Hostel Memphis

Hazel, the manager was so lovely and welcoming. Unfortunately no continental breakfast as advertised. The hostel is pretty run down but clean and basic. Nice atmosphere. RAs pretty unfriendly!!!

Pros: we were able to get a private room, and the bedding was clean. staff was nice and helpful.individual bathrooms were also available. Cons: the property is in need of repairs and maintenance. overall would recommend this place

This property left a lot to be desired… The hostel is at the top of a fairly empty, run down building. We had a private room that had a pin-code for entry, but we weren’t sure if that code ever got changed so it felt like anyone who had stayed in that room before could probably waltz right into our room. The shower had a lot of mould. Check in was easy with the codes emailed to you but they made us come back the next day from 11-7 to scan our passports - can’t we just email these instead??

We arrived after the office closed. The instructions to get in were good. The bed sheets were very dirty...hair was all over them and there was a soiled spot on the side of the bed where it looked like someone sat. The sink had food sitting in the trap and the kitchen trash was mostly full. The place looked deserted and there was no interaction between guests.

If you are looking for a ‘hostel environment’ then I’d say this is not what you should be looking for, I’m a young solo traveller that was going through Memphis and didn’t feel comfortable here at all. It was very quiet, almost too quiet, it felt like nobody was there at all. I was never introduced to the staff nor were greeted by them in any way, I felt like I was sneaking around the place when I was making breakfast or getting ready to go out as it was dead quiet. They did have bagel...

I had a good stay. Great neighborhood. Friendly helpful staff. Wasn’t super Clean.. I had a private room…dirt and hair on the baseboard ledges and something splattered up a wall..could use a deep cleaning…the mattress cover needed to be laundered as well. Showers are pretty rough. Maybe about $20 more per night than it should be given all that. But the kitchen was spotless. And the common areas were pleasant.

Whether you love this hostel will depend on what you’re looking for. If you want to be downtown near tourist sites, this hostel isn’t. Building is old but clean, located in a progressive, artsy neighborhood called Cooper Young with a bookstore, local coffee shops, restaurants. Safe & walkable. Want to meet other travelers? This is a good hostal – lovely big kitchen and the shared bathrooms are ok with good hot water. No laundry facility. Out private room was quite small the bed was comfortable, but nowhere at all to put anything. The hostal is 4 miles out of town in a nice area with lots of bars and restaurants but the difficulty is getting into downtown Memphis. In theory there are buses but they often don’t turn up. Uber is $10–$15 daytime and $20–$25 night time. Good local breakfast at Barkdales.

Easy to get to but still far out from downtown so you will need to get transportation. Everyone was lovely however the place needs a lot of repairs. Cracked tiles, leaking showers and taps, one had no cold water handle. I was put in a 12 bed room when i had booked 6 however that didn’t bother me too much as 3/4 of my nights i was alone in my room which I enjoyed. A friend was told the lockers don’t work but I was given one and it locked properly. I’m not sure how the stars are so high.

Convenient, safe, and budget-friendly accommodations in the heart of a popular/ trendy neighborhood. Walk to coffee shops, book stores, several restaurants, entertainment venues and miscellaneous shopping. The building is old and the age is apparent, but it is well maintained, clean, and value priced. Staff is supportive and welcoming. I've stayed here several times and I always enjoy it. It's perfect for exploring all over Midtown.

Timing is everything, I was fortunate but also a little unfortunate. I think when I stayed, I was the only guest. Both great because I had the whole comfortable room to myself but it was also weird. The staff and RA I met were welcoming. Would I stay again, Heck Yeah.

Outstanding! What a great experience! I just suggest fixing the lighting at the downstairs entrance. It was concerning when I arrived.

Pros: Hostel is in a fantastic location, loved the cooper young area. Felt comfortable being there with a nice number of showers and toilets all private and very clean. Common rooms were comfortable and really easy to catch an uber downtown. Great BBQ place opposite as well as bars. Cons: Staff were okay, felt a little awkward to talk to at times but they were friendly. Bed wasn’t the greatest and the creakiest floorboards I’ve ever heard! No locking cupboards/draws/cages in the bedrooms...

Great place but it's not near downtown. Cooper Young where the hostel is located is neat and vibrant. Memphis' public transit is VERY lacking.

I had a wonderful time. The hostel is in a good location in a great neighborhood. It was very clean & comfortable. The staff is excellent & wanted to make sure I had an enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this hostel!!

Nice quiet place. Good overall facilities and plenty of space.

Cool hostel well curated. Free breakfast available. The neighborhood is very cool with a lot of local shops, restaurant and breweries. Def the best in town. Need a uber/bus to go to downtown tho.

A very nice hostel, good facilities, located in a nice neighbourhood with cafes, bars and restaurants. It was very quiet when I stayed, only one other person in my room 1 of the 3 nights and hardly anyone except staff in the hostel...Would definitely recommend...
