Hostel Exp, Auroville - A Rural Retreat Experience

Really lovely hostel that has everything you could need. Huge garden and different hangout spaces, a kitchen, bicycle hire, hammocks - everything! The staff are really welcoming and friendly and I felt at home here, I only wish I could have stayed for longer. A lot of thought and care has gone into the space and making it work for backpackers which is amazing. Dorm room was simple, clean and comfortable. Highly, highly recommend if you're staying in Auroville!

Had a really wonderful stay the night was calm, silent and beautifully dark.The natural music of insects and birds made the experience truly peaceful and pleasant.A great place that everyone should try at least once.Thank you for such a memorable experience

Absolutely loved this hostel. Some of the best vibes ever, its cheap, clean, staff are helpful and food at the café is very good and cheap. Just don’t rent bikes with Kavi, hes awful and a liar.

I came here three weekends while volunteering out of Auroville and everytime I chose to stay in this hostel for the amazing vibes, location, people and activities. Super reccomended!

Peaceful, welcoming and a great retreat from busy life

My stay at this hostel was immesely pleasurable. It is located far away from the hustle & bustle of the city life; nestled in the middle of a quiet, green forest, it is a cozy getaway with all the necessary amenities. Goodwin, the manager, and Naufal, his buddy, were extremely kind, helpful and prompt in everything they did. They ensured my stay was as smooth as it could be and they were even kind enough to pick up & drop off guests on their bikes! No other hostel does this! Highly recommended!

Great experience and I’ll come back for sure! HostelExp is on the edge of the forest and offers a great natural, raw experience as close to the principles of Auroville as can be for a hostel. There are enough common areas to meet people, a very supportive owners and staff, centrally located for so many places, clean comfortable rooms and in-season a whole list of activities that can keep you engaged for days.

Whenever I visit Auroville, I’ll stay only here. The location is perfect and close to all main spots. The hostel is peaceful, it has a lot of area too.. surrounded by trees, with a campfire area, meditation spot, hammocks, and open spaces to walk. Rooms are comfy with lockers, and there are books, ( good collectiom of great novels ) games, a projector, and movie nights. You can relax here without even going out. Budget-friendly and simply perfect!

I stayed at HostelExp in Auroville for 4 nights and absolutely loved the peaceful vibe of the place. The people was very super friendly,helpful with great vibe. The rooms and common areas were clean and well-maintained. I really liked the outdoor seating areas with hamkocks which is great for relaxing after exploring. If you’re someone who enjoys a quiet stay with a touch of community spirit this is a great place to be. Would definitely recommended for solo travellers.

Overall a great hostel and super location. But here's my review- There was water issue sometimes. There was supposed to be a community dinner and bonfire but nothing on the day I stayed. The staff was great. I felt a bit uncomfortable with the stairs to the first floor, it wasn't very safe and accessible for everyone. And probably the smallest bathroom I'd ever seen (the tap was broken but ok), overall I think the bathroom could be cleaner. Be prepared for the most mosquitoes.

A very big shout out to Hostel Exp! We extended our stay and still could have stayed longer. Goodwin and his team were very hospitable and helpful. Everyone we met were very lovely, there is a very welcoming atmosphere in the air that makes it a great place to be. We were able to hire a scooter with ease which made exploring very fun and convenient. We would highly recommend and be eager to return. Thank you guys!

Cleanliness, Communication by Staff, Food, Location, Transport services can be improved

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour! Même en basse saison, il y a toujours des activités proposées : dîners conviviaux, jeux de plage, soirées organisées à l’extérieur avec l’hôtel… L’ambiance est très agréable et on s’y sent en sécurité. Les chambres sont propres, les espaces communs sont beaux et apaisants, parfaits pour se détendre. Les voyageurs comme le personnel sont respectueux et bienveillants : un vrai petit cocon
