I’m not one to leave bad reviews, but my experience at Free Cervesa was far from great. DO NOT DRINK AT THE FILTERED WATER STATION! Ten of us got sick at the same time. The only thing we had taken in common was the water. It was 10:15pm and we were asking for bottled water, the only answer we got was; wait until 8am tomorrow. Some workers were also mocking and making vomitting noises. I’ve never been witness to such a big lack of empathy. I booked at another place for the rest of my ...
You actually only receive 1 free 200ml Corona. They should rename it Free 1/2 a Cerveza Hostel. I saw the cleaner use the same gloves to clean the toilets, open/close the doors, use the taps and replace clean towels for people to dry their hands. Ick. They should cook Guatemalan food because they can't make good international food. The seating is very uncomfortable considering there's nothing to do but lounge around. The view is nice.
DO NOT STAY HERE! A large amount of BLACK MOLD covering the tipi tents. Woke up feeling unwell and had to leave early due to asthma and concern for my own health. Such a shame, nice for the day but absolutely would NOT recommend staying here if you value your lungs & health. Not as advertised.
Definitely an overhyped spot. First of all, there is no way you can stay in the tent before 8-9pm because it is a literal sauna. For the amount we pay, they could use small ventilators. The beds are extremely dirty. The whole vibe of the hostel is pretentious and the volunteers are so clique-y, side eyeing the customers and doing fake smiles. They kick out everyone at 10 pm from the common area so there is literally no where else to go but the bed so they tell you to walk to another hostel..
Free cerveza?! Also for free ist hier gar nichts.
Nice hostel, quite expensive for clamping. But clean facilities. Shower was often cold and staff said there was nothing they could do. Staff were quite rude and had a cult vibe - weird as they are just volunteering. Probably wouldn’t stay again
The staff is rude and talks to people like they're children. Literally forcing people to go to bed at TEN pm and closing down any common area, as well as yelling at people for hanging out outside. Prison vibes for sure, the space looks nice enough, but the stays are really just hot tents with mattresses on the floor and nowhere to securely lock your belongings. Nothing to do in the area either. Plus the hostel smells like a port o potty throughout and the overpriced family dinner gave my friend ...
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The staff were rude from the moment we arrived. The two ‘managers’ at the reception desk, especially Brian, were unprofessional and unpleasant throughout our entire stay. However, the rest of the staff, including the entertainment team, were friendly and welcoming.
Great location and property. Overhyped and the atmosphere was not great due to the voulenters from a specific country who actline they own the place and are really there to entertain themselves. The food was also terrible with limited options on the island. I would skip this place.

This place rocks! So much to do and the staff is killer! only downside is santa cruz itself doesn't have alot and the launches dont go there direct from every town so you may have to go to pana from say santiago.
Everything was good, we did the SUP activity with Kesed and she was very kind and help full, David at reception was very fun!
Beautiful location, plenty of free activities, nice and clean showers. Staff is friendly but since most are volunteers they do not know much of organization issues in Lake Atitlan and surroundings. It is impossible to be at the tent during the day as it is so hot. Great place to chill, but far away from anything else. I found it a bit pricey for being dorms. Paying by cash is the only option (online payment has 10% comission!!!), and the town has only 1 ATM which usually does not work.

Had the best time at this hostel! Vibe was made by the volunteers - shout out to Seb and Molly. Thanks for an amazing stay
Really an amazing hostel. It’s so much fun and so relaxing that during the day we didn’t even want to leave to go explore the other towns like we planned on we just ended up staying at free cerveza at the entire time. We loved it.
10/10 would recommend, clean, social, and has hot showers! India and Carol were fab they made sure we have the best time.
At first glance, a good hostel. Nice location, and a cozy atmosphere. However, the foul stench wafting over the entire hostel is truly unbearable. It comes from the toilets because they have a system here with large pits where everything falls and is collected. You look straight into a mountain of s*** as soon as you go to the toilet. As a result, there is also a fly infestation that I don't think can really be solved unless they address the toilet problem.
This property is amazing! Excellent social events every day and wonderful 25Q (3USD) smoothies on tap all day everyday. Made it easy to rack up quite the cash bill unfortunately for myself.
Really enjoyed my time here, loved the vibe. Thought Colleen was a super friendly and helpful asset to the team.
I loved my stay here! Wish I could stay forever. And a big shoutout to Rachael, she was so welcoming!
It’s really as good as everyone says it is. If you can book here you definitely should, this was a highlight of my trip! The food is good, staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is great for meeting people. Shout out to Lily for a wonderful sunrise SUP ride. I love Free Cerveza!
The bar tab system is convenient, but it caused a big issue. After opening a tab, others were able to add drinks just by using my name. There was no verification like wristbands or ID checks. I ended up paying for drinks I didn’t order. Staff didn’t address the problem and only cared about getting the bill paid. This system needs better security.
Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at! Clean and always has something fun going on!! Perfect mix between chill and social!
i loved my stay here! Ettie was absolutely amazing she was so so friendly and welcoming it made my stay so much better ! i will be back to see her !! mi amoreeee
I absolutely LOVED my stay at free cerveza, I only wished I could have stayed longer. Maria and Julia at reception were so helpful. Luka especially was so welcoming, friendly and helpful, checking in if we needed anything and explaining what activities were available. Absolutely made our stay. Thank you!
Very friendly staff, Lily was amazing.
Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. Feels like a resort of 20-30 year olds drinking, swimming, and tanning. The staff are amazing too, especially Jack, Mia, and Lily.
