Very nice and personal atmosphere because of the awesome staff!! Nice and chill location with a lot of coffee places, restaurants and thrift shops around.

Top place with top staff!

I had the misfortune of dealing with very rude staff , who demanded I mop up the floor after using an overpowered faucet to wash my shirt . The spillage was minimal ,Certainly not worth demanding I mop the floor 🤭, next they will demand you sweep the floor when you walk in from the street 🤣. The Place is Riddled with Mosquitoes and the neighbourhood is very shady .The house itself is very rundown. with noisy wooden floors .

I would never stay here! The service is horrible I had to leave for family emergency and they couldn’t help, there were weird men everywhere and the beds were UNCOMFORTABLE!! And the location is FAR from everything!!! Don’t recommend!

The staff is amazing. The hostel is nice. I also enjoyed the swimming pool. The location is not so good, maybe the bed should be a bit cheaper because we are far from city center. The internet is failing all the time. The bar is good but it's difficult to find a european plug. I still highly recommend the stay in the hostel. I went there twice.

O hostel é horrivel! As fotos não é em NADA o que é a realidade! O hostel está decadente, sujo e velho!!! Além do mal cheiro! Nas fotos é tudo lindo, mas chegando lá é assuntador!!! Horrivel mesmo! Não peguem este hostel! É horroroso!

Great place to stay recommendable worth the price

The staff is unfriendly, there is locals that make the spot as halfway house. Notice levels is unbearable. Staff inconsiderate to guests sleeping and there is always locals that's coming to the property to have a party.

My private room was very noisy due to people using the bathrooms on either side, the wooden floorboards outside the room and people playing music loudly in the night in the communal areas. Also, the sheets were not particularly clean and had mould on them and neither of the lamps in the room worked. I was also told breakfast was not provided despite being told it was included when I booked. Excellent location for Groote Schuur and overall good value for money though.

Friendly, safe, reasonably priced.

I came as foreign tourist to the hostel, didn’t feel well. The most of the guest are long stay, they were very reckless and loud in the total house. The staff was okay, but not very friendly, the safe parking space made a lot of problems. The room was absolutely a mess! There were no lockers, no key to lock even the room, open rack with cloths of the long stay women. The mattress was totally worn! No chance to get a good sleep. In the bathroom was mildew! I would advise everybody against this!

An amazing place with a whole lot people with different personalities. A beautiful place.

Great place, special people. Glad we stayed here, too bad the overal atmosphere wasn't very welcoming. We were looked at from top to bottom when we would arrive in the evening by the people there. Makes you wanna go straight to bed instead of the bar. Bit still, great place, good room. Could be cleaner (the sheets) the bed was dipped in also and i don't know about the neighbourhood either

Room should atleast have their own toilets. Rooms should atleast have there own TVs. Staff were ok but never available.

In general, the hostel is good, the staff is cool. It's cool that this hostel has a place to work(office or library) but it's bad that this place is very noisy, and seems to have no rules(people come in to listen to music without earphones).

Booked for 4 nights and left after 1. Not really a travellers place currently. Kept up all night by door slamming loudly every 15 mins outside our room but what was really uncomfortable was somebody checking in late opposite us and paying a prostitute (conversation overheard) before having loud sex for 2 hours. No staff intervened but could be heard throughout the entire upstairs. Clean and the space has potential but not good enough this time I'm afraid.

This was not my first visit to the Green Elephant, i have stayed there before covid changed the game of traveling. The room i booked in the house across the street, was no longer in the package. Therefore i was upgraded to this tiny but great little appartement, completely self contained. I liked it so much, i changed my travel plans and came back for another week. Thank you team, for a lovely self contained stay. See you next time!
