The Cottage Langkawi

The owner was very unfriendly and tried to rip us off by charging 45 RM for a scooter, while the normal price is around 30 RM. Check-in was poorly organized – no one showed us the room or bathroom. The bathroom was shared by all guests with no space for personal belongings. The hostel had bad vibes, felt dishonest, and the owner was strange. The room was dirty, there was blood next to my bed, and mosquitoes in the room everywhere. I felt very uncomfortable. Do not stay here.

The toilet seat is so high that it’s uncomfortable to even sit on( I am 186cm), and the washroom/hostel lacks basic cleanliness—you might even spot a frog hopping around with you. There’s no proper security, and no lockers to safely store your belongings. The only locker available is tiny, barely big enough for a wallet- definitely not suitable for a laptop.

It was fine, felt like a place people lived long term. I was in a room with two old European men who told me they lived there.

Bij aankomst zat er alleen groepje oude mannen met bier en die zaten er volgende ochtend nog, of alweer. De enige wc die er is, staat op een soort platform waardoor je niet fatsoenlijk kan zitten. Bedden zijn oke, niet geweldig. Geen slot op de deur, alleen heel klein kluisje voor mini spullen. Gek sfeertje ook. Voelde voor ons al met al niet als een fijne plek. Ook niet enorm schoon.

Accommodatie is prima. Het ligt van de weg af, dus zou hem niet voor soloreizigers (vooral vrouwen) aanraden, want s’avonds wil je daar niet alleen lopen. Donker weiland. De kamers zijn prima, er zijn nergens sloten dus iedereen zou naar binnen kunnen lopen. Ook is het niet echt een sociaal hostel, ga er niet vanuit dat je hier je vrienden gaat vinden. Er zijn zegmaar geen activiteiten ofzo, voor het hostel zitten vooral locals.

Oke plek. Airco in de kamers. De matrassen zijn erg oud en soms beschimmeld. Dit wordt bedekt met meerdere lakens… 1 wc voor 8 mensen. Niet eens onderhouden… het stinkt. Locatie iets van de hoofdweg af. Staff niet erg aardig.

Realmente cuando voy a un hostel lo único que pido es que el baño i la cama esten limpios...

Bit strange accommodation. Outside area was just for smocking and drinking. The toilet was a sitting toilet just built on a standing toilet so you can’t put your feet on the floor if you sit on the toilet. Shower is old but ok. No kitchen area. Only 3 lockers for a 4 bed dorm. Wouldn’t stay there again.

Nice location, good place to stay for a couple of nights. The owner/manager is friendly and kind and will help book things for you. There were a lot of men just hanging around drinking all day and night (inc the owner/manager) and they would always invite you to join - which was friendly - but also always make a comment every time you come and go from the hostel - which can get annoying and means as a woman you might not want to use the hammock/ chairs outside.

I love this Hostel so much! Ended up staying here for a week... location is perfect, it's quiet, calm and a relaxing atmosphere. The stuff was great - always helpful and super friendly! Would definitely come back 🌞

Great hostel with a very cozy energy to it. Also great location, close to all the shops and restaurants but still private. The owner Wan is a legend! Provides great tips and trips to enjoy the island and you can have a great conversation and laugh with him. Would recommend the Kayaking through the Mangroves! I met some really nice people who were also staying here. The rooms and facilities are quite basic but you have all the things you need. Great value for money, would highly recommend!

Outstanding hostel with the nicest staff ever - Wan is always in for a laugh and makes sure you feel at home right away. He also puts effort in trying to make guests connect with each other. The common area is great: just sit down and meet new people every now and then. I met alot of cool people here in just 3 days. I had a private room: 10/10. I would 100% definitely come back if I visit Lankawi again.

Went in high season. Bike rental available from reception. Rooms are clean and affordable. Not super social.

Had a great time at the cottage. The lovely owner helped me organise a scooter and gave me some good recommendations for the island. Relaxed atmosphere!

I loved my stay at the Cottage, Wan is the coolest, kindest host. He has great tips and suggestions, and he’s always there to help. I really enjoyed working or just chilling in his beautiful garden.

A good stay! Beautiful location, very quiet area with lots of animals roaming around. About a 10 minute walk into town. They don’t give you a key and they don’t lock doors but I never felt unsafe. I would stay here again

Incroyable je recommande

Overall very nice hostel, clean and pretty. The only thing is that the road to the hostel can be very dark at night, which is just uncomfortable as a solo traveler. However the area seems very safe and calm.
