Why Not Hostel

NOT A GOOD HOSTEL FOR GIRLS. My friend and I stayed here for three nights and, at first, were welcomed into an empty yet friendly and clean hostel. After a party, one of the guys working at the hostel and a friend he'd invited into the hostel got too flirtatious and touchy, and were upset when we refused them. They made us very uncomfortable, even becoming violent with a male friend of ours. 1/5 review, not sure why it says it's 2 stars, I put 1 on everything. Do not stay here as a girl.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The people were very nice and welcoming and the place was clean!

We had the best !! time at Why Not Hostel. My friend and me stayed there for four nights and Bunty and Bunda helped us out wherever we needed it and also were great company. As two girls traveling alone it was great finding a spot where we felt 100% safe. The location is great, good footspots + beaches you can walk to. Eliza and Georgia also did a great job with volunteering at the hostel. We’re already looking forward to come back soon and would recommend it a 100%!!!

We stayed one night (3 people) in January and wouldn’t recommend it. The hostel was nearly empty and the vibe felt strange and unsocial, very different from the photos online. Staff seemed uninterested, played loud music, and even invited friends over, which made it uncomfortable. Beds were cheap and there were many mosquitoes. The pool is nice, but that’s it. A tense situation around our taxi ride also made us feel unsafe. We found much better hostels nearby.

We had a random message in the middle of the night before we were meant to check in from an unknown number telling us to cancel our booking. Weird vibes from staff, wouldn’t recommend for female solo travellers.

Did not feel safe for female travellers, predatory staff/local clientele drunk or high most of the time and too pushy to spend time with female guests. No wifi, couldn’t use the pool because didn’t feel comfortable in front of above mentioned reason

It smelled bad. The shower was so cold. We didn’t like the atmosphere. There were stains on the bed. We checked out three days earlier

This is a party hostel where the music continues until 4:00 a.m. When you ask them to turn the music down, they do not listen. The Sri Lankan men working there seem to focus mainly on female guests and appear to be trying to get them into bed. They don’t care about other things and it was not a nice stay..

I had a really nice stay at this hostel and think it deserves more recognition. I felt comfortable and safe the whole time, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is very social, making it easy to meet other travelers and feel at home. A great place if you’re looking for a relaxed, friendly environment!

I tried three hostels in Mirissa and this one was the best: good location, swimming pool, and helpful hosts.

Good hostel, lots of social space and games. The host Chevin is class guy. Highly recommend. However be wary that the food can sometimes take a while as it comes from a restaurant elsewhere.

Best hostel in Sri Lanka. The Staff is really caring and friendly, the hostel itself is great especially the backyard with the bar and pool. Stayed there for a week.

Loved our stay here, really friendly vibe and the staff couldn’t do enough to help. Hot showers and A/C too which was a nice plus!

Warnung – gesundheitsschädlicher Schimmel und vernachlässigtes Hostel! Ich musste nach einer Nacht abreisen, da ich kaum noch Luft bekam. Das Zimmer war stark verschimmelt und roch intensiv. Auch die anderen Zimmer rochen muffig. In den Zimmern blättert der Putz von den Wänden, offenbar wird nur über den Schimmel gestrichen. Der Pool ist vernachlässigt, mit offenen Kabeln und kaputten Fliesen. Fazit: Freundliches Personal, aber gesundheitsschädlich und nicht empfehlenswert.
