Fra I Sassi Hostel

Wonderful location in Matera, such a beautiful and special town. Unfortunately the Hostel Dorm was less than wonderful - the bathrooms had black mould, there was no access to the communal kitchen and we were not allowed to sit in the café area during the day. Limited access to water, we had to ask for refills at reception each time on hot days. Love the city of Matera but the hostel part of this facility is not the most welcoming for backpackers.

Auberge très bien située ! La chambre n'a pas de charme particulier mais les lits sont confortables. 2 salle de bains propre et spacieuses. Possibilité de se poser sur les différentes terrasses de l'établissement et de prendre le petit dejeuner / buffet (excellent !) à l'hôtel.

Basic hostel, no common rooms or anything except for beds. The room is very comfortable, and the views from outside are possibly the best in Matera! Loved it. While there is a gate that locks at night, the room can still be accessible by public streets at the top, so just make sure you keep the door locked.

Pros - beautiful location, clean and quiet. Cons - no kitchen, makes travelling on a budget difficult.

Fantastic location, lovely clean room, perfect spot!

Está bien, pero los baños se llenan de agua al bañarse y le faltan espacios comunes. El desayuno está muy bien pero no está incluido, son 12€ por persona.

As soon as you step out of the hostel you are greeted with the gorgeous view of the Sassi Town! I could do everything I wanted to as soon as I got putside the hostel. The main downside for me is the lack of a kitchen area especially for a budget traveller like me.

Needed a place to sleep as a pilgrim arriving on the Via Peuceta. The place is clean and well located. Room is stuffy, hot and quickly gets unbearably moist as there's not ventilation. Good thing there's an indispensable AC unit. Price is okay, staff is nice, there are two clean bathrooms for 8 beds.

Great, hostel-style accomodation in the centre of the Sassi area. Clean, warm and dry. Lots of cafes and restaurants close by. Very friendly and accomodating staff. Would highly recommend. Grazie mille!

One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed.

So glad I chose this hostel for my stay in Matera! The location is absolutely stunning and the views from the building, and outdoor seating area, is somewhere I could sit and enjoy a coffee and a book every day. The location is great right in the middle of the stassi. The rooms were nice enough, modern clean bathrooms; although the rooms are underground and quite hot and musty even in winter so I’m not sure what summer would be like. 100% the place to stay, and Masera is a MUST VISIT in ...

Falta uma melhor limpeza no box do banheiro. O exaustor do banheiro não funciona e como o local não tem janelas o vapor acumula muito. A localização é ótima, fácil de chegar na rua del corso que é super movimentada. Perto de vários restaurantes. Minha estadia foi ótima.

Great location in a fascinating city. It was a diverse clientele, but the hostel was a little hard to find and the dorm was crowded. A good value for the money.

Great hostel with a perfect location right within the Sassi (though far from the main bus station). The beds are comfy and clean. But there is no curtains for privacy and we have to do our beds ourselves. There is no common area but as there is only one dorm everyone is already at the same place. The second bathroom need extra hangers for the clothes and the towels.

Wow wow wow. This hostel is the best I’ve stayed in to date (I’ve stayed in many hostels). Beds are uber comfortable and the view is something I can’t explain. Spacious and more of a 5 star hotel rather than hostel. Couldn’t recommend this enough, particularly for solo travellers.

Great location in the old town of Matera, beds were comfortable and water for showers was hot. Staff were not friendly, but we're available to help with queries. No kitchen facilities, just a microwave and a kettle but no cutlery available unless you ask at reception, which was frustrating. Also one of the showers was impossible to wash in without it spilling on the whole floor as there was no lip, which was just odd. Would stay again if visiting Matera though, as it's a beautiful spot.

Awesome stay! Great location right in the centre of everything and a bus stop just outside. Super nice and helpful staff, comfy and spacious dorm, bed and lots of room in the bathroom for all your stuff. Def recommend !

Personeel heel aardig en behulpzaam met dingen in de buurt en het snel regelen van een taxi. Andere reizigers ook heel aardig en goeie atmosfeer!

Amazing central position, very welcoming and kind staff, fantastic view, clean and cosy spaces and facilities, you feel the atmosphere of the Sassi with all the comfort and safety!

Beautiful view and building. The dorm was nice and clean but got a bit stuffy due to no windows, which is understandable in a cave. Great value, staff were helpful and the location was perfect.
