The Birdhouse

An excellent hostel which I would recommend to anyone. Gorgeous setting, lovely like minded people and Dipthi who was volunteering was an absolute star. They were great at communicating over instagram and extremely helpful in arranging cabs, rickshaws & switching the dates of our stay. The private room was very comfortable with a warm shower - it could have been more powerful but other than that it was ideal.

Everything we love about a hostel! Dipthi made us so welcome from the minute we arrived, she's very sweet. The room was lovely, it's such a friendly and social place, they made a campfire for us, the meals were delicious, we learned new card games. And there's some great walks nearby through the tea plantations with interesting wildlife. A 20 minute walk into upper Coonoor for restaurants, gym, launderette etc. would definitely visit here again, they're like a family!

the property is nicely on the outer part slightly above coonoor in a quite place. the entrance welcomes you with a nice bloomy smell and holds you comfy in the garden (if the sun shines) or the common rooms engaged. the vibe is artistic and open, spend time alone or play cards and have conversations with the roomies. go for some hike while your around, don't miss the beautiful nature in this area :)

Lovely staff - location is right on the outskirts of Coonoor - fairly peaceful area. Birdhouse is a great stay if you're planning a 3 day trip to explore Coonoor and nearby areas. One key issue you could face is traveling to areas nearby - but the hosts help you book tuk tuks.

Really nice hostel to stay at in Coonoor. The location is perfect, away from the hustle of the main area. The garden is lovely to spend time in, and the homecooked meals on offer are delicious. The volunteer staff were wonderful as well! Only thing that can be improved is soap and sufficient toilet paper should be offered in every bathroom. This wasn't the case.

It was a 10 on 10 hostel, the location, the host, the cleanliness, and everything. Must go.

The property is tucked away in a neat little space in the middle of the town. It is a beautiful, clean, and quirky space. The stay felt very homely. I felt the bathrooms aren't equipped to be vacated quickly. One night, the guests and the volunteer came back inebriated and refused to be quiet during the quiet time. Food availability can be an issue sometimes, but I did get delayed breakfast. Auto driver contacts are available on request. Overall, I'll still recommend this for a quiet staycation.

Pretty amazing view from hostel, very affordable for stay and food. And the overall vibe is a peaceful one with some fun in the night by the time the bonfire starts. It really is one of the best hostels when it comes to cleanliness from what I’ve seen.

What a gem of a place! A hostel is what makes a place, and this is definitely the case in Coonoor. You'd be a fool to miss out staying at Birdhouse Hostel. Ashwini, the volunteer was full of energy and really welcomed everyone staying there. I planned to stay for 1 day but extended to 3.

This hostel is a favorite of mine. Ooty and birdhouse are so serene and peaceful. I spent hours sitting in the garden reading. You are close to beautiful walks in the tea fields as well as walking to town.

Nice hostel. The building is a bit noisy, lots of echoing through it. The beds are very close to each other. A small curtain would definitely be an improvement to give some sense of privacy. Very kind staff who will do anything for you. There was also a mother cat and kitten, which I loved. The shower knobs are broken, please fix.

The Birdhouse Hostel is a really peaceful place where you can only have nice times. They will guide you if needed in your trip in Coonoor. Would come back to this beautiful place with great view on sunset and city. Thank you.
