Ijen Backpacker

Stay away from this place! My bed was covered with bed bugs!! They know about it and do nothing! I literally just got there took a shower tried to go to bed and found out many bed bugs on the pillows and on the bed! Left immediately! Horrible experience.

Hostel was great and clean, the tour provided to Ijen volcano amazing as well. After we booked a private car to Ubud through the hostel and they knowingly gave us a driver that was unable to finish the drive. He was falling asleep and almost crashed multiple times. It came to the point where we had to drive ourselves back as he was endangering 4 lives. When I notified the hostel they sais they know he was tired and when asked about the refund I got ignored. Very unprofessional and greedy.

If I could put 0 I Would. The only good point is the people. In other case, this hostel is full of coackroaches everywhere !! So if you don’t care about cleanliness, like to be surrounding by 20 coackroaches this place is made for you. In other case, like me just cancel your trip.

To be blunt: two friends and me got robbed (big time) while we were on the hostel's Ijen tour at night. The lockers in the hostel are not safe. Another guest took all our valuables. The owners are lovely people with the heart at the right place. This was the first time it happened and they were shocked. They helped us all day with the Police, security cameras etc. However, it remains a bad experience, and safety should be their top priority from now on, especially while organizing the tour

The staff was very friendly and helpfull. The common space was clean. However, our room was not clean. Sheets and towels looked like they have not been washed in a long long time and bugs were everywhere. Also, we have heard from other guests about bedbugs, which made us feel uneasy.

I found a bedbug right before heading out on the ijen hike. when I told staff, they said they would deal with it tomorrow. I wasn't offered another bed. I left the hostel right after the hike.

If you don’t want to sleep from 4 to 5:30 am, its the perfect place, just ask to stay in room 1. The mosque just beside will be one hour and a half shouting through the loudest JBL speaker of the country + there are no windows in the hostel, just holes in the wall. And if you also want the experience a hipotermia, rooms 1 and 2 share AC and there is one shared remote for all the ACs in the hostel, so most likely the AC will be at 16 degrees and your room will be a perfect replica of an iglu

Very basic, fine as a one night stop but wouldn’t stay longer, it’s very close to the port which may be useful after travelling but otherwise not near the other hostels. Didn’t include breakfast unfortunately.

By the ferry port, stank of wet dog and damp, mosque across the street was noisy, you won’t get much sleep so only need one night to climb ijen early, toilets stank of piss, staff were lovely and helpful, cheap stay

The dorms are okay, they have all the essentials, maybe a little crammed. The private room are amazing thought!

Hostel très bien situé, à 2 minutes de marche de la gare et 4 minutes du ferry. Nous y avons séjourné avant de partir faire le trek à Ijen via leurs services. J’ai voulu dormir quelques heures avant le trek mais j’ai retrouvé des cheveux et des punaises de lit dans mon oreiller et dans mes draps. J’ai donc passé la soirée sur la terrasse et attendu minuit pour le départ de l’excursion … Le reste de l’auberge est propre et le staff sympathique.

The location is great, next to the ferry port, the staff are amazing, everyone is so nice! The rooms ake okay, u have your locker under the bed, but bring your lock. Toilets are also okay. Only minus is that it is next to the mosque, so when they pray, it is really loud.

L’hostel est vraiment bien. Très proche de la gare et du port. Personnel très aimable, à l’écoute et aidant. Prêt à répondre à toutes vos questions. L’hostel était propre. Eau, thé et bouilloire en accès libre. Je recommande à fond :)

Perfect stay for doing tours. However I thought the room I booked had an ensuite (private) bathroom which it didn’t but it was still fine. The staff super friendly and helpful. (No vegan options sadly) overall good stay

Really friendly and helpful staff and a very convenient place to stay if you want to go up Ijen.

Great location just 5 minutes from Ketapang Harbor and 1 minute from the train station. I booked both Ijen and Bromo tours here—the cheapest I found—and everything was well arranged. The Ijen hike allowed me to go at my own pace, and the hostel even provided the health certificate. Bromo included transport, homestay, jeep, and entrance tickets—excellent value. Staff were friendly, breakfast after Ijen was great, and overall it was a very economical stay.

Wonderful people here, rooms are amazing and the block out blinds are a lifesaver for those sleeps before and after the Ljen hike

Great organised hike to Mt Ijen.

The staff is nice and the location is great if you’re only staying in Banyuwangi to hike Ijen and then leave with the ferry. BUT, the place isn’t clean and we found bedbugs in the first room they gave us…

Great value for money, the beds are comfy and does the job, it’s close to the port and train station. They can help arrange on ward travel and give you the best advice. I also did the hike with them and it was really good, our tour guide made sure we all stayed together and was nice being in a small group

loved our stay here ! the family was so lovely and helpful. our room was really nice and clean. booked our ijen trip through them and it was soo good!

Er lagen nog haren in de lavabo, het waren vochtige kamers zonder ramen met harde geur naar javel of sterk wasmiddel, douche was lauw . De organisatie van de Ijen tour is wel goed en als je die doet, moet je er op zich niet slapen dus in dat opzicht wel oke. Wel leuk dat er meerdere backpackers samenzaten.

Super établissement qui ont de bon conseil et qui se trouve juste à côté du port
