The Great Wall Box House

I was not let into the property and was forced to walk several kilometers to the next town to find other accommodation. Very hard to find on the map.

Brilliant hostel out of Beijing in the peaceful Gubeikou and very close to The Great Wall! The staff were so accommodating and helped me to get the train there and even picked me up from the station. Very cozy vibe and comfortable and clean rooms.

Hostess was very sweet and gave out great advice on how to visit the Great Wall. She has two cute long-haired cats that live on the premises. She offers delicious breakfast and dinners, which you both have to announce beforehand that you would like to make use of. It is definetly recommended to take a taxi from the trainstation to the hostel (paid 30Y for it).

We stayed for two nights and it was fantastic! Even if the price is rather high, it's worth it to be here. From the hostel you can walk directly to the wall and if you're lucky you'll get an incredibly good dinner at the hostel - she's a very good cook!

It was an amazing place to stay near an amazing hike on the great wall that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a great wall experience the lady who runs it is so sweet the one down side is it's a bit hard to get to there but worth it

Amazing location for walking the remote parts of the Great Wall. Just note, there isn’t really anything near the hostel in terms of restaurants etc. but the hostel do provide very delicious meals but it is your only choice really. The dorm came equipped with a big heater so fine in winter. Not much atmosphere as was just me there! But I imagine in summer it is a great set up with a big lounge/dining area to stay in.

This is a great little place. Nice base from which to explore different sections of the wall that aren’t the usual spots. The hostess is a funny lady who I could never understand in any way but was always smiling and did her best to make everyone happy and comfortable. There’s a great vibe here with other travelers, sharing stories and tips as we drank tea until 2am even though the common area was freezing cold. It’s a cozy place I’d come back to. excellent hostel but difficult to cind. superb location for getting to a non touristy bit of the wall breakfast and dinner extra charge but were amazing !! highly recommend to stay here for an authentic experience

This was an incredible way to experience the Great Wall!! Hostel is beautiful, everything is so clean and Rachel is wonderful. Very close to the train station so it’s easy to get to and from Beijing. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

great hostel! owner is so sweet and helpful, it’s just a 10min walk away from the Gubeikou to Jinshanling section of the great wall. would recommend staying there two nights and doing the hike on the full day. veggie food she cooks is really good! bathrooms and rooms are super clean and really nice (heated toilet seat hahah). 6 really cats make it perfect ◡̈ first night there was only one more guest staying there so it wasn’t very social, but second night more people came which was great

Booked this place after the great reviews and exactly what I was looking for. Quiet house located in traditional village right next to the start to the Gubeikou leading into then Jinshanling Great Wall walk (7-9hrs) The host Xiao Wei is extremely nice and helpful, even helped me get a driver to get me home late at night when taxis and didi’s had stopped. If you're wondering if it's worth staying here the answer is an absolute yes. The lady there took such good care of us we felt sad leaving so early. Thank you for everything!! We will miss you and the cats deeply.

This is probably my favourite hostel I have ever stayed in :) the location is very peaceful and is excellent for access the great wall from Gubeikou, the staff are so lovely, the facilities are amazing and I would definitely reccomend getting breakfast and dinner here as it is a family style event which really adds to the chill social vibe :) 10/10!!

Wonderful hostel next to the Great Wall. The staff were amazing and offered breakfast and dinner which was amazing! I met lots of people there, if you message, they will arrange a pick up from Gubeikou station for around 10-20 yuan. Amazing hostel.

Small and very homely homestay. Amazing location, you only 5 minutes drive from gubeikou train station and you can hike straight onto the wall, along to the Jinshanling section.

This hostel has a very homely vibe!! Really enjoyed my stay here and the host Rachel was one of the nicest hosts we have had, also the meals she offered were really tasty and convenient. Great location for walking the wall. Rachel also provided us with instructions on which route to follow which was really helpful :)

Had a great couple days here. The lady in charge was wonder. Very attentive and helpful. The meals she cooked were all vegetarian, if your a meat eater don’t let put you off, they were delicious and plenty of it. About 6 different dishes per meal. The hostel itself was spotlessly clean, with great shared facilities. Our room a private double was tastefully decorated and came with air con, both hot and cold and a lovely heated floor. Atmosphere was spot on. Totally recommend this hostel.

An excellent place to stay for hiking the Great Wall. Warm comfy beds, hot showers, heated toilets, clean facilities, and the kindest staff. They provide all you need including meals and transportation to/from the train station. Would recommend to anyone wanting a unique immersive experience in the mountains away from the city.

Great place to stay in Gubeikou. The ladies picked us up at the station, then explained everything about the hike on the Great Wall. We had a dinner they prepared with the veggies from the village (vegetarian dishes only, they were really good). Showers are clean, there is soap, shampoo and conditioner, which is nice in a hostel. Nice vibes with the other people at the hostel. Big common area. There are 3 cats living there, which are very cute. Definitely recommend!

One of the best hostels that I've ever stayed at and definitely the best in china. The managers are some of the nicest and warmest women I've ever met. They definitely made me feel at home. The hostel itself is super clean and cozy and has a really social vibe. Everyone is there to hike and people do the hike together. It is also an amazing place if you want to visit the wall in a more rural area and do a more serious hike.

A great place to stay if you want to tour the Great Wall. The hosts are very nice and always ready to help. The common area has a very cozy feeling including three extremely cute and fluffy cats!!
