Past Tense Hostel

I stayed at Past Tense Hostel after arriving from 36 straight hours of travel and 3 flights. this hostel was exactly what I needed. The owner made everything easy, allowing me to checcheck in late and to leave my valuables locked up well after the normal checkout time. The accommodations are basic but clean and comfortable. if you need a peaceful, restorative stay, past Tense is a good option.

Un très bon séjour passé ici ! L’hostel est très bien situé, c’est plutôt propre, et j’ai passé de très bons moments avec les autres voyageurs sur la terrasse !

Wir haben uns im Hostel sehr wohlgefühlt. Die Besitzerin war zwar nicht vor Ort, aber ihre Schwester war unglaublich herzlich und hilfsbereit, und die Besitzerin selbst jederzeit erreichbar. Das Hostel ist schlicht, aber gemütlich – man fühlt sich fast wie bei Oma zu Besuch. Alles Nötige war vorhanden und die Atmosphäre sehr willkommenheißend. Einziger Minuspunkt: Die Betten waren leider ziemlich hart, da die Matratzen sehr dünn sind. Trotzdem absolut empfehlenswert!

Super chill hostel, felt more like a home stay. Owner and family were so accommodating and helpful. Nice relaxing place, beds are OK but no curtains. Location is amazing. Stayed twice and would come again, thank you Past Tense

Super tolles Hostel, hab mich direkt wohlgefühlt und die Besitzerin ist auch super nett. Einrichtungen eher Retro aber in einer gemütlichen Art. Es gibt kostenloses Wasser, Tee, Kaffee. Lage direkt in der Innenstadt aber ruhig gelegen. Das einzige Manko ist das die Betten etwas hart sind.

Feels like grandma's house. Well decorated, well maintained, and thoughtful. Has the basics, and is quiet. 7eleven down the street and arms. Could use outdoor seating on first floor, bathmat to keep bathroom more tidy, waterbottle refill station.

verry hard beds, but good place overall!

Our stay here was cosy and very comfortable! We felt like at home more than at a hostel. Kibb was amazing, making sure all of our needs were met and providing all the necessary support. We'd keep constant communication via WhatsApp, which was practical and very reliable. She also booked for us one amazing elephant rescue tour and a Chiang Rai day tour, which were amazing!! We definitely recommend her. Thank you so much dear Kibb 😍❤️

One 2 bathrooms in whole place for use. Never issue for me but something to think about. Front staff worker NICEST person ever. Room was nice with balcony. G location was in center so walking distance and by cafes.

Honestly one of my favourite hostels ive ever stayed at. Kibb made us all feel so at home and was beyond helpful with every question we had. The vibe of this hostel is just so cozy. Facilities are clean and well kept. Will be coming back. 100% recommend.

Every year I come to Thailand I stay here. It’s very cozy and the owner is the sweetest and most hospitable person. Very clean, quiet and enjoyable. I can’t recommend enough😄

Wir konnten die teilweise schlechten Bewertungen nicht nachvollziehen, da wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt haben. Zwar findet der Checkin nicht persönlich statt, aber die Betreiberin ist immer erreichbar wodurch es keine Probleme gab. Die Unterkunft war sauber und hatte eine sehr schöne Terrasse. Da sich das Hostel in der Altstadt befindet konnte man alle Sehenswürdigkeiten gut zu Fuß erreichen. Wir haben das Hostel gleich ein zweites Mal gebucht als wir nochmal in der Stadt waren.

Weird vibes at this hostel, never saw anyone working. Only texted the owner and when I needed change to pay for the room she had to call someone to get it for me which seemed like a big problem. Didn’t see anyone else staying there, rooms in serious need of cleaning

Don't understand how this hostel gets such good reviews... all the other guests I met were also unhappy about there stay or even didn't want to sleep there. The common places are messy and dirty. There is no one ever there at the reception, you have to communicate to the owner via phone. The matrass of my bed was made from stone, never had such a hard bed after 3 months of travelling in thailand. I've stayed at hostels half the price that were absolutely perfect...

I really enjoyed my stay at Past Tense. It's in a nice pocket or Old Town Chiang Mai. The hostel is comfortable. It is very quiet with not many people staying which I found to be restful but it was a bit strange to see so few people. I stayed three nights and the bathrooms and rooms were cleaned every day. The cafe downstairs wasn't operating which was disappointing as it would have been nice.

We were a couple who booked a private room with private bathroom. Pros of the hostel: Very calm, well located in the old city which is convenient for tours and activities. Owner very responsive through text messages for questions or issues. Cons: There never was an employee present, all communications (including check-in) is done solely through text messages, which can be annoying. Also there was no windows in our room, and the bathroom windows had no screen so many insects in the bathroom.

It was very nice!!!! Clean and had everything i needed. Kipp the owner was very nice and very helpful. The location is nice but not the best, its in the old city but on the side thats not close to the night market, a lot of walking.

The facilities at this hostel were totally decent and clean, but it’s a really small space with a super limited area to hangout. The atmosphere was really lacking since there were no staff or other guests present during my stay. Slightly overpriced compared to other spots in Chiangmai

Location was good. Reception was empty for most of the time however the owner was very helpful and available via WhatsApp as she wasn’t at the property during our stay. Showers were in the same room as toilets and there were only 2 shared between 5 dorms. Beds weren’t so comfortable but there was a nice balcony and good air conditioning if you weren’t in the bunk underneath it.
