10 bed dorm with the balcony was the perfect place to meet people and socialise as a solo traveller - the memories I made here are amazing !! The hostel puts on fun events and the rooftop gym is gorgeous. Shoutout to Janu at reception he was amazing. Also the happy travels desk is a great addition (shoutout Ross !!) I can’t wait to be back here later this month!!

Social area & kitchen is renovated and really pretty. Rooms on the other hand are not that clean, mould in shower and bathroom. Stuff is friendly, really social hostel :)

Loved it here! Great atmosphere and people, there's even a gym on the property and discounts for the restaurant nextdoor.

The shower kept dripping uncontrollably but besides that it was great:) a bit annoying that they didn’t have curtains around the beds

Cute place and great location. I loved that it was on two floors for a ten beds room. Although, the bathroom needed some serious cleaning as there was mold in the shower. Also, there was holes in the blanket provided.

Eines der hostels mit den meisten Putzaktionen in den Gemeinschaftsräumen. 3 mal täglich wird die Küche gesäubert. Das hat mir sehr gefallen. Allerdings war das Bad auf unserem Zimmer sehr dreckig… alles in allem kann ma das Hostel für ein paar Nächte empfehlen
