Mango Mansion

I booked the “deluxe 4 beds room” - nothing deluxe about it, unfortunately. It was the dirtiest hostel I’ve stayed in, and I’ve stayed in plenty. I woke up with ants in my bed, the floor doesn’t seem to get cleaned very often, bathroom is in poor shape. I ended up checking out 2 days early and pay for another accommodation. The location is great and the staff was friendly, but that’s about that.

At 80 a night this hostel is incredibly overpriced for what it is.

During my stay in a shared dorm, I experienced a serious boundary violation when another guest entered my bed and touched me without my consent. I reported it immediately, but management later minimized the situation as a “grey area.” The guest was allowed to stay despite my multiple follow-ups. After checkout, I was banned over a misunderstanding involving communal toiletries that a staff member said I could take, which I replaced immediately. I did not feel protected or supported.

Good location, super clean, great staff and fun guests. would give a 10/10 but there’s a few obnoxious (easily fixable) problems- 1. Be prepared to be kicked out on the street after 11am check out, or pay $15 to merely hang around the hostel while you wait for your flight. In the 30+ hostels I’ve stayed in NEVER have I encountered such a stupid, cash grab policy. 2. The music in the common areas cannot be turned up, down, or changed by guests. 3. Mango Mansion hostel uses WhatsApp for communication, which shares your phone number with the group. The location is great for visiting La Placita, but otherwise not ideal. There’s no sign indicating it’s a hostel, and they didn’t mention having dogs. The co-ed rooms felt unsafe at times, and there aren’t enough bathrooms. Oof this is a tough review. While I enjoyed my time at MM, it was mainly due to the great people. Other than that, sadly, it is a tough place to stay. Got a 4-person room that was in the "garden" that didn't include a bathroom--had to walk outside and through the building to get a toilet. Hot water and water pressure were always inconsistent. Lots of smoking all over. Beds were fine, but noise is crazy with barking dogs, hwy traffic, gunshots, and loud people. Staff was super friendly at least.

I chose Mango Mansion based on the reviews/ratings. After staying there for 2 nights I can see why it would receive RAVE reviews for the social aspect. The staff is kind and accommodating and they set the tone for all the guests to interact and hangout with one another! My issue was the cleanliness and upkeep of the hostel itself. The floors in my room were dirty, the microwave stopped working on my second night, one of the showers didnt work, & the one that did work completely flooded.

Upon arrival at the Mango Mansion location, I rang the doorbell multiple times and it was never answered. I and my companion were stranded outside the front gate in the rain with our backpacks and suitcases exposed to all the cars and people passing us in front of the venue. We had no way of contacting the staff because our emails, phone calls, and doorbell rings were all left unacknowledged.

Mango is a fun place that is great for meeting people and partying. The staff are very kind, Kiara and Nicholas were very cool. We travelled together around Puerto Rico. Overall very good experience.

I hady fun experience at the mango mansion. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is good if you want to be in the middle of activities and nightlife. The overall vibe at the hostel was very communal and friendly.

Very social, but there wasn’t a trash bin or lockers in the room. Tiny locker outside in the hallway. Breakfast ok, but be early, or there will be nothing left.

The 12-person room was super social, and the vibe was electric. You are a short walk to La Placita and a short walk to the beach and Santurce tourist-y area, which is great. Not enough showers if you are there for a long stay, FYI.

Cool vibe and great local if you want experience the nightlife. Staff was not that welcoming IMO. Breakfast was very mid.

Amazing stay at Mango Mansion. Staff were amazing and the atmosphere of the entire place was awesome. Great for solo travel, or groups. Good location, as it is walking distance to the beach and nightlife area. Short uber ride to Old San Juan.

Super comfortable amazing welcoming staff. The location was close to La placita and condado beach which made it ideal. If you need anything last minute a supermax is close by as well. 10/10 stay :)

People are very kind and welcoming. Travelers would stay up late to talk in the common areas & I think that’s beautiful. It’s a short walk from everything, I walked to super max in 5 minutes & got groceries for my stay. Ubers were 16$ to $8 from hostel to San Juan. I found pricey for a shared dorm but overall i’m very satisfied. it was the most social hostel i’ve ever been to and I probably stayed in at least 20 of them. lots of bars/restaurants around + a big supermarket, and to be 5min walk away from la placita was very convenient.

Literally perfect, way past any expectations i had for my first solo trip.

One of the best hostel experiences. Breakfast was delicious and so cool that it was included, beds were soooo comfy and the people were so social and very friendly. Such an incredible hostel, I will be back!

Only stay here if you want to be in a party hostel, music blaring till 11pm and pretty much everyone goes out to la placita every night. Travelers and staff were nice and the beach is close. Pretty much no where to store your things and the floor is always sandy. Lack of mirrors in bathrooms was annoying and breakfast was mediocre. For the price it should have been better.

Great if you’re a traveler and wanna make friends easily!

From what I’ve heard, it’s the best hostel in San Juan, and I’d say my experience lived up to it. Clean and social, especially on weekends

Great place, great people.

Had an amazing time here for my birthday- loved the folks here. If your looking for a hostel next to the beach and bunch of night life and want friends to do it every night this is the move. I didn’t even have an itenary but I did so much!
