Woodpecker Lodge Kuching

The bed was horrible, stabbed by springs in our sides. Very close to waterfront which was nice but there was no social environment here which is what we were looking for. There was an aircon in our room but they would not turn it on until we paid more for the room. Our room description never said no AC, should be more clear.

Location: Amazing & safe. By waterfront. Close to everything. Private room is affordable but nasty. Normally not a fusser but upon arrival, bed sheets had stains. Pillows inserts were gross - they’re lumpy, had yellow & black stains - I couldn’t use it. Fortunately, I brought my own sheet cover & towel. Shower/bathroom are a part of the room & gets musty. Doesn’t get the ventilation it needs (even w/ aircon on). Seemed more of a hassle to complain (that’s on me). Hope they’ll make ad...

Great location, good price, helpful staff, WiFi wasn’t really too strong/couldn’t connect to one of the extra networks for some reason, but it was alright otherwise!

Everything was great at the hostel and the people were very nice. The only downside was that the mattress in our room was quite uncomfortable. I don't know if that's the case everywhere, as they have a lot of rooms.

Super hébergement ! J'ai choisie une chambre seule avec la salle de bain. Le confort était parfait et proche du centre ville en 10 min à pied. Un 7-eleven se trouve à 3 min à pied. Pour se rendre au centre on peut longer les quais ce qui est très beau. Je vous conseille de goûter le Laksa dans l'espace food juste en dessous (quand vous sortez de l'hébergement, sur la gauche). Les boissons locales y sont aussi très bonnes !

I stayed in a private room. It was quite nice, had everything I need. The common area/kitchen had a constant smell of cats, due to the 3 cats that are on the property, so just be aware. No real atmosphere, as nothing organised to be social, and not a huge area in the kitchen/common area to hang or spend time. This wasn’t a huge issue for me, but just wanted to highlight for other people looking to stay.

I had a wonderful stay here! The owner was incredibly kind and helpful — he gave me great advice and assisted with planning my trips and transportation to Semenggoh and Bako National Park. The location is excellent as well; it’s just a pleasant walk along the waterfront to the city center. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Great hostel close to the waterfront. Check in was easy although it should be made clear in the booking that you can only pay with cash! Walking distance to the main area with cheap eats just down the road. The staff were super helpful with questions we had about our trip to the Bako National Park. There’s a great rooftop bar area, with a lovely view of the city!

I was arriving late (mid night flight) but they were super nice and kind helped me with self check in, during the my staying the dorm wasn’t available so I got free upgrade to private room which is cool ! The location is good too , downstairs you’ll be able to find many food options !

Great place, great food downstairs and loved the river view from the shower window I needed to see a doctor and the manager happily sorted out options for me So thankful for that Thank you

Very small single rooms, but they are kept clean and the price is good. I would have liked it if the rooms were equipped with small electric kettles. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only drawback is that the hostel is a bit far from the city's main attractions.

The proprietor very kindly let me upgrade to an aircon room when I found the basic room stifling as its only windows were in the bathroom. Thanks, Oliver! P.S. Loved the 3 fluffy kitties 😻
