YMCA Hostel

A room without a window, an insane 70 dollar deposit for a key (which hasn’t been paid back 48 hours later), you have to rent plates and cutlery, dirty bathrooms and not atmosphere. Absolute bad experience here and don’t recommend it compared to other hostels at all.

No air conditioning, the rooms were unbearably hot during day and night and I was given a fan to push the hot air around. Overall the staff were very bleak and unhelpful

The hostel gives you the feeling that your not to be trusted. 70 dollars deposit for a simple key. 10 dollar deposit to hire utilities. The walls are thin and it's all a bit old fashioned. In a nice neighborhood and the beds were fine!

ok hostel, but so many rules. You cannot bring guests inside or consume alcohol. I couldn't stay longer cause I had a wine in my room. Staff seems to have asperger syndrome when you speak to them

Überhaupt nicht zu empfehlen! Wir waren wirklich geschockt. Unser Privatzimmer sah aus wie eine Gefängniszelle, für Besteck musste man extra zahlen und das hat uns direkt die Laune zum kochen genommen. Aufs Frühstücksbuffet und auf das Grillfest haben wir uns gefreut und mussten dann feststellen dass das frühstück nur toast kaffee und marmelade war und das Grillfest hat nicht mal stattgefunden. Terrible no vibe whatsoever

the customer service here is a joke. i booked this trip months in advance, for me and 4 friends. two friends ended up pulling out last minute but me and my friend kept our booking together. we arrived and they told us they had put us in different rooms and couldnt do anything about it, then charged us $70 for one key deposit and said they were giving is a good deal because they normally charge "per key"... our stay wason13/11/22 and we still havent received our deposit back 6 weeks later.

I had a private room and it smelled horrible! I needed to go to a lower floor to go to the bathroom and the toilet.

Love this place. Depika(-5 spelling) at the front desk is so nice and very helpful.

For a hostel I felt it was somewhat overpriced yet my room and view was similar to being in a tree house.

DO NOT STAY HERE IN SUMMER. Room was unbearably hot with no AC. Couldn’t sleep and requested to be moved to another room on the South Side at 1am.

Did the job for my one night in Auckland. The wifi set up (hotspot) leaves something to be desired. There are also inadequate places to sit/relax. There is one small kitchen that is on the third floor. I did enjoy that there was a fridge in my room, and that the cost for a 2 person female dorm was not much more than the rooms with more people/mixed gender - this was appreciated. simple yet convenient lodging in the heart of Auckland. Only issue was finding the entrance to the hostel and not the gym. Lovely staff pointed me in the right direction but better indication/signage for correct entrance would be appreciated

The staff were super friendly and helpful and let us store our bags for the day, as we arrived before our room was ready. However it’s an old building and the rooms are in need of a good renovation. Everything is just a bit old and because of this, doesn’t feel clean. Did the job for a night, but wouldn’t be racing back to stay there again.

good spot for the price. I had the single room on the 4th floor. was nice. bathrooms were clean too. neiborhood is about 2 blocks from a sketchy street or two, and if you want to go to downtown, it's on the top of the hill. so expect a walk up and down hill. it's near K road which is pretty neat for nightlife but also has its problems. I would stay here again. great deal.

I really liked the location and the atmosphere of the hostel. However, I think the kitchens are too small for the number of guests — it can get quite crowded. Also, one night a man was mistakenly placed in our female dorm in the middle of the night, and no one apologized until we went to reception to complain. Decent place! Wasn’t thrilled with the location at first but grew to like it - short walk to St. Kevin’s Arcade and bus stop with frequent busses. Not very social, but that’s fine. No lockers in the rooms but also didn’t have trouble with other guests.

The hostel is nice, mattresses are really comfy, showers are clean but not that practical (tiny, not a big jet, but at least hot). Kitchens are in my opinion actually not good, they were not clean and really small, not friendly at all and you don’t want to use utensils, there is not that much cutlery and things to properly cook. Safest hostel I’ve been at by far. Has all the facilities you need, is simple but clean.

It’s really not that clean and quite uncomfortable staying there. I also had a big bedbug problem had in my room so I had to change rooms to have a clean bed. The washing facilities are old and not clean either and I think for what you get, it’s actually quite expensive.

War überhaupt nicht sauber, und man musste sehr viel Kaution für Schlüssel und Besteck etc bezahlen. Außerdem war unser Zimmer total dreckig und die Handtücher sollte man in keinem Fall benutzen !!
