Rancho Grande Hostel

When we arrived at the hostel, no one was at the front disk. Had to call them and wait for 30 minutes for them to arrive (and the guy was super rude when he got there). I had booked a duble private room. He tried give us one single bed to share - and when we told him, that it’s not what we had booked, we couldn’t get another room - and had to find another hostel late at night.

I don’t know why this hostel gets such rave reviews. There is zero vibe as 90% of the hostels communal area is dominated by the pretty loud restaurant. Staff couldn’t give less of a flying f***. Felt like you were staying at a cheap motel except it’s not cheap! Rooms are comfortable and each bed has usb etc but the kitchen is not great and the bathrooms really suck. Would avoid staying here

Ein Hostel wie wahrscheinlich die meisten in El Chalten. Überteuert, ungemütlich, kein Gemeinschaftsbereich. Personal unfreundlich, WLAN unterirdisch schlecht. Die Nachfrage regelt eben den Preis. In einem Restaurant gelegen, mit dem man sich die Schließfächer teilt. Man darf, wenn das Personal einen guten Tag hat, sein Gepäck in der unabgeschlossenen Rumpelkammer stehen lassen. Wenn man kann sollte man wirklich lieber campen. Das Geld ist wirklich nicht gut investiert.

i do not reccommend this hostel. it is basically a 24/h pub which also has a hostel. No quiet space, loud music 24/h, no space for eating, no division between pub and sleeping space. My room did not have a plug close to my bed (essential for me) and the bathrooms did not have soap and could be accessed by the pub customers. Looks nice on the photos, but be aware!

Probably the worst beds I've ever slept in, my back was broken. Also doesn't help when you've to do 20 km hikes every day and you're kept awake because the heating is on in the tiny rooms 24/7. The location is good, but El Chalten is so small, that doesn't say much. The hostel and surrounding areas were kept very clean by staff, so that is something at least.

Not a bad hostel but not a great one either. I think for the price you’d be able to get something better in El Chalten, or something of a similar standard but for less money. Facilities are basic and didn’t always feel particularly clean. On the positive side the staff are really lovely, the location for hiking is good and the atmosphere was fairly sociable

Leider etwas teuer für das was man bekommt. Ist ein nettes Hostel mit hilfsbereiten Personal in guter Lage. Leider war meine Matratze extrem durchgelegen und wir konnten die Heizung im Zimmer nicht selbst regulieren. Man kann dort zwar schon bleiben, für den Preis bekommt man jedoch auch deutlich bessere Unterkünfte.

The kitchen was covered in flies & not well stocked. Hostel is at the very end of the main road of the town.

I booked a 3 night stay here. It’s a very odd hostel. Staff are cold, not welcoming, judgy and always on their mobile phones. Doesn’t have a welcoming feel, it’s very ‘clicky’ and definitely somewhere I would stay again. Food in the restaurant was okay but expensive. Look elsewhere before you consider Rancho Grande

Good location really near the start of the hikes, beds are comfy just really sqeeky, kitchens a bit small for the size of the hostel, has a option of a restaurant too, nice social atmosphere

Great location for hiking Fitz Roy and the restaurant is a good plus as well as it is very clean!

This hostel feels more like a restaurant than a hostel… all of the residents had only the top floor to hang out whilst the entire bottom floor is a noisy restaurant. You would think that a 24/7 restaurant hostel would give you some kind of discount at breakfast but no. The showers overflow, the kitchens are small and with only gas stoves and microwaves, overall not a good experience.

Nice big hostel - kitchens are way too small for the number of guests though. Was a battle to find a burner. Common areas are noisy but nice and big. Maybe not the best for a solo traveller, but probably much better for groups

Good place to stay in El chalten. Bathrooms seem to be cleaned often and good atmosphere to meet people. Kitchen could be slightly bigger.

War ganz gut für ein paar Nächte, aber laut da das Lokal 24/7 offen ist. Küche nicht gut ausgestattet. Zimmer dafür groß und sauber.

The hostel is very loud, even if you're not close to the common rooms. The rooms were big enough and have spacious lockers. The mattresses were old and concave so not the most comfortable. Common rooms are nice and the kitchens are adequate. Security is definitely not the best. Anyone can access the corridors where the rooms are. You only need a key for the rooms themselves. Luggage storage room doesn't lock. Staff is great. Laundry service is good. Restaurant is great.

Everything is quite ok. Clean and quiet beside the extractor which is on from morning to evening and makes table and chairs shaking. Doesn't help relaxing after a day hiking. Not enough bathrooms especially downstairs as shared with the restaurant. Great staff tho and again, really clean

I didn’t love staying here but I didn’t hate it either, it was just okay. I didn’t love the set up of the hostel being connected to a restaurant - it felt a bit weird to use bathrooms and shower facilities that are shared with the restaurant customers. The kitchens are tiny and hardly sufficient for the amount of people that can stay at the hostel at any given time. I also had my food thrown away from the fridge even though I labelled it correctly.

Genuinely one of the best hostels i've stayed in worldwide. Great for price, great location near trailhead, great facilities and rooms. Kind staff and easy storage of bags during our backpacking trip. Highly recommend!

loved the property, pretty near the trials, 24 hour restaurant with good food, good beds and clean dorms and kitchen. the staff was amazing and helped make my hiking experience really good

Decent basic hostel, good as a base for walking however not particularly clean especially in the bathrooms. Also no toaster which is a real pain and something very easy and cheap to remedy.

Good hostel. Generally lacking in warmth, feels a bit mass produced. Kitchen and bathroom facilities pretty grim.

Staff were so unbelievably helpful. Tended to any question, no matter how small. The space was free and we felt at home very quickly. Far a 10 out of 10, the showers could have been better, but otherwise it is the perfect location for adventures with 24/7 service.
