Tiny room for a lot of money. Also, for me, not really an atmosphere to socialise. There were mainly extremely loud groups, which felt intimidating and not welcoming. Location is bad but that is not the fault of the hostel, Tauranga is just a really depressing place.
Cold shower, dirty bedding :( it really wasn’t a good experience!
My stay at the hostel was unfortunately unsatisfactory. The bed sheets were stained with blood, which was deeply concerning. The bathroom design was awkward, with the toilet door facing inwards and limited space, making it difficult for adults to use comfortably. There was only one washing tap, leading to overcrowding in the mornings. Additionally, the floor drain in the bathroom was clogged, creating an unhygienic and unpleasant showering experience. The room itself was very compact and lacked
Very disappointing stay. Accommodation is nothing like the photos and a very odd crowd - I was the only female there and it will full of a rougher crowd of older men who all seemed to be high / drunk. Didn’t feel safe here at all! I left at 7am the next morning
The hostel is quite expensive. Not only the rent but also dry and wash which is 12$. There are no security lockers. The cleaning takes forever and your room will be open for like 3 hours. On the flip side it's very clean and it's easy to meet people. There are some free ingredients in the kitchen and the balcony is nice. The bathrooms are clean.
So I think a little pricy - the location is good but no parking and hard to get parking nearby (not the hostels fault). The building is old which isn’t a probable but o had lots of issues getting into my room cause the lock on the door was abit faulty but otherwise clean and comfortable and good common room and kitchen facilities - also a private bathroom for the 6 bed female dorm which was great
The location is nice right on the water. The rooms are ok, a bit dirty with mould kind of everywhere. Atmosphere is awful, full of long termers that just take over the whole place, makes it hard to meet others. Felt very hostile. Staff are somewhat helpful but they just can’t really be arsed with ya. Wouldn’t return 👎🏼
There is mold everywhere! The windows were just covered in it, the bunk bed felt like it would break every time I got up, and im a pretty petite person... the woman running the front desk was nice but the other staff would yell in the hallways every morning around 7am, thankful they had heaters but even the bathroom was dingey, moldy and smelled like there was water trapped in the walls... overall one of the worse hostel experiences I've had
There were barely any Charging stockings in the rooms and 20 Dollar deposit, also in Cash, should not be necessary in a hostel. Other than that it was a nice stay
Really surprised this hostel had 9 stars. There were no bed curtains, no individual lights, 1 outlet for a 6 person room, and no lockers. To lock away items you need to rent a locking mechanism for $40. Key deposit was $20, cash only. No mesh on the windows, and no air conditioning. The staff were friendly but it seemed understaffed. The water pressure was weird, the sink sprayed too hard, and would get my clothes wet any time i turned it on. The key was difficult to use in the doors.

mega bestes hostel ich hab’s geliebt
Great hostel overall, location wasn’t in the main bit of tauranga but that wasn’t a problem more just helpful to know
Leider echt sehr teuer im Vergleich zu anderen, dennoch auch echt eine gute Lage direkt am Meer, jedoch ohne Strand und ohne Action ab 22 Uhr.
Great location and a very comfortable bed. Check in was easy.
Very comfortable beds, reasonably clean, friendly and helpful staff, very quiet, safe and easy going, amazing terrace and fairly priced. Honestly the only thing I would criticise is that the top bunks don’t have a curtain while the bottom bunks do, that the gas stoves are very slow and not very good and that I think there should be black pepper and oil in the kitchen for everyone to use and not just salt and sugar. Would 100% stay here again next time I‘m in Tauranga!
It was not in the best location. Unless you enjoy shopping.
It’s a nice place and very central. The bathroom was unfortunately not so clean but other than no complain :)
Very good hostel :) very clean, big kitchen and nice people!
wowwww best hostel bed i have probably ever stayed in. great location, ample parking, shops, and eateries around. quite hostel overall but would definitely come back!
The hostel itself is nice, the balcony is amazing. However, it did feel very empty and not very social for some reason. It's also a bit on the pricier side. In addition, it's located in the rather boring CBD part of Tauranga, whereas Mt Maunganui was way more interesting and happening (to me at least). The hostel is quite close to the InterCity bus stop.

The structure of the hostel itself is nice with airy common use spaces however that’s the extent of its positive attributes. Rooms are cramped with no locked security available and rickety bunk beds, showers do not have hot water, and the location of this hostel is removed from the beachy area - this is part of the shipping port.
Felt completely safe as a solo female traveler! Staff were amazing and very hardworking!! Curtains on lower bunks and light/outlets in your bunk in the 6 bed mixed dorm I was in. Good kitchen and communal space. Location central to Tauranga activities.
Enjoyed my stay very much and espacially the kitchen, it’s got lots of space to cook, eat and sit and a beautiful view!
Loved my stay at Wanderlust. Great central location and right on the water. Had a lovely balcony to enjoy the ocean views at any time of day. Bunk beds were quite shaky, which was the only downside. Shower was also difficult to get a good temperature but overall I really enjoyed my stay at Wanderlust and would go back.
Everything great! It's in the centre but I would say, it has a lot more people arround Mt. Manganui. The centre itself provides not a lot of activities (of course that's not the fault of the hostel!!). But I met some really nice guests and one invited me to Kaiate Falls, which was beautiful. I definitely recommend this place!
Worth mentioning: they have a beautiful rooftop terrace with a nice view! Great for shared evenings. Hostel was well organized and pretty newly renovated.
Beautiful place and view and rooms and staff and and and...
Excellent staff! Comfortable mattresses , but the beds are super shaky. I felt every move the person in the top bunk made and vice versa. The shower was hard to adjust ; either cold or scalding. There were birds in the kitchen trying to steal food off of unguarded plates. Finches and sparrows so they were cute, but not super hygienic. But the views from the kitchen are great, the facilities are fresh and clean, the staff are super nice and the atmosphere is great. I made several friends here.
