Bad review because they charge me twice and wont give me a refund. Been emailing and calling, always said they will handle it soon. never happen.

The air conditioner was not working, even though we specifically paid for a room with A/C. When we brought this up to the manager, the response was completely unacceptable — they said that “most places don’t have air conditioners, so you don’t really need it.” That is outrageous. Great for anyone who enjoys adventure, discomfort, and feeling like they're living in a weird, bad dream. Would I stay here again? Only if I’m looking to build some character or test my patience!

Condescending manager at the property. The AC broke down on a hot and humid night around 11pm. Minutes earlier, everyone working at the hostel had been dealing with a non-stop beeping fire alarm. When I asked for help, the manager refused and said, “I’m sorry, this is how the world works.” Homeless man screaming outside at 5am. No staff wanted to get involved, so the guest had to step in. Cleanliness was an issue. Sheets felt they weren’t fully cleaned. For $116/night for a hostel is pricey especially for the room not being as secure. We found a gecko lying above the bed which we had to relocate. Thinking that was it. Once we got back to our room for the evening we found another larger gecko. In the next morning we found ants on us upon waking up. Even though we didnt have food in the room as started per the rules. Woke up with bites and rashes on both forearms after leaving.

no laundry facility, when asked, they do ur laundry, but it is no priority. gave them my laundry at 8 am, it was not done til 8pm. the kitchen and common area very small. so many workers using area and seemed to be in the way. there is not proper security for rooms. door was always unlocked, even when i would lock it each time. when i conffronted a worker, they basically told me not my problem. i suggested placing a sign on door to male sure ppl locked it. the lady acted like i was a hassel.

Very expensive considering it’s not in a convenient location. Rooms fine but basic and limited toilets and showers. Not many comfortable shared areas to sit in.

My Hawaii Hostel is in a great location. We were a group a 3 staying in a 4 person dorm. Only problem was the 4th person snored louder than I’ve ever in my life! No one was able to sleep. This was our 1st day on the island after a long travel day so everyone was miserable. I wouldn’t normally fault the hostel for this, but we were told at check in this person is a regular who lives on the other side of the island drives uber & stays frequently.

Well firstly please have the rules you input an had everyone sign be done and not overlooked. There is mold in the bathroom there was mold on my pillow I mean my pillow was yellow. I am very sensitive to mold so my sinuses was acting up. They didn’t check me out when I did check out which was Oct 17 2025 at 11:17am. Because it was showing I was still at the hostel. The rules says no pets I don’t have no problem with animals but abide by your rules. The noise level no respected

I would say this hostel is a good value for your money - especially for Hawaii. However upon checking in they changed my booking without letting me know beforehand (I did not receive an email notifying me or anything) so I was blindsided when they told me I was staying in a mixed dorm (I originally booked a female dorm). My criticism is for the managers, invest in a better tool that will manage your booking to avoid situations like that. The location is great, but definitely should rent a car

essentially none of the doors get locked and people walk in and out that are not staying in the hostel because it is right by the bus stop. people were very nice though and it's in a nice location though you still have to drive to lots and there's only 8 parking spots on site

Buenas instalaciones y personal muy amable y atento. La pega que le pongo es que las camas no tengan una cortina para mayor privacidad.

Nice facility and provides a bed for a very reasonable rate in a great location in Kona. Didn’t get much sleep but not the fault of the facility, a fellow Traveller in the dorm style accommodation was a loud sleep talker throughout the night which is not something the hostel should have to keep under control.

Sehr sauberes, gemütliches Hostel, in dem ich mich vom ersten Moment an wohl und sicher gefühlt habe. Die Ausstattung ist top, besonders die gut ausgestattete Küche. Bei meiner Ankunft gab es sogar ein St. Patrick’s Day Dinner mit kostenlosem Essen und Drinks für alle Gäste! Das Personal ist unglaublich lieb, hilfsbereit und aufmerksam. Man fühlt sich hier eher wie zu Hause als in einem Hostel. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Lovely hostel with a great location next to Magic Beach.

The place was nice. The storage offered was adequate. The mattress was comfortable too. Good stay overall. The bathroom floors could be improved.

Great money for the value! A bit far from downtown Kona-Kailua but the bus station right in front ( free bus every hour) Great kitchen facilities with lots of storage space , including fridge space ! Well organized! Free coffee / tea / fresh water … Recommend for a budget stay!

Sehr sauberes Hostel, mit guten Matratzen und viel Space für Koffer etc. Außerdem endlich mal wirklich genug Haken, um seinen Stuff aufzuhängen. Alle super freundlich. Bushaltestelle direkt vor der Tür. Strand nur 1 Mile zu laufen.

Wir buchten einen Private-Room. Das Zimmer und das Bett waren relativ klein. Das Bad und die Küche mussten geteilt werden. Insgesamt war der Preis dafür etwas zu hoch. Die Lage war ok, aber leider direkt an einer Straße. Die Sauberkeit hat aber voll gepasst und die Mitarbeiter waren super freundlich, hilfsbereit und gesprächig. Konnten auch gegen eine geringe Gebühr unsere Wäsche waschen lassen.

Incredible first hostel experience! I felt safe and comfortable the entire time and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend staying here!

Someone stole my stuff from the fridge and check in was awfully slow.

I enjoyed my stay in Kona at the My Hawaii Hostel. The staff were friendly and so were the other guests. Really appreciated the free beach towel check out! One drawback is the Hostel is very open (exterior stairs and hallways) and is directly in front of a bus stop, so if you have to use the bathroom everyone waiting for the bus can see you in pajamas. Something to keep in mind.

Everything about this Hostel I loved, the people, the community, location, the environment, it was such a warm and welcoming space, would go back in a heartbeat!
