Hostel Huellas and Camping

I’ve never been unable to stay the night at a hostel until this one. For one the road is so rocky + bumpy you must park at the very end of the street and walk your bags down. The place itself was disgusting but I would’ve roughed it out if my bed didn’t literally have dirt and dead bugs on top of the sheet + the mosquito net didn’t cover the whole mattress. Do not stay here.

bad place to go. not clean at all, not safe at all. nobody else was there when we were there and it seemed the hostel closed. the owner is nice when not drunk, which very rarely happens. some other friends of his are usually coming to the hostel to get drunk with him, which makes the atmosphere very weird I can not recommend this place

This is the worst place I stayed in my whole Nicaragua trip. The owner was not interested in helping with my issues at all, instead he responded with a voice note where the first 20 seconds was him coughing into the microphone (he'd been smoking weed all day) and then said he'll speak to me in the morning. In the morning he ignored all my messages. I had booked 3 nights but left after one. I would have left immediately but he refused to refund me. (The receptionist/staff was cool tho...

Mala experiencia. Reservé 2 noches y al llegar había overbooking, pero me dejaron quedarme. El hostel estaba sucio y mal mantenido. El colchón era viejo, se sentían las tablas y terminé con dolores en el cuerpo. Además, coincidí con una fiestacerca, los huéspedes regresaron haciendo mucho ruido. Si buscas descansar, este no es el lugar. No lo recomiendo.

Ich habe dort aufgrund des Preises gebucht und auch nicht viel erwartet. Trinkwasser war immer leer und wurde auch nie aufgefüllt. Die Duschen haben nach der ersten Nacht nicht mehr funktioniert und es wurde sich auch nach Aufforderung nicht gekümmert. Matratzen waren extrem durchgelegen, sodass man quasi auf dem Lattenrost lag. Haben nach der zweiten Nacht die weiteren Nächte storniert. Der Besitzer kam uns entgegen und hat uns die Hälfte noch erstattet.

Wer Lust hat von Flöhen im Bett zerstochen und von Mücken maltretiert zu werden der ist hier genau richtig. Der Weg zum Hostel hin und zurück ist zudem eine Frechheit. Toiletten und Küche waren maximal dreckig und nur halb funktionsfähig. Der Typ vom Hostel war ganz korrekt und der Pool war ganz gut der gesamte Rest war unterirdisch. Sind direkt am nächsten Morgen wieder weiter.

Unfortunately the bad reviews are true. The hostel staff is super nice and location is good. But the facilities are incredibly dirty and in bad shape. We moved to a different place. You should also know it’s a party hostel and is very difficult to sleep. The lay out of the social area makes for socializing right next to windows of dorms that are just bug screens. And this can be in 2-4 am range. We hardly slept here. It has potential but I wouldn’t stay here again.

Owner was extremely drunk and unwelcoming (especially as a queer couple). We were kept up until 3am by the owners drunk arguments. He threatened to seriously harm a guest who asked him to keep it down, said he can keep people up in his hostel and that backpackers were entitled *****. He then smashed glass, cracked his own head falling out of bed and bribed other guests to leave better reviews. Was the filthiest hostel we’ve ever stayed in. Would not stay again and wouldn’t recommend to anyon...

We had an interesting stay to say the least. If you Like a Place where the staff and the owner is always drunk or on other drugs this Place is for you. Moreover everything was Dirty and the toilets oftenr didn‘t work. Also our peanut Butter was eaten by someone and on top of that when i forgot my hipback outside money was missing and when i asked to See the Video fotage it magicly got found by the owner. The Last Night was the worst as the owner raged out on acid and broke Windows and stuff.

C’est un délire. Mais pas le mien. L’accès n’est déjà pas évident, la douche n’est pas toujours accessible, et je n’ai jamais vu autant de moucherons..

Really nice hostel and perfect location!! Huge outside area with tons of space to chill, play and hangout. It has a communal kitchen, which almost none of the other hostels in ometepe have and the new owner tries to improve and be creative everywhere around the hostel. Whole staff team was so nice!!!

This place is really special and is run with a lot of love and care – the breakfast Jafeth prepared was absolutely DELICIOUS and there was something different every day! The volunteers and people there were really amazing and made this trip so much better – I can’t recommend it highly enough! ;) + the cat there is the cutest!!

I absolutely loved my stay at Huellas! The host is the most kind man, giving great recommendations and makes an excellent breakfast. The place is charming, chill, rustic and authentic. It needs a little TLC, but the vibe was overall immaculate. You become close with the people working there, making it feel like a little family. I felt safe as a female solo traveler. Wish I could have stayed longer, would love to return one day!

Personalen var väldigt trevlig och gjorde god och personlig frukost dagligen! Boendet ligger lite i ” skogen ” så man behöver gå en bit men inte så långt. Rummen var helt okej, sängarna hade myggnät men det var lite smutsigt och mycket insekter både i rummen och badrummen. Fanns bra wifi och biljard!

The hostel owner is really lovely and helpful. The breakfast was tasty - we had eggs, bread & fruit. The hostels cat is so cute! The place is good vibes, it has a pool that is available for use at all times of the day. The rooms look like the photos. Just be aware there’s lots of bugs around, which is common for the area.

Definitely rustic but I liked it, super tranquillo in the day and the host makes a really nice breakfast

Running water rarely worked (didn’t get to shower). Huge spiders and insects everywhere. Great breakfast and mattresses however + the owner is very friendly. If you really want to experience the wildlife and see some cool insects you will enjoy it here, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend.

De hygiëne in de dorm room laat qua vuil op de grond en in de badkamer de wensen over. De matrassen zijn er oud, dun en doorgelegen, de slechtste matrassen wel tot nu toe voor mijzelf. De sfeer op de plek is met de vrijwilligers en het personeel verder erg goed, dit samen met de fijne groene tuin, chil plekken in de tuin en op de veranda en de gedeelde keuken maken het tot een ok plek. De plek kan op meerdere plekken wel wat onderhoud en opknappen gebruiken. Dat zou alles een stuk netter make...

I never tend to write reviews, but I have been on this planet for 28 years and this is the worst place I have ever stepped foot in. For context I’ve also spent an evening in a police cell. The bathroom was constantly flooded and whole hostel was unclean. Upon my arrival at 3pm my bed had not been made and I had to make it myself at 8pm. There were no staff present and illegal substances were being consumed constantly. On a positive note, the bed in the private room was surprisingly comfy...

Kein Party Hostel aber nicer vibe und nice Anlage. Könnte nur sauberer sein.

It a hostel in the jungle, so you naturally have to deal with moskitos. Besides that it’s a very chill and relaxed hostel. Good place to stay and relax in the jungle for a couple of days.

Had a great time at Huelllas. Phoenix was a great host and will definitely come back here.

Pretty good, although I got bedbugs. Also, we lost the key ( well they’re pretty sure we left it in the room ) then we also got charged for this. Shame because it’s a really nice spot

Wonderful Place and People. The Rooms and the Kitchen are very spacious, clean and functional. The place invites you to dream and the owner Phoenix is a very interesting and generous Person. Felt like home. Would definitely recommend.

amazing kitchen, has everything you need. The private room bed was very comfortable. lots of bugs though. volunteers were very nice

The staff and volunteers were wonderful, so welcoming and full of recommendations and information on the island - nothing was too much to ask! Surrounded by nature and full of wildlife a lovely place to relax and recharge. Big double bed in the dorm which was lovely, some of the facilities are under maintenance (the bar etc) but didn’t bother me. Overall a lovely peaceful place for those who love nature

we had a really nice time at huellas ! The staff is very welcoming and helpfull,they helped us for the moto and even keep our bags during one day more, thanks again to everyone ! The location is nice, near activities and kind of lost in the forest. They all work hard to make the stay at their place enjoyable !
