Eigenaar erg aardig, goede tips over Antigua. Alleen hadden we gelezen over de optie TENT maar we zagen nergens foto’s van een tent, dus dachten wij in normale kamer te slapen. Helaas bleek dat TENT een synoniem was voor een karige bouwkeet. Door ontransparantie (geen foto’s) leek het alsof dit een manier was om reizigers een véél duurdere kamer aan te smeren, aangezien hij gelijk vroeg of we ons van de “TENT” in de titel bewust waren en of we niet nog andere (duurdere) kamers wilden ...

DONT BOOK THIS HOSTEL!!! Never met a host this aggressive and rude. He woke me up at 8am and started screaming at me for using a pillow that didnt belong to my bed. As I told him this behaviour is unaceptable (there were many other situations were he was extremely rude towards everybody in the hostel) he threw me out. My friends wanted to join me in a new hostel as they didnt want to stay there anymore aswell. He grabbed my friends bag and refused to give it back until he got his money. CRAZY!!!

The owner of Casa Gitana was extremely aggressive right when I arrived. I had just gotten off a shuttle at night, w/ no phone, & called out for help to open the door. 5 minutes later, he showed up, shouting. The next day, he was hostile when I asked for a coffee shop. I felt unsafe asking him anything afterward. The hostel’s energy was bad, my cramped room and kitchen poorly lit, and signs in all caps screamed at guests. Worst of all, he yelled at me for adjusting the shower. Avoid this place!

Can't say I would recommend this hostel. It is a bit off the beaten path and one guest was robbed while walking back one night. The operator tried to be helpful but ultimately lost his temper for no apparent reason. There are so many better options, I wouldn't stay here again even if it was free. Please do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Staff was grumpy on arrival, so the welcome wasn’t great and facilities were a bit cluttered and dirty

The owner is great but the room was not. Lots of mold in the toilet, the common area was full of debris. Not great first impression.

It was cosy and the host was nice, but kitchen facilities were not the best - I wouldn’t use it to cook food.

Auberge sympa mais cuisine un peu salle, et le gérant paraît lunatique… nous l’avons réveillé le matin à 7h en l’appelant (il est écrit réception 24/24 dans la description) et il nous a bien fait comprendre qu’on l’avait dérangé. Les messages à plusieurs endroits de l’auberge ne te font pas sentir comme à la maison (Ne faites pas comme ces égoïstes qui ont pris toute l’eau pour l’Acatenango ! …) Et la cuisine n’étais pas très propre (ce n’est pas aux clients ...

I fairly enjoyed my stay at Casa Gitana. The room was clean and it had all the basic necessities. It was a little expensive for what was provided but overall I would recommend. Location is excellent, walking distance to many restaurants and quiet at night.

Good quiet calm safe place to stay. Basic facilities. Has a hot shower if you keep the pressure down. 2 communal areas but not many people on site while i stayed. Carlos speaks great english and was incredibly helpful and welcoming. I would recommend to stay here if you need some peace and quiet. Further towards the outside of town which means less foot traffic but only a very short walk to all the necessary areas.

I stayed one night and had a great experience. Carlos was incredibly kind and helpful, he arranged my transport and even offered me a free shower, towel, and a room to rest while waiting for my late transfer. The hostel is clean, quiet at night, and respectful of travelers. There’s a shared kitchen, free tea and coffee in the morning, and a nice garden to relax. Truly warm hospitality, I’d definitely stay again. Carlos showed me a beautiful side of Guatemalan hospitality and human warmth �...

had a great time here. very close to the main city. good coffee shops. carlos was great and very informative with things to do, where to eat, etc. try the beer crawl just down the street from there for an amazing time

very nice place!! you have a towel included. and carlos is the best, you can book with him the Acatenango hike and shuttles basically from a day to another, at a very good price. everything went perfectly, i highly recommend asking that to him!

We ended up needing a last minute place to stay and this was so perfect. The owner Carlos does everything him and is so kind and helpful. He helped me find a last min reservation for volcan Acatenango and a VERY last min bus ride to San Pedro. He is extremely helpful and friendly and I can’t recommend this place enough!! Everything was clean and there was actual warm water in the shower. Not far from major places but not right in the middle to where it’s to loud. Totally recommend!!!

Although the outer areas were kept clean the hostel was in serious need of updating. Friendly helpful staff but lacking in atmospherr and good social areas to meet fellow travellers

A bit outside but better than Adra! Host was not super friendly at the beginning and not available at all via WhatsApp. But he at least remembered my name during my stay. Bathroom was clean but backyard was full of trash.

This hostel is just solid. The fellow people were nice. This was my first hostel and I waited until I visited another to give my review. I guess I got sort of spoiled here because there's a free towel and lock for your stuff, the next place didn't have those so I had to go buy that stuff. The shower was nice and warm and clean, so were the bathrooms. It's a few blocks away from the busy streets so it's quiet and relaxing here. I would return if I visit Antigua again.

The hostel is great. The location, safety, and cleanliness were all perfect. A special mention goes to the extremely friendly owner, Carlos, who was always helpful, gave us great advice, and even prepared coffee for us earliest in the morning before we Had to leave for our Acatenango-Tour. During the Tour our luggage was easily stored. 10/10

Carlos was very kind and hospitable. We stayed in the private room and it was very clean and had everything we needed. Perfect place to stay if you are looking for more of a quiet and calm atmosphere. Also, great location and Carlos can help you with any recommendations. Thank you Carlos!

The host Carlos is great and helps and supports always. I had one of the capsules which was fine.

I really enjoyed my stay at casa gitana! Carlos is a very good host who will go out of his way for his guests and make sure you have everything you need. The hostel is quiet and well positioned in the town, it’s less than a 10 minute walk to the main square and very convenient. I appreciated having a kitchen here and it being well stocked. Thanks so much :)

Fijn hostel! Heel basic maar heel veel meer heb je niet nodig. Vrijwel iedereen is daar om de volgende dag de Acatenango te doen. Carlos is een mega vriendelijke en behulpzame man die hard werkt om je zo goed en gastvrij te helpen en verwelkomen als maar kan! Rustige buurt, dus 10 minuutjes lopen naar het centrum - maar Antigua is mini dus echt prima!

Carlos was a great host! Attentive, offered to make coffee any time, I saw him cleaning or doing things around the property to maintain it every time I encountered him & he always gave a personable hello. Showers had lots of space to hold toiletries, etc & the water was warm!! I didn’t feel a social atmosphere but I wasn’t looking for one so I appreciated it. I did feel that the room I stayed in could have been a bit cheaper for what it was, but it was worth it to have a safe, quiet space.

good hostel and friendly owner. was very accommodating with airport transfer after my flight changed due to a cancellation. Met me at 1am to check in.
