After carefully examining the other availabilities in the area, we chose Sabai Sabai Hostel because it was 1) cheap, 2) had free breakfast, and 3) no one had ever fallen off the roof and died. Following our stay, we can confirm that the good points of Sabai Sabai Hostel include that it is 1) cheap, 2) has free breakfast, and 3) no one has ever fallen off the roof and died. Unfortunately, none of the door locks worked and there were little bugs (not bedbugs) crawling on the bed.

I was not impressed with this hostel, it looks much nicer in the pictures for sure. The main area with the pool is nice but that’s about it. My bed had tiny little bugs crawling around everywhere because there was a small hole in the wall which exposed the room to mosquitoes and other insects (not bed bugs though). There was no key to the door and therefore you could not lock it and anyone could walk in. There were also no lockers to store your luggage and the room was not spacious.

The location was great, the breakfast was good, and the pool was lovely, and overall, the hostel was pretty nice but it did have some negative points as well. The showers were not very clean, and there were a lot of bugs (especially ants) inside. There was a bug squished on the wall next to my bed that looked an awful lot like a bed bug, and while I didn't find any other signs of them I did have some bites on my legs, but I can't be sure that's what it was. They also don't change the blankets.

I very rarely write reviews, but wanted to leave one for this hidden gem! PROS: 1) Clean. Unlike reviews for nearly every other hostel on HW for Luang Prabang, there were NO ants or bed bugs and minimal mosquitoes. 2) Quiet, but still a little social. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm with an en suite bathroom; I had a roommate for 1 of the nights and spent the remainder on my own. It's still moderately social; folks would chat during breakfast or while sitting by the pool, but definitely an older vibe and not a p
