- Dirty sheets on bed. Loud, disrespectful guests. Bed bugs.

+ It's a 10 to 15 minute walk to Central Station and CBD, close to a small shopping center with Kmart and Coles that open until 12am and park with buses at the front. The staff were kind but when canceling the room for me even offered free laundry service due to the bed bugs, they were helpful at the start but then told me I had to process the refund myself 3 days later after saying they would do process it for me and I would get back within the week.

- I hated almost everything about this accommodation, the facilities were all extremely old and dirty, they looked nothing like the pictures on booking.com. I booked a private double bed and the bed had bedbugs which is a health and safety hazard. There are only 2 tiny sinks in the female toilets which along with the all gender showers were old and filthy. It is also hard to sleep/rest as there is no soundproofing so you can basically hear everything everyone is doing. The hallways are filled with suitcases, shoes, dirty clothes etc even though there are signs stating not to leave stuff in the hallways. The door also wouldn’t open/close properly. The wifi also didn’t work.

- Tiny, crowded and smelly room. ( Other similar hotels such as YHA and 790 George St have much bigger and cleaner rooms) Very dirty quilt. ( Yellow stain inside, smells like urine) Extremely uncomfortable / old/ hard spring cell bed .( Worst bed I had ever slept on ). The smoke alarm is not properly installed.( I think this is illegal in Australia.) Air-conditioning will automatically turn off at night, making the room hotter and more smelly. Stayed 2 nights, barely slept.

- the property smelled like mildew, stale urine and sewage, there was very little room in the dorms and almost none in the kitchen, I had to store my food on the floor and there were cockroaches.

- The person at the reception was strangely rude. Perhaps having a bad day?

+ Pictures did not correspond reality, property is not well maintained, pretty old with no isolation, so its hard to sleep in the night while other people party out at the common areas until very late (3am-4am). Toilet stinks and very poor maintenance. It really looks like a dormitory not even a proper hostel. Very Noisy

+ The are so many positive reviews because they offer free laundry if you write a review and I feel deceived from this reviews staying here as your likely to write a good review for an incentive. This place is completely worn down and not worth the value. Every step you take is the loudest creek you'll ever hear.

- Common area is always filled with people screaming and yelling until 2AM since reception end at 8PM. The walls are so thin you can hear every conversation across the hall or in the rooms next to you. The kitchen smelled so bad every time you entered, I'm not sure how people thought it was sanitary to cook in there - are they not smelling it? I am not making it up when I say I saw a bug in the kitchen & that is because you are allowed to keep food in the kitchen and I'm sure there are a lot of expired foods just sitting there. Additionally, what is ironic is that some rooms will have a sign outside the door that says, "this room is SMELLY" and how the roommates should manage the smell - lol what? Of course the roommates should be clean but proper house keeping would also help mitigate the smell throughout the whole hostel. I've stayed so many different hostels that are much cleaner and much more well-maintained, offering way more value in amenities, including having some decorum

+ Free gym passes to Anytime Fitness, fun nightly events, and very friendly staff! The hostel is in a great location close to Victoria Park and Broadway Shopping Centre.

+ Located near to a major shopping centre and walkable to cafes and restaurants. Thick duvet, comfy pillow.

- Seems there are lots of people living long term in this hostel, the room was an absolute tip when I arrived, clothes, shoes, rubbish everywhere, smelt horrible, drains blocked in the showers, regardless of it being Easter there were big gaps of time where there was no-one to check anyone in, and the lovely Italian lady Arianne had to do lots of checking in, giving gym passes to people and going above and beyond her role and care of duty! This needs to be recognised! Lots of people singing in the corridors till 1am, when there’s a common room downstairs. I’ve stayed in many hostels (I’m 54, solo traveller so used to the youngsters in hostels) but the complaints about Mad Monkey seem to be true sadly.

- Bed bunks. Staff did not really react. It spreaded everywhere. No 24/7 reception service. No reception available on public holidays. Kitchen way too small.
