The Barrel Hostel

Ich würde dem Hostel gerne 0 Sterne geben, ist aber nicht möglich. Personal war mehr als unfreundlich, Bettzeug hat geschimmelt und war leicht feucht. Im Dach lebte eine zwölfköpfige Fledermaus Familie. Die Küche war widerlich aber das schlimmste war, es hat mir auf den Kopf geregnet (ich lag im unteren Bett…) Rette sich wer kann!

This place shouldn’t be operating. The staff is rude. The kitchen is terrible. There were multiple people that got sick after eating there. As well as myself. I thought it was a good deal but come to find out there is literal bats living in the roof and defecate on the floor of the dorm. Which is probably the reason I’ve been feeling sick since I got here.

Do not go to this Hostel! The rooms are full of Bat shit and they don't give a f**k about it. The staff is extremely unfriendly and they charge 3 USD for 1,5 L of water.

Gross hostel. 20 + people in one room with only one bathroom. People were having s** in the dorm. Toilet and shower were nasty. I backpack a lot and this was the worst hostel I’ve ever been in.

Les personnages sont pas du tout gentils. M’ont chargé plus que le reste de mon groupe pour la même chambre et ne voulaient absolument pas me rendre l’argent. En général pas sympathique du tout

The hostel itself had a great location on the beach, but I found the staff very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Overall it felt more like a restaurant with a hostel dorm attached to it, so there was no social vibe at all. I also didn’t like that they didn’t have free water, but charged airport prices for a bottle.

Unfortunately the worst hostel I’ve stayed at. The dorm stunk of dogs, pillows covered in mould and ants in my friend’s bed. 12 people sharing one dirty bathroom. The location is good because its on the beach but no soft surface to sit on. The staff were not friendly or helpful. I don’t believe they invest any money back into the hostel and it is not a cheap stay…there are better places which are not on hostel world

The night I arrived, they gave me someones bed. So at the time, I wanted to go to sleep, my bed was taken, and the reception was closed. No bed for me.. When I told them about it in the morning, they were just laughing with it. In general the staff was super unfriendly to tourists. Also the kitchen stuff was gross (egg crusts in pans, mold in the fridge,…)

They cancelled the reservation one night before arriving and did not reimburse the down payment (after inquiring several times). Not quite the service you’d expect to say the least.

Kitchen is super dirty and reeks of mold with ants everywhere. Food is very expensive and subpar, with the beds being dirty I would not recommend this hostel when there are many others for the same price and offer more. Owner is very unhelpful. But it's right on the beach which is nice..

One of my favorite hostels in Central America. The rooms are great for the price and it’s right on the beach. Only hostel with a kitchen, social vibes are chill. The staff is very accommodating and always there to answer questions.

Perfect beachy vibe, really cheap. There’s not so much space in the dorm. Small locker, can only put your daily backpack. Need to put the big one below the bed. The bathroom in the dorm is not practical at all, no shelf or hook. The restaurant is PRICY for tourists… It cost us 43 USD for 2 burgers with couple of fries & 2 margaritas…. There’s a kitchen whith a fridge, but good luck find ustensils. Not really clean both in the dorms & kitchen, but the beds are okay.

It was better than I expected beacause of the bad ratings. The staff was kind, and the bed clean and comfortable. Its true that ihs basicaly a 24 bed dorm, but I didn’t reay realize it because everyone was always very slient and respectful. The bathroom was not super nice and there was no place to put your things. But even it was only one bathroom for the whole dorm there was almost never a queue. For the price its okay.

Ett bra hostel som ligger precis intill stranden samt har stor ytan där man kan sitta och chilla, ligga i hängmatta eller sola. Priserna i restaurangen är dock ganska dyra. Bra wifi och rent! Däremot bodde vi 22 personer i ” ett ” rum och delade i princip på en toalett och dusch, så det var lite negativt.

I don’t get why the reviews are so bad. As long as you can put up with the rude staff, it’s absolutely fine. Nothing fancy, but for the price it’s defo worth it

Super basic hostel, no vibe, personel is super grumpy, bad facilities. 12 bed dorm is more like 22 beds. It is more on the cheaper side tho. Heard from others they got food poisoning as well.

Cheep and cheerful, only one shower and toilet for a big dorm. I have stayed multiple times. Would go back again.

There was no water station so you had to buy water, you can hear the bats most of the night but we stayed in the 6 bed dorm which wasn’t too bad but we know people who stayed in the 12 bed and they did see bats in the room. The kitchen is very small but when it’s clean it is not too bad, good location on the beach but wouldn’t stay here for longer than a few days. Good location for popoyos secret as the pick up is just down the road, also no atms so take cash

F4ck die 5,8 rating. Ik heb me hier echt fantastisch vermaakt. Oké het is dan wel geen party hostel of iets wat veel activiteiten onderneemt, maar hier kan je wel oprecht met mensen socializen en een mooi hecht groepje maken. De mensen aan de bar zijn ook gewoon maar aan het werk en ze doen het goed en als je er wat langer tegen praat zijn ze net een lieve schoonmoeder. -wc papier is top hier -je kan lekker aan de bar blowen en een biertje drinken -toplocatie -ze maken iedere dag schoon

Bon hostel à Popoyo, le lieux est très beau, a deux pas de l’ocean.

my ideal surf hostel, no bs just cheap and simple relaxed atmosphere for hardcore chilling when you're not in the water, food here isnt the cheapest but its close to everything on guasacate. if you want a jammed full party hostel and fancy s**t this isn't the spot for you

We loved the barrel, really lovely deck, perfect place for surfers and the dorm felt like a sleepover. Everyone gets a fan and we had a balcony over the beach. Bathroom was exceptionally clean for the amount of people :)

Believe the bad reviews, we didn’t! To start, I want to say that we the staff were overworked (same people working all day for the 4 days we were there) which is probably why they can be off. The check in was disorganised, the kitchen is terrible, the bed had debris on it (not sure of what!), and there was only one bathroom for a 22 person dorm!! There is also no free water, and the atmosphere is just a bit weird because the common area is also a restaurant. However it is right on the beach.
