Amphitheatre Backpackers Lodge

We used to stay there in the past.. Food is realy bad and place is falling apart. No coffee in the room. Globes are faulty, Staff are very helpful though..

great place but toilets and kitchens apparently weren't cleaned at all. Also we (2 girls) stayed in a dorm in the nearly empty hostel and they put the only other single male traveller in our room as well. Would have been nice to have a bit more space since everything was empty anyways

One of the best backpackers hostel I got to visit. The location is amazing with stunning views over the moutains, the facilities offers a lot to do and the staff is great. Special thanks to Muzi, Fiso and the great Tshengi (a black women manager, it deserves mentioning!!)

Mega cool ist dass man abends noch was tun kann, das ist ja un Südafrika sonst oft nicht der Fall, da man sich im dunkeln zu unsicher fühlt. Wir haben richtig schöne Abende mit kochen, Billiard, Bouldern (!!ja! es gibt dort einfach eine Boulderhöhle, zwar etwas älter, aber immerhin die erste seit Kapstadt)oder am Pool verbracht. Einziger kleiner Mangel ist, dass es jetzt nicht perfekt sauber war, die Küchenausstattung war nur okey& die normalen Doppelzimmer besteht aus einem Stockbett.

The atmosphere was great, a little dated, but the rooms were good as well. We had the room with the shared washroom, the showers were clean. The windows in the showers didn’t have screens and there were lots of bugs in the washrooms but what can you expect in the great outdoors. Most hikes were approx 1 hr drive away, but the location was central. We did the excursion to Lesotho with the hostel and it was an awesome day, visiting a school, learning about community & hiking, highly recommend.

Had a lovely stay at Amphitheatre Backpackers. The beds were very comfortable and the staff were very friendly. We encountered quite a large storm during my stay and I was able to book for an extra night and as a result of the storm the power went down in my dorm but the staff were able to rectify this quickly. Due to it being the quiet season, booking a tour as a solo traveller was a bit tricky as there needed to be at least 2 people, but that also makes sense. The tours were very well run!

Lovely location, Great members of staff and very cheap drinks and food at the bar. Besides that my only gripes are cleanliness of certain areas of the dorms, inconsistent hot water in the dorm showers and lack of hand soap. Would definitely visit again though and it serves as good starting point for hiking the drakensberg or just a relaxing holiday.
