It was certainly the worst stay we’ve ever had. Our level had 36 people and only two bathrooms for the whole floor. We spent three days there and bathrooms were NEVER CLEANED! We requested at the reception for the bathrooms to be cleaned and were told they are cleaned three times a day, but removing the bins was the only thing they considered cleaning. Good location and rooms were basic but clean. Not a very social hostel, lots of people living there long term.

Paid extra for female room, but men ( cleaning men and reception guy) keep coming in the room not caring if you might be changing. Reception was creepy stalks your social media and just stares at you. Air conditioning on the room and can't switch it off cought a cold because of it.

We actually decided to cancel the rest of our nights after staying one night. Completely not what expected from the photos. Only one bathroom on our level had to go outside up the stairs in order to go to the level with more bathrooms and then have to walk down in my pyjamas past the bar which was not comfortable. The quiet hours were not respected either. The staff were lovely a breakfast was tasty but was pleased to get a refund and move to The Village instead.

Every single shower is really gross, none of them have pressure and the ones closest to my room only had cold water. That meant I had to wander the other hallways looking for better ones every time. The A/C in my dorm didn’t work consistently which meant sometimes it was miserably humid. To get to the kitchen you have to walk past the bar and the outdoor seating which was loud. We can t turn the air con off… and we can t open the window. Good luck to sleep with the noise of the air con all the night in your ears. But the kitchen is very clean and nice.

The bathrooms have been pretty dirty the whole time I’ve stayed here, I’ve seen mosquitos and cockroaches in there. The rooms are dirty and were never cleaned properly. Management is weirdly strict about curfews, certain areas are even closed off at 10pm. It’s too loud to be a work hostel and too strict to be a party hostel

Horrible place to stay. DO NOT STAY HERE. It’s dirty, people are living out of their bunks for months, mold on the walls, need I say more? It’s clearly being run by a bunch of 20yo’s that don’t care about making the property safe, clean, and comfortable. I had to leave after 1 night when the mold made me violently ill. RUN AWAY.

The Check In was overly complicated. You have to ask at the reception for dishes. They didn't have enough knives and cups. Beds were good. Key app was really slow but you could also use a code

I stayed here at Mad Monkey Central for a few weeks whilst staying in cairns. The hostel is very clean and the staff are so friendly. Couldn’t have found a better place to stay! Thank you Mad Monkey!!

Good location, clean, air con in the rooms

Only stayed at this hostel for 1 night but had a great experience. The staff are awesome and massive shoutout to Dylan (the best bartender in Cairns) for great vibes and letting me play my Afro beats at the beer garden. Will be staying there whenever passing through cairns!

Overall it is ok, nothing special, room pretty small, bathroom not really clean and really small too, it is alright to spend few days.. Big social area

staff are very friendly. good facilities. sometimes the vibes are quite cliquey as people have their own groups but generally people make the effort to talk to others. good vibes overall and great staff. would recommend.

Location it’s the best part ! The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, making it easy to meet new people. Great stay at this hostel!

The Hostel is in the center, the room has aircon and lockers! The staff is available for any request! :)

Staff are great

Location was very great ! (near the beach, the mall and the gym). Always a pleasure to walk through reception and talk to backpackers around. The volonteers also contribute to keep this place clean :)

Great hostel, very fun with lovely staff

Decent hostel, I was satisfied with how clean the bathrooms were, would be better if the beds had privacy curtains, there is a nice sitting area and large kitchen, from what I experienced there wasn’t any social activities going on. Overall it’s nothing spectacular but a perfectly reasonable place to stay. Very close to the large shopping mall and about 15 minutes from the lagoon and the port which was great.

This hostel had pros and cons. Our private room was fine, great aircon. The kitchen was clean but shared bathrooms not so much. They have a nice bar but evident lots of people living here so vibes are a little awkward

- Friendly staff and great location. - Rooms are quite basic but big lockers (bring a padlock) and codes for the doors make you feel safe. There is an entrance from the street straight into the hostel which anyone can use. - Bathrooms in our block had just been redone and were lovely. (Ongoing building work not disruptive) - Nice common area + pool, good priced bar - lots of evening activities (although quite a few long termers so not hugely social / a bit cliquey - Travel agent amazing

If you’re looking for back pain this is the place for you! I had the pleasure of feeling like I was sleeping in a ditch for 3 nights. Bathrooms are filthy. There’s so many people living here and just a lot of lads so not the best environment for female solo traveller. Anyway didn’t want to rate too bad cos the girl on reception was so nice and guy at the bar too. Also if you just want a pissup and not a comfortable place to stay you’ll probably like it here

Had a wicked night at mad monkey. Great vibes, great people. Staff were super cool and welcoming. Definitely staying here again when im back

Nice hostel for a few nights. Big common areas and nice pool, the rooms are a bit messy tho and could use some storage space

My friends and I had a great time at Mad Monkey Central! This was my first ever hostel and I felt super comfortable and at easy. The check in process was so easy and the host Jack was phenomenal. My friends and I arrived at around 1am after our late flight and Jack was kind enough to get us our towels so we could shower even though reception was closed. This was much appreciated! The bartender was friendly and very kind! Our room was clean and the bedding was way more comfortable than expected.
