Port Macquarie Backpackers

I wouldn’t recommend going there. I felt unsafe waiting for my night bus and they charged me extra for staying longer even though I had asked before. Rooms weren’t nice and the other people in the hostel didn’t make me feel welcome

I will never stay there again.

They claim it a beautiful old house, with a very nice atmosphere! YES..it's old, worn out, messy and not well maintained. It seems to be run by random volunteering backpackers, who had very less knowledge of cleaning and hygiene! I had booked a private room and expected a bit of comfort. It showed up as a bunk bed room for 8, where they then just didn't put any other guests. No light at the bed, no table or a proper chair - not even a mirror in the room! The bathroom was ugly!

Staff were so lovely and helpful! However the hostel was dirty, flies covering the kitchen and lots of long term guests making it feel a bit unwelcoming

We had a two night stay at Park Maguire backpackers in the 10 bed dorm( which apparently turned out to be the staff dorm) the dorm was very messy clothes everywhere including dirty underwear on the floor and vey dusty large cobwebs hanging over the bed.When I arrived I had no pillow on my bed and there was half eaten chocolate bar on my bed which made me feel unsure whether my bed was even clean. very noisy through out the night with the kitchen open and partying till 3am

This felt less like a backpacker hostel and more like a long-term residential place for workers and travellers. There was no air conditioning, and the Wi-Fi barely worked in the garden. I also didn’t feel comfortable due to the lack of cleanliness. I honestly don’t understand how this hostel has such a high rating.

Kleine kamers waardoor lastig spullen kwijt te kunnen. Kamers zijn erg heet zonder airco of een goede fan, alleen een kleine plafond ventilator. Positief punt, er worden ‘s ochtends wel gratis pannenkoeken gebakken. Helaas veel jonge mensen die vroeg opstaan om te gaan werken en daardoor veel onnodig lawaai maken. Kosten hostel zijn aan de hoge kant voor de kwaliteit die je krijgt.

Había en general un buen ambiente, pero algunos detalles me dejaron un poco perplejo. La recepción abre a las 17, y aunque si llegas antes puedes quedarte en la zona común, no hay check in. Los baños son un poco improvisados y con paredes de lata,la temperatura de la ducha es difícil de regular (al final la tomé fría): en resumen, no agradable. This place really felt like being welcomed into a home! Great atmosphere, everyone was friendly and social. The staff were lovely to talk to and were very willing to give recommendations for things to do in the area. The communal spaces were busy and it felt easy to join in with activities. The kitchen had a few flies buzzing around, and you have to lock the dorm doors manually which some people might not be comfortable with. If I’m ever back in the area I will definitely be staying again!

Overall a great stay. Staff, location, facilities were all perfect and the 24hr self check in is perfect for those who arrive on the late bus just down the road. And who doesn’t love free pancakes for breakfast!! The hostel could definitely could be cleaner but everything else makes up for it!

Overall a lovely hostel that feels quite homey - has a living room where the staff invite you to play Nintendo, and a pool table room. The kitchen is nice and the free pancakes are great. Staff & volunteers make you feel very welcome! Only negatives are it’s a 15 min walk out of the town and some of the facilities / furniture could do with updating like the sofas are really old and you can’t swim in the pool but other than that fab hostel :)

Such a nice feel to the hostel, everyone was friendly and willing to chat. The pancake breakfast was amazing and all the facilities were cleaned regularly. I would absolutely go back!

Had a great stay at this hostel. Was very clean and the staff were so helpful and lovely to chat to making it a welcoming atmosphere. Super close to shops and transport spots and great location for the beach walks

I was only going to stay here one night but ended up extending as I loved it here and felt super relaxed. Christian was a great host who helped me settle in and was fun to be around. The other guests at the hostel were very nice too and pancakes were a massive hit in the mornings. Would definitely recommend this place!

I consider that it is a nice place to stay for a couple of nights. It is a small hostel with according common areas and a free parking site that is a highlight if you have a car. The cleanliness was not the best, specially at the bedroom that the guys living there have a mess. However, I can recommend the hostel to enjoy a short stay in the city.

Clean facilities, helpful staff. Very homey feel to it.

Good out of hours check in process, 10 min walk to bus station. Staff and live in guests were warm and it was really helpful that we could use communal facilities and leave bags there while waiting for busses. Unfortunately the bathroom was pretty dirty when I arrived and it needs a refurb (one of the taps kept coming off the sink, toilet seat peeling etc). The mattress also had a big dent in that was uncomfortable. Fine for a quick stop on an east coast trip

Absolutely love Port Macquarie Backpackers, feels like you a part of a family! My second visit, I will always stay here when passing through here!

small hostel, close to the greyhound busstop, very limited fridge space (literally no space for my things, I needed to split them up), no lockable storage room, you need to pay a few dollars to stay after 6pm, kind of far away from the town centre/beach (there is a bus though), kitchen was small too (taps were anoying), affordable single room was nice!

I had a great stay at here!! The owner is genuinely one of the kindest and most helpful people I’ve met during my travels. From the moment I arrived, I felt really welcomed and supported. What really stood out was how much he went out of his way to help us. he even helped fix our car when we were having trouble. That kind of support meant so much to us and made a stressful situation so much easier. Whenever you have questions or needed help, he will be always there.

Lovely and friendly place to stay. Very sociable hostel and easy to make friends. The long term stayers were very welcoming too. Special thank you to Ben (owner) for making our short stay in PM very special!

Staff were the friendliest of all the hostels I’ve ever been to. Nice, clean hostel with a pool and sociable atmosphere. Would stay again!
