Off the GRID Monteverde

This place is a SCAM! It is the old Selina hostel that the new owners are using the old reviews and photos to boost their business. This place is extremely far from the town, incredibly dirty (with mold on cabinets, pillows, doors, ceilings, etc.), and very poorly equipped (the kitchen literally only has a microwave and jacuzzi dont work). The photos and description is incredibly misleading, as there is usually nobody staying here and it is a ghost town. Everything is broken. Avoid at all costs!

No longer a backpackers hostel! Overpriced. They have now closed off the kitchen so you have to buy their overpriced and really bad food. Beers are 2.2k! So the bar is dead in the evenings. You can’t use the hot tub without a reservation so it’s usually one or two people with two hot tubs. Not very social. Was a ghost town most nights until a tour bus full of 14-15 year olds shows up and are running around screaming. Very isolated, $10 taxi to town. Facilities are nice but not worth the pric...

The hostel is really far from everything. We were really excited to stay here and it’s not a cheap accommodation for a backpacker but when we stayed we got stuck in a cyclone and unfortunately had no power or water for 2 days. The staff did not give any compensation to us. Disappointing.

The room was very damp and uncomfortable. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. The restaurant is expensive and okay. You have to book times for the pool. There are few bathrooms

Expensive. Absolutely no atmosphere. It’s an hour walk away from everything. The food in the kitchen sucks as well. This place was full of families and gives off resort vibes more than that of a hostel. If you’re a solo traveller, definitely avoid this like the plague if you’re looking for the standard hostel vibe.

I requested to cancel 1 of my reviews far before the cancellation date and was still billed. It has been impossible to connect with someone at Hostelworld to discuss. 1 star

Das Restaurante im Hostel ist leider nicht zu empfehlen. Preis-Leistung stimmt hier absolut nicht. Mein Gemüse und mein Brot waren anscheinend vom Frühstück übrig geblieben und das wird dann abends noch serviert. Und dafür dann überteuerte Preise. Der welcome Drink bestand aus einem Shot - auch schon besseres erlebt. Außerdem sind die Touren die man übers Hostel buchen kann viel zu teuer. Das bekommt man direkt vor Ort deutlich günstiger. Some of the property is a little aged, but they are clearly working on improving it. My one gripe is the pool table is nearly unusable, but overall this place was amazing. You can walk across the street to enter the cloud forest preserve.

Very clean and updated property, and it was quiet during my stay as I was the only one in the dorm. It’s about a 10-minute drive from the main city, so having a car is necessary and it’s not the most convenient for city access, but overall it was a peaceful and well-maintained place to stay.

This hostel has an amazing vibe and it is as close to the Cloudforest National Park as you can get. The only downside was that there were not many other people here, because there is so much space to hang out and enjoy being in the rainforest. They told us the prior hostel owner had gone bankrupt, so I strongly encourage everyone to stay here and support a truly wonderful place to stay in Monteverde.

Das Hostel ist super nah am Nationalpark gelegen. Ich war froh hatte ich ein Auto ansonsten muss man mit dem Taxi da hoch und runter zum Dorf. Super netter Gastgeber, welcher mir ganz viele Tipps für meine Reise in Costa Rica gegeben hat.

Lovely hotel. Great for a digital nomad looking for a place to stay during their time in Monteverde. Far from the core of town, but there isn’t much in the town anyway and it’s a quick uber ride away. Very nice common area and restaurant, lovely property, nice hot tubs. Not very social but that’s probably a low season thing.

I am happy with my stay at Socialtel Hostel. I like that it's in a quit area of Monteverde and we have a view over the hills. The jaccuzi was welcome with the colder temperature and the yoga space was also a good. In the room the lamp didn't work and the shower wasn't hot. Instead of fixing it they showed me another shower. I've booked tours from the hostel which was a good service. The laundry was $25 and too expensive for me. They don't provide towels; you can rent one for $10, too much again.

Très belle hostel. Un gros potentiel qui n’est peu être pas exploité à sa pleine valeur. Le personnel est accueillant. La nourriture est savoureuse et généreuse.

Great experience. Very nice place. Definitely reccomended close to cloud forest hiking trails. Very far from the town.

Really a great hostel as long as you have a car! It’s a bit outside of the main part of town, and is a little hard to find (look for The Lodge sign). The rooms were very nice, bathrooms great, and nice and cool with the mountain air. Overall pretty great!

To far from de city

The hostel was a great spot to use as a base for activities. Food in the restaurant was tasty and the cocktails were good value. The beds were comfortable and the hot tub in the afternoon was delightful. Would recommend. If you’re getting a transfer / shuttle, all drivers know the property as Selina so put this as your destination.

All good, loved the hot tub, hot showers, room, restaurant.

The kitchen had mice in it and was filthy. They have now shut this down, which makes sense. The food at the restaurant was good, but kind of expensive. The staff there were all great. Not much information was provided at check-in. For example, I didn't know where any facilities were or that I was supposed to pre-book the jacuzzi. The co-working space is $12 USD a day, which was a let down since that isn't explained anywhere and was one of the reasons I booked here. Close to the cloud forest

Me encantó! Es precioso hostel. Solo que le doy 8.5 de 10 porque la cocina comunitaria estaba asquerosa :( heces de ratón por todos lados, en los platos, sartenes…. Creo que deberían cuidar eso. No sé si es para que consumas en el restaurante pero me pareció muy desagradable. De ahí en general el hostal es hermoso

Mooi hostel, prima voor kort verblijf. Het personeel is vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De gedeelde badkamer was netjes en ruim. Het eten was niet bijzonder.
