It was not very clean and was all quite dated. The layout of the room meant you could not use your reading light without shining on other guests. The cafe was poor and very overpriced for drinks. The water fountain gave warm water. The shower and toilet were poor.

The location is pretty nice. Right next to Whitby Abbey. There is a big garden behind the hostel with nice views of the city. I also liked walking around the well-known Cleveland Way trail which is also right near the hostel. Do be aware that you have to climb up a lot of steps to get to the hostel, so it can be a bit of a bother if you have luggage. I only had a backpack, so it was fine for me. The only disappointment with this hostel for me was the size of the beds. They were the smallest be...

very basic, room bunk beds were only for kids 2ft 6, and we are adults , so they were very uncomfortable, was no heating so the room was chilly, no towels , grubby carpet, couldn't get breakfast unless pre ordered the night before, so not ideal

Pros: Friendly and helpful staff, good location, free parking, cooking facilities, free entrance to the abbey, comfortable beds, clean Cons: Not a social hostel so not ideal for solo travelers, no lockers in dorms, very expensive drinks, outdated building

Not a lot of options in Whitby for affordable accommodation. The YHA was clean, comfortable with a great kitchen. Perfect place to rest your head if you’re exploring the area but absolutely no atmosphere. Definitely not a youth hostel vibe, more full of families. Location is stunning, but be prepared for the 199 steps. Major downside is no laundry facilities and Wi-Fi is terrible and practically Mon existent. Would stay again if travelling solo purely for price.

Wonderful and magical stay in whitby. Couple lights in the m8 dorm near the beds didnt work, and the shower floor feels weird on my feet. Just a me thing that though. Otherwise perfect

Spent an overnight with my husband & granddaughter. Private room with own toilet, shower etc. Very helpful, friendly welcome from gret haired guy on reception on arrival. Warmer than expected for such an old building. Amazing views, next to Abbey ruins. Great breakfast. Turns into cafe/bar rest of day. Lovely outside space to eat too with magnificent views. Very clean self catering kitchen. Lots to do in Whitby, also cliff walks. Brewery & bar within brief walk of hostel.

Even though I have rated the facilities outstanding, the shower head inRm M1 does require some attention prior to future visitors.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location was fantastic, right next to the Abbey and the hostel provided free entry which normally cost £11. It was such a nice place to come back to and relax. I spent some time just wondering the grounds and relaxing in the conservatory. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. It was around a 5 minute walk down the steps to the main town in Whitby.
