- I chose this backpacker based on recommendations, but it turned out to be a nightmare. There was no one at reception when I arrived, and I had to wait about an hour. The bell was hidden and not clearly visible. All dorm rooms are shipping containers with no windows and very poor ventilation. The room was dark, damp, and smelled bad. Other guests brought in wet shoes, which made the smell unbearable. I felt sick and almost nauseous. There were no locks or keys for the rooms, so anyone could enter. The suggested storage area did not feel secure. I paid NZD $55 per night but ended up sleeping in my car on the second night due to the moldy smell. Most guests seemed to be Western travelers in their 20s, and I understand some people may like the vibe. However, for me it was a disgusting experience. It felt like sleeping in a smelly, moldy storage container, and I was concerned about my health. I would never go back.

- シャワーのお湯が出ず、寒い思いをしながら水を浴びた。夏でも夜は寒いのに水しか出ないのは辛い。また部屋が狭いうえに収納スペースがないので足の踏み場もないくらい荷物が散乱していた。ただでさえはしごが登りにくいのに床に荷物が散らばっていてベッドにたどり着くのに一苦労だった。とても狭いので部屋で荷解きをするのも一苦労。このクオリティでこの値段は観光地価格だから仕方ないとはいえ、周りに競争相手がいないから成り立っているなと感じた。口コミが良く期待していた分残念だった。

+ Ideale Unterkunft wenn man am nächsten Tag den Abel Tasman Track (für mehrere Tage) machen möchte. Wir konnten ohne Probleme die Koffer dort abgesperrt hinterlegen.
+ Emma, the owner, is super friendly and helpful; not only for doing laundry but also for recommendations and making this place feel a home. I truly appreciated her.
- Unfortunately, the beds resp. the containers are not comfortable at all. I hate to give this place such a low rating, because, as mentioned, Emma is great! But the matresses are old and/or cheap (I spent two nights on two different mattresses). I could feel every single spring. The second night it was so hot and sticky in the container that I hardly slept. There is no window, so no was to get fresh air - with 6 people in one room. Not great. Plus, I had a bed bug eating me alive. I got about 40 bites that were ichy for days and still visible after a week. It was very, very unpleasant. The way this was handled wasn’t great. At the end, I need a good night‘s sleep and I didn’t get it there.
+ The location was great to access the park and Emma was very friendly and helpful. Lovely outdoor space and social areas.
- The mattress was uncomfortable and the bed at the end of the room was stuffy. Even though it says air conditioned rooms, this was not the case, there was no ac in the room I was in and it was incredibly hot. There was also no space to put your belongings so it was messy and hard to walk around and you could also hear people on the other side as the two rooms are attached.
Good hostel in a great location. Rooms were pretty small with little space for backpacks, no lockers. Also minimal plug sockets in the rooms. Nice garden area and an easy walk to and from the beach / coastal walks. Didn't use the kitchen but facilities looked good. Clean bathrooms :)
Die Gastgeberin war sehr nett und die Lage war gut. Leider ist es überhaupt nicht für schlechtes Wetter geeignet. Man hat jeden dreck ins Zimmer getragen und im Bad und den duschen waren überall Kakerlaken durch den Regen. Bei Sonne stelle ich es mir schön vor. Nichts war überdacht, keine Haken um Sachen aufzuhängen oder Dinge zu trocknen.

One of the cutest hostels I’ve stayed in! Emma was so welcoming, everyone was social, it felt like peace. The cinema is amazing!! Close to the beach and Nationalpark. Would definitely recommend!
the best hostel we have ever stayed in, was quiet due to off season but the lady was so attentive and welcoming and let everyone have their own room which was a lovely touch

One of the best hostels I've stayed at! The owner of the hostel was the nicest and had the best sense of humour (Also makes a fantastic cappuccino). Wish I could have stayed at this hostel for longer, the nightly fire brought people together and the marshmellows brought out were a nice touch too :) Located about a 10 minute walk from the start of the Abel Tasman coast great walk, it's the perfect basecamp in Marahau.

+ Alles perfekt. Richtig toll ausgestattet, super Küche, Billardtische, Kinosaal und gut gelegen, bevor man in den Abel Tasman starten will. Das Paar, das das Hostel betreibt auch extrem nett und total toll, was hier alleine auf die Beine gestellt wurde.
- Die Matratzen hätten etwas dicker und gemütlicher sein können
+ Staff is really friendly and willing to help with whatever. Facilities are great as well. All in all nothing to complain about, had a great week there. Would highly recommend!
Probably the best hostel I’ve stayed at, amazing facilities with cinema room, pool table etc and v spacious. Really relaxed vibe which made it easy to meet people and some nice touches with marshmallows to have over the fire outside. Staff are friendly and welcoming and overall a great stay

+ Man hat sich sofort wie zu Hause gefühlt. Das Hostel hat eine sehr entspannte Atmosphäre, einen tollen Garten und Gemeinschaftseinrichtungen. Besonders das abendliche Feuer mit Marshmallows ist gemütlich und bringt alle zusammen. Der nette Mitarbeiter war das Beste!
- Man sollte viel Essen einpacken, da es keinen richtigen Supermarkt gibt. Kleine Shops fürs Nötigste und gute Restaurants gibt’s aber 👍
+ Super Ausgangslage für den Abel Tasman Nationalpark. Steckdose und Licht am Bett. Küche hat alles was man braucht. Langweilig wird es auch nicht (Kino, Billiard, etc) Abends trifft man sich am Feuer. Tolle Unterkunft, tolle Menschen die vor Ort bei allem helfen. Ich bin länger geblieben als ich geplant hatte.
