Great location opposite Kuan Yin Temple on Kapitan Keling, though that means quite a lot of road noise, especially for the private rooms - the dormitories are actually very quiet. Free breakfast, though starts a bit late (8.30). Staff can be a bit variable - some pleasant, others gruff and moody.
We were in the 4 bed mixed dorm and it was so incredibly small we had to put our backpacks in our beds in order to be able to get anywhere. The beds were uncomfortable and had no security in the upper beds so things kept falling down. The space overall wasn’t clean. And my friend had bedbugs in her bed and couldn’t sleep at all. When we decided to change our hostel and asked for a refund the receptionist didn’t even apologize she just told us because it was to late she couldn’t give us a...
Warning! Bed Bugs! This is the worst hostel I stayed at! I stayed at the 4 person dorm and it was so tiny there was no space for our luggage. My friend and I had to put our backpacks in our bed. And worst of all there are bedbugs. I got many stitches and the itch really bad. We did not get a refund nor did the receptionist said sorry.
It was good! Relatively clean. Not super social.
Perfect location, comfortable beds/ aircon/ clean and good smelling sheets! Good shower too ( not suffocating by the heat ) 💕 I highly recommend for the price! Thanks!!!
A little run-down and in need of renovation. But the plus side is that guests are a mix of older travelers and I had the chance to meet very interesting people.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I didn’t want to leave a review as I never have. I have stayed in almost 30 hostels before but this is by far the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at. The staff are incredibly rude! Some of the rudest people I’ve ever come across! They do not care about their guests at all! The young guy who works there should be fired, he is such a bad look for the hostel. He tells everyone off for the smallest things and makes it such a horrible environment
I needed somewhere closer to the action (i.e. the heritage area) and a little more vibe. This place's charm comes through. I'm a working nomad, and I've been very productive working from the cafe/lounge. Wifi is decent. The bed is comfortable and private enough with the curtains, plus the handy small bunk shelf for our things (with power outlet). Shower hot water is very good - and I've never previously had a shower that simultaneously blasts me with 5-6 water jets. Interesting other people.
I only stayed there for one night. The breakfast starts rather late at 8:30 so I missed it because my bus to the next place left early in the morning. The curtains at the bed were very nice, there is a plug next to the bed which is great. Not a very social hostel in my opinion.
4 bed room was very small, could barely move and had no space for our bags. There was a vent right next to my top bunk. This vent let hot air in and it meant I could hear everything (people talking loudly outside). The charging port is in a lockable cupboard which means you can’t charge and be on your phone at the same time (you couldn’t sleep with the cupboard open on your bed). Bed was comfy however it was hot and loud. Breakfast was average.
Wouldn’t stay here again. Rooms and beds were clean and fine but the bathroom wasn’t the newest. Whole hostel got a weird, dark atmosphere for me (solo female traveler). Might be fine for a night
Nice Hostel witb little breakfest kn the morning. Nice people there, not imcredible social. But still a recommendation by me!
Actually based on the reviews I expected a much worse place, but after all the beds were comfy, the wifi was good and the bathrooms okay. Nothing special, but a general hostel atmosphere. Also the breakfast breads were a good addition.
there are signs at reception sighting this was the best hostel in 2013; i suspect this was the last time it was good. the building and rooms are dilapidated and old, the bathroom is rusty and unclean. they also say the reception is 24 hours but the door is locked at 12pm and when we tried to get back in the lights were off and the person at reception was asleep. had to stand outside shouting for 20mins before they woke up and let us in. the communal area was also very strange.
This hostel has definitely seen better days. Things were literally falling apart in our room and the staircase situation is a bit of a hazard. The bathrooms only had sliding doors which did not fee very private and the showers could have been cleaned better. The breakfast was literally just toast, fruit and coffee. The mosque prayers were very loud and very early in the morning. Would not stay here again, but really enjoyed Penang
Great location across from Kwan Ying temple, around corner from little India with its vibrant food and street life. Classic chinese shop house, street level feels like cafe with round marble topped bistro tables from which t o watch the world go by. Place has not been remodeled for long time, old pictures and minimal deco give it vintage feel. Staff was helpful and always on site.
Rustic charm! Great location and just around the corner from the fabulous samosa man. Very comfortable bed. Quite limited on storage space in the dorm. Toast, fruit and tea/coffee for breakfast was a nice start to the days.
Good hostel but mostly older people staying here. Often lots of men sitting in the common area
