L'escale Surf Hostel Guéthary

Lovely hostel great people, waves and fun town definitely recommend!

L’escale did not disappoint yet again This is my second visit and certainly not my last Breakfast was fabulous with a varied selection to suit everyone, the malonga coffee kick started the day Staff were fantastic, big shout to Lotta for everything.. The 4 bed dorm was clean and very comfortable, showers were always clean and provided ample hot water at all times… Ella keep doing what your doing L’escale is Perfect Look forward to seeing you all in 2026 Many Thanks Jody

Meilleur hostel dans lequel je suis restée à vie! Super endroit et les gens sont super gentils. Très propre aussi, la cuisine est impeccable.

j’ai adoré mon séjour à L’escale Hostel. les chambres sont petits mais propres, la cuisine est bien équipée, l’emplacement est parfait. les gens sont très agréables. j’aimerais revenir un jour.

I had an excellent experience! The hostel is great, and the vibe of the guests and volunteers made all the difference. Now, for anyone thinking it's in Biarritz, it's actually a bit farther, but it's close to a bus stop that goes directly there. I definitely recommend it!

What a beautiful hostel. The atmosphere is so friendly & welcoming - you feel at home right away! The common area just invites to chill, socialize and make new friends & great memories. Also it is super clean! You can easily rent surfboards or discounted surf classes at the hostel. The only thing missing would be either ac or a fan in the dorm since it was still super hot at night in the room. Also a little shelf by the bed with an outlet would be quite handy. Highly recommend! Wish I could have stayed for longer. A true home away from home, with everything you could possibly need and provided by the loveliest, coolest volunteers. Kitchen is great, outside area is perfect for relaxing, meeting other guests. Breakfast is yummy! So many added little touches to make the stay extra comfortable and extra enjoyable. Will def be back - see you guys soon!

I really enjoyed my stay. Guéthary has unexpectedly become my favorite place in France. The staff is very friendly, the hostel is extremely clean, the location is amazing and it’s such a chill atmosphere. Perfect for a relaxing feel-good getaway.

This was absolute heaven From Arriving to Departure Decided to stay an extra night Ella and her staff are amazing Dorm cosy and very comfortable Kitchen facilities were the best I’ve ever seen Bluetooth Speaker had unbelievable sound quality Veranda was an added bonus in the evening Already planning a further visit to this fabulous amazing hostel in this beautiful part of France

Unfortunately I only stayed for one night, but the Hostel is really cute, clean and everyone was so nice. Breakfast was also great. The only thing was that the Blankets are to thin for a cold night, but I’ll definitely come back!

Magical place! Met absolutely amazing people, that felt like a family. It gives you a feeling like you're on a trip with your friends :) Super close to the ocean, hostel was kept very clean, and the staff is wonderful. Also, the vegan cakes baked in the afternoon were the extra highlight of the day! The only thing that can be improved in my opinion are blankets - very itchy to the skin, and not that warm when the night is colder. Beside this - everything was perfect! Probably the coziest and cleanest hostel we’ve ever stayed at! Great vibes, nice volunteers and close to several beaches.

Guethary is a gem of the Basque coast and so is L’Escale hostel. Ella and her lovely staff make you feel like home. I particularly liked the kitchen, it’s very well equipped and clean. I do feel that the 6-dorm room is really small, as there is barely any room for luggages. However, this makes you spend more of your time in the common areas, which are absolutely great. As well, the hostel is only 30 min away from Biarritz. I def. recommend to stay here and I would def. come by again myself ...

Im so happy I added this hostel to my travel itinerary! I have no bad thoughts of this place. The staff immediately made me feel so welcome and at home. While I stayed the weather was not great but still loved Guethary because of this hostel. The room was clean, the common space was cozy, the kitchen was well stocked and had a really nice atmosphere. All the guests seemed happy overall. Thanks again to Ella, Ellise, Miriam and Annelie for an amazing time and the fresh baked treats!
