Funk Bunks - Sigiriya

the bed below me and in the dorm next door had bed bugs but the staff seemed to have taken this pretty seriously as they put the mattresses out and deep cleaned the affected beds. Power and wifi went out for about 7 hours and the region has spotty 5G. ground on the bathroom stalls always has giant puddle so the bottom of pants get wet. lining outside shower is fake grass that it always wet. Conditions normal of other Sri Lankan hostels though. Staff is friendly and cares. Breakfast is very good

The staff was really nice and helpful, and the accommodation is very close to Pidurangala Rock. However, for the price we paid, we were not happy with the cleanliness of the “Deluxe Private Bedroom”. The room and the towels had a slightly unpleasant smell, and overall the price - performance ratio did not feel appropriate.

Nice Hostel, close to pidurangala and lion rock. Event tho the hostel is quite big and seemed very social when booking it with different activities offered but in the end it was very quiet and as the location is a bit outside it was hard to get around by yourself. Especially at night you're not allowed to leave by foot or bike as there are a lot of elephants outside the place. rooms were quite small, restrooms and breakfast ok, but for the price I expected better.

De locatie was gewoon echt niet chill. Ver uit het centrum waardoor je in de avond moeilijk een dure tuktuk kan regelen. Verder was het hostel niet super sociaal, maar misschien vooral door weinig boekingen. Er werken wel hele lieve mensen.

Pros: amazing staff (shout out to Nishan), bicycles available, ground keeping staff keep the grounds spotless, meals included* Cons: *the meals were generally tasty but rarely had a source of protein so we were left hungry and ate somewhere else one night. The breakfast was generally great but dinner wasn’t substantial enough for us. No Wi-Fi in private room. Shower was warm but our shower head wasn’t working properly

Fun hostel to stay at - cool vibes. However, dirty bathrooms and no wifi in the rooms. Also keep in mind you cannot easily leave the premises at night. Food is included which was quite nice, but also a bit mid.

Brilliant hostel which provides free breakfast and dinner, can rent bicycles here for cheap, staff are really friendly and can organise everything would recommend

Stayed in a private room. It was clean enough with hot water in the shower, and the bed was comfortable. I do think the room could use a fresh coat of paint so it didn’t look older, but overall reasonable for location. Off the main road and you will need to have a tuk tuk grab you or you can use one of the bikes on the property. Host was kind and organized our jeep safari and arranged a tuk tuk for us to go to dinner and do a hike. Breakfast and dinner included!

I've been in plenty of sh*t hostels with sh*t bathrooms, this was the first great hostel with sh*t bathrooms! Seriously - VENTILATION Aside from this, we loved our time at Funk Bunks. Beds are solid and comfy. Nice social vibe but still respectful of the many pre-sunrise alarms. Shared space and meals all great. Location is a bit remote but we didn't have any issue getting tuktuks, or with elephants. Samit and Loku are so lovely, very hospitable and great to have an Arrack with! Thank you guys!

Really enjoyed our stay. Great place to relax. We had private ensuite with pool, which was nice but not really worth it as the water was very cold. We used it twice but only to take a hot shower afterwards. Maybe it’s more nice when hotter outside. Although it felt very luxurious, and the room was beautiful. Food was always good. I recommend you rent bikes to get around!

Great stay with very helpful staff and a great place to meet people

We had a great stay. The location is great, we loved being a bit further out in the quiet. There is lots of seating to hang out, although hammocks still pending. The guys are so friendly, a tuk tuk is only 500 from them into the village. Bikes for hire are great to explore the lakes and lanes. Our private room was huge and dorms looked nice. The free family dinner and breakfast were perfect, they bring everyone together who has been out in the day and was very social. Beautiful

Such a lovely hostel, great location! Really good if you like being out in nature. Free breakfast and dinner were delicious and staff were extremely friendly and helpful :) Rooms were also clean and beds were comfortable. would highly recommend!!

Really lovely secluded hostel. Very small and family feel in the jungle of sigiriya. They had bikes available and it was only a 20 minute cycle into the centre. They also arranged a sunrise hike and safari for us which were amazing. Beds were really comfy and clean. Had a great stay here!

Situated far from the city center so no pick mes or ubers will come. Reception will call one for you to go into town for about 500 rupees. Free dinner and breakfast, but just plain sri lanken food. They have a small cafe to buy water or meals. The bathroom was incredibly moist and humid, and the toilet stalls were tiny. Floors were flooded and ants all over. Free shampoo/shower gel. AC in rooms but I think mine had bed bugs or mites as I had a bunch of little bites on me after staying here.

We had an amazing stay at funk bunks! We stayed for 3 nights. The hostel is located a bit outside the main Sigiriya area. It very close to the Pidurangala Rock. The Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner buffet were extremely delicious! The dorms are small but very well organized and clean. The hostles perimeters are amazing, it’s like a green oasis, amazing for spending an afternoon in the shade of the many trees. It is possible to rent bikes and explore the surrounding - which we loved very much.

Erg leuk hostel, lief persoon. Suranga, Loku en Samith hebben goed meegedacht met vervoer en andere dingen. Een minder ding vond ik dat het hier in de avond wel rustig is op sociaal gebied.

A lovely, cozy space in the middle of nowhere but still perfect to get to lions rock and pindungala rock in 5 min. The beds were very cozy, the personnel extremely friendly andthe included breakfast and dinner was also amazing! We very much appreciated the driver that showed us the area and had some lovely local tips and knowledge. We were happy to spend a night here before trawling further north.

Amazing!! Very cozy hostel surrounded by forest, inviting to hang out outside. Clean, cozy beds and great Sri Lanka breakfast and dinner. The hosts are more than happy to assist with activity planning and we felt very well taken care of.

Me and my friend slept in the private rooms, and it was great. The host is the most friendly guy ever. He came with great suggestions about transport and adventures. Would 100% recommend. :)

Had a great stay!

Staff was nice, breakfast and dinner buffet was great! It’s a bit far out so you’ll always need ti catch a ride (at least after 5pm because if the elephants). Unfortunately we had bed bugs (mid/end February 2026) in our dorm. They were taking care of the situation when we left, so it might be better now.

Had a great time, place was lovely, my boyfriend even left his waterproof jacket behind and they managed to coordinate a fellow traveller who was heading to the same destination where we were heading to drop off the Jacket. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Sigiriya, thank you so much!
