Staff was unorganized. When I arrived they said hostel world and booking were not accurate, they had no rooms available. be aware when you go, you might get turned away. also they will charge you to use their kitchen, I've never experienced this before.
We had a couple of great rest days at Kulenga Village. The staff is friendly, Gift was especially helpful during our time there, answering any questions and requests we had. The food is good, especially the wood fired pizza. The property is not on the beach but it a short walk away. Would definitely recommend.
Quiet place not to far away from the ferry station. I visited during rainy season and there were no other guests but the staff made me feel very welcome and helped me to organise a minibus to Blantyre that even picked me up at the hostel. There is a very nice garden with a lot if places in the shade. The beach is a 5-10min walk away and goes trough the local village.
Such a nice place to stay at. The staff is very nice and make amazing food! The room is clean and authentic and Kulenga Village is a nice little walk from the main road.
Nice location but fairly basic - pictures are honest Food served was nice and good value Host was nice Shower was pretty non existent hardly more then a dribble and the sink had no water at all . Fair value for the money but if staying more then 1 night shower could be an issue . Outdoor area bar , painting studio was really nice
Kulenga Village is a great place to stay in Monkey Bay! The food is good, and the bar is a nice place to hangout at. George is super kind and is quickly to help with anything you need. I think the atmosphere will be great when it gains popularity
It’s new and the owner George is so helpful and friendly his vision for the place is awesome! Only advice is to get directions before you go as being new the locals don’t always know how to get there. Also, awesome hammock is about to be set up which looks so comfortable!! The private rooms are traditional village huts and feels very authentically Africa. The food is the best I had in Africa!
Kulenga Village was amazing! The food was the best we'd had in Malawi, thanks to chef Chanda. And barman Gift kept the drinks and good times flowing. On our last night, George, the hospitable, warm and welcoming owner, whipped out his guitar and sang for us round the bonfire and into the clear starry night. This place is still so new, many of the locals don't know it by name or location just yet so be sure to have an address or google map direction to get there. 12/10! Loved our stay!
