Las Carmelas, Airport Juan Santamaria

Overall a good hostel in a very safe area with friendly staff. One major drawback however: the hostel is infected with bed bugs. Both me and a friend that stayed there a week before me came home with an immense amount of bed bug bites and are now hoping we did not bring any home with us. Bewarned!

For just one night before my flight, it was alright. The location was close to the airport. The staff was very friendly,the accommodation itself had an uncomfortable atmosphere, the room was very stuffy and smelly and too small for the amount of beds. So for one night, waiting for an early flight, it was alright.

Facilities were basic but ok. I didn’t expect too much given the price, and we were using this place as a stop over before heading to the airport early morning which worked fine. There were some little mites/flies in the kitchen and some areas could have been cleaner, though otherwise served it’s purpose.

The place is in a quaint, safe and nice neighbourhood. The bathroom was a little dirty and our room let in a lot of light at night. But overall it was great for the location close to the airport and to rest our heads for one night. They are really easy to organize rides to and from the airport. I would definitely recommend that. It is a fair price.

Decent hostel for a 1 night stay. Just stayed here the night before I had to fly out of SJO (it is less than a 10 min drive away). The breakfast in the morning was not included, cost $6. It was good but portion was too small. I was getting bit by mosquitoes all night and it was kinda hot but still managed to sleep okay. The shower is kinda wacky.

This place absolutely serves its purpose. It’s conveniently located close to the airport I paid around 8 USD for a taxi from the airport. It’s also ideal if you’re continuing your journey the next day: you can reach the bus stop on foot in about 15 minutes and easily catch a bus towards destinations like La Fortuna.

Really lovely staff - the guy taking care of the place is really kind and sweet. The place itself could do with some renovation though as it is past its peak. My room was fine but smelt a little bit lived in. All in all I paid $51 for a late pick up from the airport, private room with shared bathroom, breakfast and drop off at the airport the following day.

Good for a one night stay comjng/going to the airport +: close to the airport, transportation from/to the airport for a price between 8 and 12$, very safe (inside a secured mini-village and doors also locked), beds confortable -: far from San José if you wish to visit the city

Good location and good private rooms for one night and a cheap shuttle to the airport. Sadly our worst and last tipico breakfast in Central America - it really needs some improvement. No restaurants locally so either eat before arriving or bring something with you.

Nice hostel for a weekend trip or overnight airport stay! Very quiet and in a good spot, located near a University.

Excelente la limpieza y la atención.

An excellent stay again. The staff are fab. We had a flight delay of 24 hours and they were very accommodating and managed to get us into a dorm so we had somewhere to lay our heads whilst we waited. Also, we were too late for breakfast, but they still made us some which was very needed. Highly recommended place to stay. Perfect if you’re just arriving into San Jose Airport or just about to leave.

Espacio muy bonito , limpio , cuenta con cocina. Y ubicado en un lugar seguro . Ideal para estadías cortas.

Very nice place to come before or after a flight, kitchen area with everything you need, our room for two was big. We went there 2 times on our trip and where not dissapointed :)

Great location, service, and place.

Staff was friendly, but I locked myself between the outer gate and the building itself when I was waiting for an uber at 4am. Could have used earlier guidance on how to leave the building and return the key and leave it all locked for everyone else. There was no staff in this building to help me out, and calling the number for the partner hostel around the corner was not answered at 4am. I had to climb over a spiky gate to leave

Die Unterkunft liegt in einer guten, ruhigen und sicheren Gegend, nahe dem Airport. Die Zimmer,Küche,Bad haben alles was man braucht und es war immer total sauber. Gab sogar gratis Seife und Shampoo. An Atmosphäre haben wir jetzt nicht soo viel gemerkt, waren aber auch nur eine Nacht nach unserer Ankunft in San José dort und sind danach gleich weiter gereist.

Nah am Flughafen. Für 1-2 Nächte top. Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich!!

Super close to the airport, it's everything you need for a one night stay. It's a gated community, which we really liked. The facilities were ok, the fish tank is definitely overdue for a cleaning. Street parking available. Overall, did the job.
