  1. Confirmed Hostelworld

I can’t say good things about the room I stayed in. The mattress is pretty much on the floor and was full of bed bugs. I only slept in my bed for half a night and I’m covered by over 30 bites and am still suffering days later. They had signs talking about scheduled deep cleaning for bugs but didn’t mention bed bugs. Why book me in a room you know is infested? I also saw them on my bags so it’s been a pain getting everything cleaned correctly to avoid bringing them home. Otherwise great hostel.

  2. Confirmed Hostelworld

I have used hostel world many times and I never had this issue. My first night I was bitten by bedbugs. I informed the hostel the next day. They offered me a cream and changed my room, but I also had bedbugs on the second room. When I went to pick up my stuff to the first room, they already offered the "bedbug bed" to someone else. They didn't change the mattress or have time to clean the room (there were other 3 people sleeping there). I spent 5 nights without sleeping because of the bites.

Ok. This review is for the los patios with the pool. My room was on the same floor as reception. It was a ‘superior’ it was extremely small in comparison to the other rooms so in my view was not good value for money. Found a cockroach and they were also fumigating the mattresses due to a bed bug problem. The walls next to the bed were covered in stains and someone had clearly wiped the contents of their nose on there… The room was right next to the salsa studio and gym so very loud.

  4. Confirmed Hostelworld

second time staying here and my experience wasn’t as good as the last time. i got put in the suites building this time and i don’t like it nearly as much as the main building. found bed bugs in the beds, showers are either scalding hot or freezing cold, environment is way less social at this other building. staff was great and took the bed bugs seriously which was good. they close the shared spaces super early here.

  5. Confirmed Hostelworld

Left early after finding bed bugs in my dorm bed. Went to Masaya which was nicer and cheaper. A shame because patios is otherwise a nice spot with good amenities and social atmosphere.

  6. Confirmed Hostelworld

The location is great and lots on around the hostel. If you are looking for a party hostel it’s fine, the buildings are split up which isn’t clear and just weren’t keen on the social areas, we thought it relatively hard to meet people (we did just stay one night though). We didn’t find it particularly clean, our pillows smelt of sweat and there were bed bugs in my bed. So we ended up leaving and the staff were very good about it but over all we didn’t enjoy the experience. Also expensive.

  7. Confirmed Hostelworld

Loved my stay at Los Patios, activities were fun, staff were really helpful and the location of the hostel was fab. Didn’t have an issue with bed bugs but there were cockroaches at night in the bathroom.

  8. Confirmed Hostelworld

They have bedbugs and don’t tell you when there are some in the room or offer to clean your bed too. I was covered in bites for 2 weeks despite asking the cleaning crew why they were steam cleaning beds and if they could do mine too.

  9. Confirmed Hostelworld

The staff and vibe of the hostel was great. We had an issue with huge bed bugs in our hostel room the first night. The staff was helpful and offered to give us a different room and do our laundry for free but we don’t know if the bed bugs came with us to our next location. Location was good and day tours offered were fun. Cafe was great and so was reception. We read other reviews after we left and saw that people had similar issues with bed bugs in the month earlier.

  10. Confirmed Hostelworld

Really great activities but unfortunately I did get bed bugs here. Make sure to check your bunk before you sleep in it, I neglected to do so and suffered the consequences. Luckily the staff were helpful once we found the problem and made up for it. Great location, in a relatively safe area. Some of the bartenders were quite rude though which was unfortunate but the reception team was wonderful!

  11. Confirmed Hostelworld

TL;DR we had bedbugs, our beds were changed without our knowledge twice, leading us to return to people on our beds and our stuff having been moved. ------x----- Whilst the hostel is very social, we had a number of issues here which did not seem to reflect other reviews and the title of 'best hostel' which it loves to display. We were met with unsympathetic and borderline rude staff when we tried to flag the issues. In general the upkeep of the hostel was not great: broken plugs, broken railings (leading me to fall off the top bunk and injure myself). key issues: Firstly, we had an issue with bedbugs. My boyfriend was bitten around 20 times in one night. A few other travellers in the dorm woke up with the same bites. We felt blamed for bringing them into the hostel which was an uncomfortable experience. We also had an issue with the protocol of cleaning bedbugs. Firstly, they washed our clothes but dumped them in a bag creased. they also couldn't locate my towel in the process. The next night, when I was about to sleep I found a bedbug in my bed which I had to sleep in. Clearly their cleaning protocols are not great as there were still bedbugs even after they 'vaporised' the room. The biggest issue we found with the hostel was the issue with our beds. We had a booking for 4 days and my boyfriend was allocated a bed in a dorm, being told he would stay there for the whole visit. However, after the second night, he returned to open the curtain of his bed and found a sleeping naked woman in it. We also checked the locker and her stuff had been placed in it, where he is confident he had left stuff. The locker has since been cleared so we are not sure what has been taken. Luckily the receptionist who was trying to leave said my boyfriend could sleep in bed 5 which was not his. However, when he returned the next day to the room to check if any stuff had been taken from locker 6, he found a man unpacked all over bed 5, where he had slept that night and left all of his things. He still had items in the new locker and luckily we spotted an unlabelled black bag in reception that had some of the items from the bed - I don’t appreciate our items being touched without our permission especially if they are expensive electronics. We are currently evaluating what has been taken and will get back to the hostel with a full detail. We are upset that this has happened twice - they let people move into our beds without telling us. To sort these issues, i had to re explain the situation to countless people, who got increasingly rude and made us feel bad for coming to them with problems. they blamed the issues on new staff and kept saying that they hope we leave here happy without helping. However, there were some highlights. The man who served me coffee everyday was lovely. Luckily, as we were leaving the hostel they finally let us speak to the manager, who was very helpful and was one of the only staff members we felt like cared about the situation. We were offered a 50% refund for our troubles, which we see as about fair. However, if you are looking for a hassle-free stay in Medellin, there are other hostels nearby which we've heard are better.

Beware: bedbugs!! Not only did they book me at “a different property” with no activities, they also have multiple cases of current bedbugs. I was not the only one who woke up with extremely itchy bites all over my arms and legs. Upon further inspection, the bunk I was assigned to is infested with bed bugs. No refund was given! I would never stay here again. Dishonest business practices and overall I felt ripped off. There are much better places to stay in Medellín. Beware of these crook
