Shalom Backpackers Rishikesh

Located down a steep side road, that taxis can't get to. It's really important you walk from the top (not bottom: which takes ages, and is where google maps will take you). It is a shame the hostel does not communicate this before you arrive - especially for those with suitcases. If you are arriving in January expect your room to be freezing. There is no heating options (and we stayed in a Delux Private). Great views of River. Room is old and tired and news some renovation. Staff were pleasant.

I've stayed here before, so the fact that I chose to come back is a positive in itself, staff are lovely location overlooking the Ganges is very special, food on site is delicious and lots of help and advice from the super staff, would recommend and would come back again 😊

location is amazing, however with Laxman jhula closed, going to the other side is a challenge. about the room, the bathroom smelt quite a lot from start. the window was closed so there was no way for air circulation. also the water dispenser is only at the reception, making one to climb two floors to fill the water bottle.

Wonderful common amenities with great views of Ganga, lovely staff that's highly caring and ever ready to serve you with a smile on their face with a special mention of Ayush, Anooz, and Abhishek. Enjoyed the stay here.

Good value for money and great location

Great location and staff was friendly, but the rooms were very dirty and the smell coming from the bathroom our entire stay was terrible, even when we switched rooms.

Das Personal war super freundlich und hilfsbereit. Generell war die Stimmung im Hostel sehr gut und das Essen lecker. Die Einrichtung in unserem 4-Bett-Zimmer sah nicht wirklich aus wie im Internet, aber wir haben trotzdem gut geschlafen.

Standard rooms are too compact. Shalom Mussoorie had much better services and rooms than Rishikesh.

power out for entire nights at a time, asked for towels 6x and never received

The location was good but there was an electricity problem and the hostel doesn't have power back up. Everything goes off when the electricity is gone. Also, there was no wifi signal inside the room.

Me quedé en dormitorio de 4 camas, era bastante pequeño y no había espacio para dejar el equipaje, tampoco es posible cerrar la puerta del dormitorio y la que me tocó estaba al lado de recepción por lo que es inseguro (aunque no tuve problemas).

bad dorms, not value for money

Cool building in good location but well past it's glory days. My room was at the bottom next to the run down communal garden & (drained) swimming pool, and the big iron bedroom door swings ajar naturally leaving you exposed to mosquitos & sound of other guests (it's possible to deadbolt the door from the inside, but that would have locked out others staying in room & meant waking up to let them in). Positives are that room has great bed, ac & personal fan.

We booked this place because of its location and facilities as described on website. The location was good, the room was well laid out, but that was about it for good comments. The private room had a really overwhelming sewage smell in the bathroom which was so strong it could be smelt in the bedroom. There was construction going on, resulting in a much worse view of the Ganges and the pool was drained, despite the nice weather. Service was pretty terrible too - we often went to reception o...

The property was great and the environment was also good. Mr Praveen or shiva was with us the entire time. Made our trip memorable.
