Mellow Mountain Hostel

they had a rave in the hostel the night we stayed, directly underneath our room. It was impossible to sleep and only stopped at 2am. Not only was it loud, but the entire room was shaking because of the music. I had earphones in playing my own music and nothing drowned it out. My roommate had to actually leave and sleep in her car because it was giving her such a bad migraine. I don’t know who thought that having a rave in a place where people need to SLEEP was a good idea. Would never recomme...

This was by far the worst hostel stay I've ever experienced. Without any postings on Hostel World app, they decided to throw a rave on a Thursday night DIRECTLY underneath our room. The music was blasting from 9am-2am. The kids who operate this place also reside there so they treat it like their own home and have no consideration for guests. I ended up sleeping in my car because the vibrations of the music gave me a bad headache. Would NEVER stay here again, ruined our trip to Tahoe.

Love this hostel so much!! Friendly staff, very clean, and in the middle of downtown! Also a super close walk to the lake!

I had a very bad experience with a man coming into our all female room in the middle of the night. He was talking to his friend on the top bunk when I asked them to please go outside. He got mad at me and told me "it's a free country." He also left our door wide open. It was very loud at the hostel. I saw zero staff members while there except for the man when I checked in. They didnt even ask what kind of car I had for parking so basically anyone had freedom to park there with no enforcement.

Good location. Friendly staff. good kitchen and computer room. washrooms are clean.

All staff was lovely, except for the staff member swilling vodka and exposing himself to pee on the building in the common seating area out front.

Unfortunately, the hygiene of the place left a lot to be desired. The kitchen was greasy and didn’t seem to be cleaned regularly. Overall, the shared spaces felt uncomfortable and not well maintained. I wouldn’t recommend it for travelers looking for a clean and pleasant environment.

vibe: great place to meet people with an awesome communal area. cleanliness: beds were clean, showers and the communal kitchen and walkways needed attention. the place is a bit run down but ive been in worse hostels, they just need a big spring clean. location: great and close to every hike and local spot. facilities: kitchen well equippeequipped, beds had own charging points and reading lights which was a plus.

They are one of the best I have met in all the accommodations I have been to. The vibe and the welcoming atmosphere are everything I expected from a hostel. Highly recommended to anyone who is doing a solo trip to Tahoe.

Its a great hostel located very close to the hot spots. The kitchen is well facilitated but needs a chimney above the stove. Overall, a great experience. I had an issue with the heat in my room and they made sure I was accomodated in another room to my liking! Happy Thanksgiving!

Perfect location! Walkable to many South Lake Tahoe food and drinks. Great value! Easy check-in and check-out. Plenty of parking.

Overall I enjoyed this hostel and would definitely stay again. My main issue came from the laundry situation. Laundry is only available for guests after 4pm in the summer and 6pm in the winter. And they only have 1 washer and 1 dryer for guests. With how many beds they have it’s kind of insane to allow such a short window and only 1 machine. The people were nice and the room was fine though. I would just recommend using a laundromat instead.

Perfect for my needs!! Quiet and perfect location!

Better than advertised! Black-out curtains on all bunkbeds. Personal fan, lamp, charging outlets & shelf with each bed. 1 bathroom per 4 people with 2 extra bathrooms accessed with keycard. Great kitchen & lots of seating in eating area.

Great stay.

Great experience, I have no complaints. Chill atmosphere, super clean facilities, nice staff, good location. Would totally come back if I’m in the area again. Only comment is I wish they would change the kitchen sponges more often (at least once every 1-2 weeks), they were pretty nasty when I stayed here

Good craic at the hostel. Great location.

Only stayed very briefly but would absolutely recommend! We checked in late after reception hours, and the staff accommodated us no problem - big thank you to Selina who sorted out an issue with our key cards super quickly! Price was great for a room with a private shower - water pressure was good and temp was hot! Will absolutely be staying again next time I’m in Tahoe

Pretty great stuff. This was the first Hostel I've stayed at in the US and it was a great experience! Even though I was traveling to Palisades for my ski days, I had a great time traveling around the lake and coming back to the welcoming week day crowd here to enjoy dinner, some rest, and work post ski day. If you're skiing at Heavenly, this is a no brainer.

Unique place. Full of interesting art and great people.
