Great location in downtown Ottawa but very subpar facilities. Very expensive, compared to other Canadian hostels, for what you get. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7:30pm so you miss it if you have an early morning. Exterior entrance is filthy. Would not stay here again.
Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel was an amazing stay, I would definitely come back next time im in Ottawa.
On Friday night, the music was audible until about 11:20 or so. On Saturday the sound stopped promptly at 11:00. I didn't expect to hear music in my cell. Everything else was fantastic, exactly what I expected. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, bed clean and comfortable, bathrooms modern and clean. Staff and guests were friendly. The jail tour was very interesting. YES, I would stay here again and YES I would recommend the hostel. This was my first time at this hostel and I was very pleased.
Loved this stay. The retrofit is really well done, without losing the character and history of the place. You can roll on out to the adjacent arts court to enjoy coffee at Jackson, and continue to visit the art gallery. Loved this stay. Saintlo!
Such a unique and memorable hostel. Definitely worth going to Ottawa for a night or two, just to stay here. Great area and friendly staff. Place was pretty clean for the size of the building. Private rooms were good value. Jail is caked full of history, so the tour was cool too. If I'm ever in Ottawa again, I would definitely be willing to stay here again.
Such a lovely hostel! It was cool to stay somewhere so interesting and I thought they did a great job of educating about the history of the jail and integrating signs and artefacts. It was clean, beds were comfy, getting towels was a plus, there were good cooking facilities and the breakfast was great. 5-min walk from the Rideau station and Byward market. Special kudos to Ariel for the fab hostel tour! Would have been nice to have privacy curtains, and better ways to air out the room!
I stayed in the single jail cell, which was great if you don’t mind small spaces, however it should be noted that the doors have an open space with bars at the bottom and top, nothing too large. I wasn’t worried about someone looking in but more because the hallways are made to echo I could hear everything outside and it was very noisy and not everyone would stick to the quiet times. However the location was great, right next to the O trains and by ward market

You definitely can’t beat the facilities or the location! The place has so much to offer, including a fully fitted big kitchen, lots of breakfast available for free, clean showers as well as private work pods to work from home. Additionally, the location is amazing, with it being so close to many attractions. It’s only a short 5 minute walk to Byward Market and less than 10 minutes to the Parliament buildings. Staff were lovely, and the place was kept very clean! Would recommend

- The restrooms were dirty. The guests' belongings were all strewn across the floor because there weren't even the smallest lockers.

+ The authentic jailhouse is so cool ! Bed was comfortable, staff exceptionally friendly, very clean, showers very clean etc.
- Very small rooms. Not luxurious at all.

- La douche n'est vraiment pas pratique ni accessible. Il faisait un peu froid dans les chambres.

+ Parfait emplacement downtown Ottawa près des attractions, des commerces et des restaurants. Endroit idéal pour un séjour dans la capitale nationale. Excellent rapport qualité / prix.
- Le manque de savoir vivre de certains usagers. J’ai vu certaines personnes profiter du fait qu’il n’y ait aucune surveillance lors du petit déjeuner pour se servir généreusement dans le buffet en prévision de leur déjeuner (lunch) et que d’autres mangeaient en visionnant des vidéos avec le son à tut tête comme s’ils étaient seul au monde.

+ I like the professionalism of the staff. The cleanliness, the bathrooms, the kitchen, all the common places are always clean.
- Some of the guests have no respect, and consideration for the other guests. Unfortunately, that has nothing to do with the establishment.
