Unfortunately our stay was very disappointing. We were „upgraded” to a fam room but ended up sharing it with two strangers who entered without a key because their bed hadn’t been cleaned. We were never informed by reception, which made us feel unsafe. The room also had cockroaches and dirty towels when we checked in. The two who stayed in our room received a full refund, but we were still charged full price. We contacted the manager several times, but after one short message he stopped rep...
Might as well have slept on the floor, the mattress was so old and through. There are doors between the dorms, which make them super non-soundproof. Men were using the female bathroom and showers. Kitchen was only half functional and dirty. People were generally being loud and disrespectful, 95% longterm guests. Also a few dogs in the hostel. Good location though.
The worst hostel we have ever stayed in. It is not suitable for solo or young travellers! It was dirty and we felt so unsafe. The room smelt of stale urine and alcohol. We arrived in the evening and left by 7am we felt too unsafe to stay.
The hostel is not clean, there is a lot of mold in the showers, the rooms stink, the kitchen is a mess, the overall place is nasty. I was also so disappointed and scared when I was staying with you. I booked an all girls dorm for two nights, the first night was good. The second day, when I was taking a nap I woke up to a 45 year old man in my room. I was scared and uncomfortable. Me and my roommate confronted the staff and you said that there was nothing you could do. This is wrong! We are 1...
While you are cooking, you will usually see cockroaches either on the ground or running around in the table. The hostel has no atmosphere, its huge and cold, I think prisons in Sweden are more cosy. This place should be taken down, there's no fixing it.
Hostel really needs a cleaning. It is dirty everywhere. There are lots of activities/games to do at no extra cost, however much of it is in bad condition. There is no "hostel vibe", which means no activities. Also the kitchen is very dirty and needs a VERY deep cleaning. So much potential but poor managed.
Dirty, dorm room latch bangs everytime door is opened. Ensuite bathroom was locked all night. Kitchen was super dirty. Pillows were all stained brown and yellow. Had to make own beds. Stayed in a lot of hostels around the world and this one is near the bottom.
The dirtiest hostel i have been to. Furthermore the vibe wasn’t it for me
I would not recommend this hostel to anyone. The rooms were unclean, as were the bathrooms and kitchen. It was full of long term residents who made any backpackers feel unwelcome. The staff were not friendly and rude when we made reasonable complaints. We have previously stayed at 3 other YHA’s on the east coast, and this was nothing like the others we have visited.

Only thing that disturbed me was that the windows couln't be opened enough in the twin private room. Rest was super!🤗 they even had guitars to play and table tennis, puzzles etc! And a well equipped kitchen
It’s a good hostel, clean, comfortable. However curtains on bunk beds is an absolute bare minimum requirement for a room costing over 60 dollars a night. A small amount of privacy for each guest would go a long way
It’s a shame that the hostel isn’t that great because the town is lovely. The staff are really nice. The kitchen is big and clean (most of the time save for some people’s inability to wash up their own stuff). I was not a fan of the rooms and the beds. There’s no aircon and the bunk beds are dated - every time the person above or below you moves, the whole bed moves.
Lovely property, super friendly staff. So close to the beach and transport. We had a lovely stay and would recommend the YHA Newcastle to anyone thinking of staying :))))
it was a decent place to stay - appreciated the price but also not somewhere I’d choose if I was looking to stay longer than a few nights but that’s just me
Had a wonderful time in the hostel and the staff are so lovely to chat to. Very clean areas and great location
overall amazing Hostel, perfect location great building. Only the quality of the beds was below average. Otherwise great staff, clean and an unbeatable location.
Great staff and great location. Bedroom didn’t have any air con just had a small desk fan which didn’t do much other then throw hot air around. Kitchen was spacious, lots of fridge and cupboard space.
Good hostel for a night / cause there’s no other options. The place is quiet old, there’s cockroaches in the kitchen and living room. Bed are moving so much that it’s like sleeping with your bed neighbour. However the location is good and the staff friendly and available
A very social accommodation with a perfect location near the beach and all major attractions.
Only stayed one night, staff were helpful organising late checkin information. location is great, 5 minute walk from lightrail. Large communal area was good. Dated interior but it adds to the quirkiness. appears to be alot of people staying longer term.
Great place for a relaxing stay. I liked the old style decor, the dorms are spacious, staff friendly, free surfboard rental, and good size kitchen / dining area however it was extremely hot in this area with no air flow or AC. I would stay again.
Actually loved this place more than I expected. Had a nice home feel. Great location and they offer so much free entertainment and gear.
massive hostel and not that many people, lots to do in building if you want a chill day you won’t be bored. beach is 30 second walk, pubs and restaurants around the corner. location is ideal, place is nice, people talk. showers not the cleanest but overall nice place
Overall a good place to stay!
Wasn’t impressed with the cleanliness and overall atmosphere which is a shame. There was a man walking round aimlessly with his dog. I love dogs, but would I want a dog walking round a hostel during my stay? I also spotted a man gut a raw fish on the kitchen surface (no chopping board), who couldn’t turn on the gas cooker. Left the gas running though. Bathrooms were manageable. Location was good and common room was nice. Wouldn’t rush back
YHA Newcastle was a lovely big hostel with lots of space and had an older feel to it (dated interior). The staff were very friendly and informative about what there is to do in Newcastle. The hostels location itself is perfect. However, due to it being such a big hostel it felt a bit empty at times and not very social, saying that I made some really good friends. The hostel always had a level of cleanliness to it. Overall, the hostel does the job and would stay again if I was to visit the area.
It was a really good hostel, well located, with the beach very near by foot. And also all supermarket, coffee places, restaurants. The staff was welcoming, warm and nice. The bedroom was as expected so nothing to say about that. I found it just a bit disappointing that they were not a lot of stuff organised by night. Still would recommend it.
Wouldn’t recommend staying here, no a/c in rooms says ceiling fans but it’s a small desk attached to wall which doesn’t reach the bunks and it was insanely hot. The bunks are old and make so much noise and no curtains. The bathrooms were disgusting smelt so bad and bins overflowed on to the floor all the time.the whole place smelt like mould. Strange atmosphere here with the guests didn’t feel safe as solo female traveller.
Best Hostel I stayed in on my east coast trip! Great common area, close to the beach and free surfboard rental
